Legendary League sPVP reward progression
When did this trend start… to only play for special rewards?
In the past, this kind of mentality at least was confined to PvE grinders. But PvP? I play PvP because I want to win, want to improve, want to play the game.
Reward tracks and some silver at the end are just a bonus and make it for me easier to join on some PvE content. Thats it.

When did this trend start, to play only for playing? PVP in every game always was about prestige and showing off.
Many people aren’t satisfied for playing in the sake of playing:

That’s simple – wgen the wings arived!
There are experiments with children – i love experiments with human offspring – they where told to draw, those that knew if i draw one picture – i get a reward (sweets) stopped after they made the first picture (curent system) but those that got no reward keept drawing because they enjoyed the drawing, and those who didn’t know about a reward and got one as suprise, they drew even more and had fun bevause of that (i doput that wirks with the internet and communication – but random drops (eg after each game you won) could be equalent – but if it is always green stuff, it won’t work as well
Therefore the reward system (or absense of it) decides why 80% of the players play (subconcipnes is a great thing for manipulating humans)

TL;DR: if you don’t get anything in return for doing something, you won’t try to do it in the best way you can. You will do it for doing it = low skill and low effort environment.
Regon that would be the people in unranked and in low rangs on previous ranked – those who still do their best (because they like doing it) would be in higher ranks
However there would be less and result in higher q for those – but is it better getting some inthe same ranks just because of rewards that stop after they reached their goal? Or worse, try achiefments they shouldn’t do (eg a good legendary necro tries the 10 wins achiefment with a thief – he can onlyplayon ruby level or below)

? Is that english? Are you saying lower division people might be unhappy, that only Legendary division people will get bonus rewards for being good? Well duh, only the best should get the best rewards.
And unranked aren’t playing for a reward, so what is the problem. I am suggesting to add this reward progression on top of current rewards from pvp.
Didn’t understand the rest of your comment.
No, none of this stuff.
Players should get an amount of rewards consistent with their time and effort, but they should not get special snowflake rewards just for doing the type of content they enjoy. If you want to be in Legendary, be in Legendary. If you don’t want to be in Legendary, don’t. Nobody else cares either way, nor should they.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”

Honestly, if most games are very onesided and the queue times are ridiculously long then just playing for the sake for playing becomes much less attractive. I think more people would play if they got reasonably short queue times and competitive games. However it seems like the population simply can’t sustain it.
I also don’t think putting more shinies on display will tempt more people to play.
Do we really want to encourage more PvE bads to play PvP? I know Anet wants them, but if they just made PvP actually good, then the game will naturally attract more PvPers. But adding rewards that are only obtainable through PvP will attract greedy PvEers.
I bet if Anet made the Legendary wings obtainable through PvE as well as PvP, the experience of leagues would be better.
Although, if there was a PvP only reward that was only useful for PvP, that would be pretty amazing. No idea what that would be though…
Always expecting rewards is a really unhealthy mentality – in rl.
Always expecting rewards for playing a game… thats even worse, tbh.
The problem is NOT missing rewards. There’s enough rewards already in pvp. If you want more rewards, play tournaments.
The problem is, and always has been, that with the introduction of legendary pvp backpiece, there’s two kinds of players queueing for pvp.
Those that only want the title/achievements/backpiece.
And those that enjoy pvp itself.
These two groups got mixed with the season rewards, and thats what is actually destroying pvp. These two groups are absolutely NOT compatible. Its like mixing RPG-fans with egoshooter fans. Two totally different mentalities.
There is ZERO common ground between those two groups. Not even winning. Grinders dont care if they dont win every match. PvPers absolutely DETEST loosing.
So what you get is an absolutely toxic environment, in which BOTH sides loose any interest in playing the gamemode after reaching legendary. And those few that are resistant enough, they quit because playerpool is too small.
No more extra rewards…. they are the SOURCE of the current problems, they are not the solution. You dont give a child thats already sick because of eating too much candy even more candy.

What? Whaaaaaat?
Efforts, skills, hard work should always pay off and it does in real life. What are you talking about?
So, you are saying there is two type of people playing:
1) those who play to get a reward
and
2) those who play to be playing
Now, you somehow deducted that second group detest losing. What? Losing is part of playing, so how can you say they enjoy playing for playing, if they detest big part of said playing? Mental gymnastics right there.
Both of these people play to win. No one is playing to see if they lose or not. With common goal in mind, there is no significant difference between these people.
“BOTH sides loose any interest in playing the gamemode after reaching legendary” i suggest introducing bonus rewards for playing in legendary to keep people interested and you are appose to that. Don’t see the irony?
And if getting something for being good is bad, then what is good? Please, give suggestions.

Efforts? Hard work? Ranked pvp? Are you serious?
Ranked pvp is not eSports. Tournaments are eSports. Go play tournaments for your rewards. But dont expect tournament rewards in ranked pvp. This is hilarious.

Not really what I wrote, nope. Maybe you should put all that hard work into getting some reading skills, just a friendly suggestion
P.S.: You are already getting something. Think about it.

So, you shouldn’t try as hard as you can to win in ranked? Well, looks like you said the truth about existance of toxic people.

Yes, you said just that. Some people areplaying for reward, other are playing to play. Mayby you put some hard work into making decent points? Oh wait, you only try hard when you are in tournamets. Sorry.

Yasi does have a point. I don’t get rewards, nor do I expect rewards for playing Smash Bros or Mario Kart, but I always play my best to try and win. The satisfaction of playing and winning is good.

This is about motivation to play good. People wouldn’t make posts like “i am legendary i don’t care”, if there weren’t problems with current system. Many people reach legendary, get trophy and them stop playing or play without trying. This is why there is long queue times and people aren’t very satisfied with pvp – low motivation to the the very best.
While extra rewards might not solve it, giving no rewards will certainly not solve it.

This sounds more like a issue with the game itself and people not finding it fun. Wouldn’t it be better to ask for the gameplay to be improved, rather than trying to cover up the problems with shinies as an “incentive” to play?
Unfortunately GW2 has breeded a “reward for doing anything” mindset, so they can’t go back now. So in that regard, I do think they need to keep adding rewards to keep people playing, because they’ve conditioned the playerbase into expecting rewards.
I wrote “And those that enjoy pvp itself”. I did NOT write “those who play to play”, that was YOUR interpretation.
And of course so many people stop playing on reaching legendary, thats because they only play pvp for the rewards. They only started playing pvp for the rewards/achievements.
They will ALWAYS stop, as soon as there’s nothing worthwhile anymore.
And look at the rewards you posted there…. the value is definitely increased… and anet would have to go, increasing the value each time, each season. To keep it “worthwhile” for the reward/achievement hunters to keep on playing.
As soon as they have everything, they would stop… and start making posts here or on reddit, how there need to be more rewards.
Whereas someone interested in pvp for the sake of the competitiveness, for the sake of winning… they will continue to play for only a spot in the high regions of the ladder.
The solution is MIDDLEGROUND. Not catering to ONE side only.
Rewards are already there. Rewardtracks are enough rewards for playing pvp. There is no need to introduce tournament level rewards to ranked. This would only make it more difficult for players to hold those tournaments, since the rewards would always look cheap compared to “legendary rewards”.
However, what is sadly lacking… is “creds”.
Each season should have its own homepage, with detailed statistics on the first 100 (or even 1000) players in the ladder. How often they die per match, how many kills, how much damage, how much healing, how many captures, how many beasts, favourite map, etc.
The top 10 should be able to represent themselves on that homepage, with a small text… a bit of advertising for their twitch/youtube accounts.
I’m with Yasi on this one. Many of the people complaining about the current system are those who only ever got into pvp for a shot at the wings. Stop dangling that carrot over their head and you can safely work on improving the leagues without fear of making it harder- and thus inciting a forum riot- for those who are only there for rewards.
Now, I agree that there should be some reward for those at the top tier of pvp, but I think it should be something non-exclusive so that players don’t feel forced to jump into pvp for that rare skin they want- and in a drought of new skins as there’s been of late this problem would be all the worse. Maybe a large amount of gold, allowing legendary players to go out and buy the legendaries and other expensive skins they ordinarily might not have the time or money to get through PvE.
Then for prestige you can make it harder to get into legend, make the little badge over your head a real mark of pride and effort. Titles, too, and as Yasi described a more prominent leaderboard sort of thing.
Giving reward only to Legendary players is bad.
Rewards should not be tied to skill. Doing so, give us the mess we have actually.
I better get MEDALS to show my Skills than skin that can get grind at the end of the grinding divisions process.
Skill should be rewards with STATS.
Skin should be rewards with GRIND.
Everybody should be able to GRIND them.
Never forget that your mid-tier hardcore player base that are not TOP 100 of your player base, are the majority of your customers queuing in your game.

Hmmm when i was a kid i played soccer because i liked it and wanted to get better at it. There was no expectation of returns. In no way was it a low skill/low effort environment. When i entered a competition/tournament there was a trophy BUT only ONE team got to win it. Not everyone got a trophy just for showing up and grinding games.

Literally none of this matters if MM is not fixed. I’m 1v2ing people as a carrion greataxe build and losing because my team can’t compete.
