Rampage Wilson – Charr Engineer
Sea of Sorrows
I’ve got about 700 hours in-game so far, and I’ve completed almost every path in every dungeon in PvE. I have full exotics and I’m far into getting my Legendary. I’m in a WvW guild on a t1 server and I’m out there every day.
But, I haven’t played PvP much at all since beta. Why? I can’t play with friends easily.
I have two options:
1.) Have my friends and I join random tournaments
2.) Have my friends and I join pick-up matches
Tournaments: I’m a skilled player, but coordinated 5v5 isn’t about my own skill, it’s about coordination for builds and tactics between a 5 man team. I just want to get used to sPvP in general and playing with certain people before I’m thrown into coordinated matches and get rolled.
Pick-Up Matches: If I join these, the chances are I get separated from friends constantly. If they’re on my team, I also can’t see their blue icon and easily fight along side them like in beta.
Overall it’s just a needlessly frustrating experience.
Work on this, and sPvP will never die. As it is now, it’s mostly a separate game that you either go deep into, or dabble every once in a while out of boredom.
If they increase the incentive for better or pro players to play paid tournaments, free tournaments would work as intended, and be better suited for you. Making it that easy to party up in normal sPvP would make it terrible, because newer players are already struggling there, and adding mid-level skill pre-mades to it would just add to that problem.
For spvp to have team joins is just a no-brainer.
I want to play with others even casually, not just with my guild and not get separated from them when the map changes.

No then vent teams would abuse and farm random spvp solos just like what is happening in Tpvp free join.
They need rated tpvp matches based on rank and joining as a group. Solos would start against other solos of close rank. Groups would face other groups of close rank, or higher rank solos would face lower rank groups. Anything is better then just a random farm fest.
1.) /m and say you are looking for more in the heart of the mists with your friend. Have the players join you on voice chat and you will have success in free tournaments. I won or came in second place in quite a few tournaments doing this over the weekend.
2.) Unfortunately it is no different than playing most FPS games. You can join the same server and when the teams are off balance you can switch teams. If there are just two of you than it doesn’t take much time for one of you to be able to join the other team, open the scoreboard occasionally and look for your opportunity. When I go in with one friend it is usually within one match that we can get onto the same team and we will often be able play together for quite a while before getting separated.
Not disagreeing with your reasoning I wish there were better methods of playing with your friends but implementing it will either lead to “ques” or unbalanced matches.
