Even if the QP system isn’t ideal for gauging player skill, how else are you going to judge who’s qualified to give advice about paid tournaments at this stage? There are probably plenty of highly-skilled players out there who have never or rarely set foot into paid tournaments for one reason or another, but just because they’re skilled doesn’t mean you want them teaching other players about something they aren’t familiar with. If you have enough QP to be on the ladder, it means you’ve been through enough paids to have some idea of what you’re talking about. The QP ladder is a poor system for ranking because it mostly rewards time commitment and the success of a team above the skill of the individual, but it’s still a decent measure of experience in paids.

That said, I think this is an awesome idea for reviving some interest in PvP, and once it picks up some steam, I’d also encourage advertising this service in the PvP lobbies, so more people will become aware of its existence. I’d definitely recommend coming up with some sort of name for the project, and perhaps making a guild that helpers can represent so they’re recognizable in-game when they’re taking questions. Wonderful as it is, this idea can’t help PvP if most people aren’t aware of it, so good publicity is going to be critical to its success.

This is pretty cool. I wonder if you guys would be willing to extend this post to the wvw forums? I know some of you do both, and even if all you do is spvp, class knowledge and matchups is fairly universal, even if strategy isn’t.

How would you like to go about this? I think the best way to be honest is to just make a new thread on the WvW forums. I don’t really WvW that much, but to me it seems like the most important aspect is the overall strategy.

Our guildleader shares all our builds on gw2build.com. We are trying to keep them up to date. Most builds are based/copied from teams that are in Top EU/NA (People who are already helping here!). First thing first, a good build to start with!
All the builds with [AxE] Profession/Team are made by us. So maybe it can be of some help.

(Btw, we don’t take credit for the copied builds. We just use the site as a archive & to share with guildies/others)

Feel free to add me up as a necromancer to everything (EU) but paids, since I’m not on the boards/haven’t done THAT many. I’ve only just reached the rank 35-40 gap due to uni, but I think I’d be experienced enough to help.

It’d be a major help if Anet finally got around to implementing a copy-link option , because I can imagine many players (bar for the most interested ones) just don’t bother typing out a long link , or looking for it on the forums.
Anyhow, I wholeheartedly support the idea of giving this initiative a special name, so that a simple search in Google would at leats yield instant results, as opposed to the bigger endeavor by manually searching through the forum threads/sections. Perhaps something among the lines of ‘the GW2 P4P project/initiative’ (P4P standing for ‘players for players’).

As you are probably aware, people also tend to go inactive for this or other reason(s), and end up losing their rank because they haven’t kept up with the constant farm (or grind, if you will) that is tpvp. That most definitely does not make them bad (that is, at least, how I read the ‘not doing well on tournaments’ part), or unqualified, it just makes them out of touch with the FoTM build (ab)uses, and possibly rusty, neither of which equal ‘bad’.
I recommend you reword that paragraph for accuracy, because it is bringing down the overall good impression this thread makes.

Indeed, elitist is not quite the right word here. It’s mere logical fallacy (more generally known as ‘diputs’ when read backwards).

Having said that, a good thread overall. Especially for those actually still interested in the dying abomination that is GW2 pvp.

I will not do hotjoins except dueling, and i have never liked the zerg fest at all.
I have over 1.8k tournaments on Warrior, and over 800 tournaments on Mesmer.

I’d like to suggest you that this gw2 official forums are very wierdo for me and sometime is hard to find “good” informations. Specialy for a new player.
We could develop a completly friendly to use website for this kind of “growing gw2 pvp community”.

Anyway, i will not help with scripting, programing or anything related to it, if you need hosting and advices, i can help you out. My time is very limited and work is taking over me again looks like.

I’ve noticed a good increase in the amount of whispers I get asking for advice. Hopefully it’s been this way for others!

When should I be asking for help?

How do I utilize all the CC in your guardian build?
I see you dodging nothing sometimes, what’s the deal with that?
When are the best times to use my shouts?
Is it worth it to learn other classes?
I play a warrior and have trouble against guardians, can you give me some tips?

Overall Strategy:
My team composition is X, should we play for 2 points or 3 points?
My team composition is X, should we keep Y class, or should we pick up Z class?
When we do X strategy they do Y strategy. What beats Y strategy?

Put me on for Ranger and Engineer under EU 1v1 and Free Tournaments. Ill also assist with Overall strategy for frees as well.

As a side note I’d go on paids but I dont match the QP requirement, which in all honesty I dont agree with. There are plenty of great players not on that list (I know a few people that could vouch for me), and IMO a lot of bad players are on it as well. Not trying to start a witch hunt here, just saying that that may not be the best policy.

Hey, while it certainly doesn’t hurt to ask players on this list if you can play with them, I don’t think you’ll find much success with people to play paids with you on this list.

It might be a good idea to not just post on these threads, but actively send messages to people on the threads, too.

You need to find a consistant team to play with.
the WORST teams you run into in paids are typically better than the best teams you will see in most frees.

If you arent winning 90% of your free tournies with your team, youll probably get farmed in paids. The skill gaps is enourmous.

however, sometimes in paids the first round isnt so bad if u run into another put togteher team.
