How can we call PVP fair if several Amulets, Sigils, and Runes are locked behind a gold wall (and not a trivial one for most players)? This means people who may not have gold to spare to unlock them are at a disadvantage vs those who do. Anything that one person has, for any reason, that another does not has the potential to tilt the game in their favor. Either everything is available to everyone and it is fair (if not balanced), or some things are not available and PVP becomes unfair and possibly pay (in-game currency) to win.

I have 900 or so gold piece.

I have 11 character slots.

I pay my gem with gold.

I only do spvp.

Some track rewards pay more than others.

After a couple of games, you could salvage/sell the right stuff to buy those things.

People pay solid gold for materials in these games for Legendaries Weapon/Armor.

Dal Aï Lhama (Tempest), Dal Lahu Akbar (DH), Lord Dhal of Dharma (Scrapper) 12k+ spvp games.

completing 3 dailies gives you 2G, so the most expensive items (ammy’s at 10G) would require 5 days of logging in, doing 3 dailies (on a dialy server if you’re strapped for time) and then log off, 20 minutes a day for 5 days and you can have the amulet you want unlocked…

yep that seems like a hard slog, and also ignores the reqard track progress, and other gold you may acquire through playing the game…

you do not need to unlock every amulet, sigil & rune. most of them are likely useless for the builds you may want to play.

hell i haven’t bothered to unlock most of them.

This is not the point. The fact that these game effecting unlocks exist at all is an issue. It doesn’t matter how hard or easy they are to unlock. People playing other modes will use their gold elsewhere and thus be at a disadvantage in PVP. This disproportionately effects new and returning players (who don’t have 900 gold in the bank and may not have gems) and those who don’t PVP much.

For example, after the recent removal of Cleric’s, Magi’s has become the amulet of choice for Elementalists… an amulet locked behind a 10G paywall. So those who either don’t want to or can’t afford to get this are at a disadvantage to those who can. AKA, the mode is made unfair by these.

Also, quite frankly, what is the purpose of these lockouts in the first place?

Paywall is not a problem for me, i am getting a lot of gold through just playing pvp and doing other stuff, but i understand if someone who is looking on every class can get frustrated if he wants to unlock all restricted items.

Just because you need to pay for it doesn’t always make it better than what’s available. Look at Mist Champions(speaking of which, I’d love to see some new ones), Nika, Grymm and Tybalt cost 15g to unlock the reward track to unlock them. Turai is free, the default champion you have, having used all 4 I’d say he’s the best. Very defensive, decent damage, reasonably fast.

Why stop here?!? Why aren’t pvp’rs asking “why am I not allowed to do high level fractals because ascended armor and agony resistance is time/gold gated?!?” /s

It honestly isn’t that bad as others stated above, just play the game and within a few days you can unlock quite a few pieces from dailies/reward tracks. This is a very poor excuse for something being pay to win – there’s no credit card necessary to unlock things, just play the game. There are quite a few other games that truly are pay to win and gw2 sure isn’t one.

Completing your pvp dailies (20-40 minutes plus whatever queue time) gives you 2 gold.

Every match played gives 15 silver.

Depending on win rate and reward track, expect to get an additional 5-7 silver in mats or other sundries from the reward track progress.

sPvP gives decent money. Not quite as high as, say, map-hopping meta events in AB/SW/Bloodstone Fen, but decent money nonetheless. I average about 2 gold an hour in unranked just from reward track and the 15s match payout. 3 hours of play including your daily will buy most of the paywalled items in PvP, and you only have to do it once per account.

It’s a total nonissue.

None of the amulets that are paywalled are significantly better than non-paywalled alternatives. This is true for all class and spec combos. You’re looking at a less-than-1% difference in theoretical performance.

Since you’re complaining about mainly PvE players being locked out of them, it’s a nonissue as the ONLY people who would even be able to notice, much less take advantage, of the difference are ESL-tier PVP players.
