im trying to learn engi/war/ele one of the 3
Hmm.
I’ll try to think of people I could have you contact.
Also, try out these 3 profs, and pick the one you like most. they’re all good, and it helps in narrowing down choices.
im thinking the ele with dual daggers i like the play style
i really appreciate it
hey guys. im looking to get more into spvp in guild wars swapped over to this game from wow a little bit ago and im looking for someone that is good and experienced in spvp to help me better understand the game and to become better at spvp. if your interested leave a comment please.
I can help you. Add me ingame, I run guilds for teaching people. I currently have 2 Warrior toons up.
/15charrs ? is that the person that you want me to message? and i added you in game
No, I’m just one of the few (or probably only) players on these forums that takes a hands on approach to aiding people.
/15charrs ? is that the person that you want me to message? and i added you in game
/15chars is just the usual way of filling 15 characters requirement on short posts.

Again with the “credibility” nonsense, eh? Seriously? lmao.
Allow me to quote myself from another thread – “You can question my credibility all you want but what you can’t do is refute any of the points I’ve made.”
Here, go and challenge the points I made (in reply to one of your posts) in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/OP-Thief-in-water/first#post2251756
If your opinions are more “credible” than mine then prove it…
… or is attacking the person and not the argument all you can do?
And back to what I said, (I’ll keep it simple for you) – In terms of both numbers and in effectiveness, do Mesmers, Guardians and Thieves not dominate PvP?
Thieves are not effective in PvP. Guardians are less effective than Engineers.
Always glad to help GW2 steal some players from wow haha. I can get you started with some of the basics of any class you’d like to learn, a bunch of stuff is about to change on the 25th though, big balance changes (if leaked notes are legit) -so no promises that what I teach you will be super viable after the 25th haha.
I’ve probably got 200+ tourney games on every profession, but right now my strongest to weakest is probably necro > ele > thief > mesmer > ranger > guardian > warrior > engi (hgh is kinda faceroll but I haven’t played my engi in like a month so I’m not super confident on him right now lol). Send me a mail in game and I’ll send you my skype info and you can just hit me up on there whenever (I’m always on skype). Cheers!
PS: this youtube channel is a good resource for learning class builds if you’ve got some free time. Most of the players featured are considered some of the “top” players of their classes.

I used to play WoW pvp a lot too. After playing guild wars 2 pvp I simply can’t get back into wow. Guild wars 2 is a lot more about movement and paying attention to your opponents. Almost all spells can be cast while moving. It feels more like an action game with all the dodging. Also, crowd control isn’t bad in this game. Most ccs only last 2 seconds, unlike wow where you can be chain stunned/feared/polymorphed/etc for 20 seconds at a time. I play an elementalist and love it, scepter/dagger weapon set.
Thieves are not effective in PvP. Guardians are less effective than Engineers.
Extremely subjective, and misguided, point of view. Exactly like the person you responded to, both comments have no weight with regards to class effectiveness.
It’s not an point of view, or an opinion. It’s fact. Thieves hold significantly less value in PvP than most classes. Their capabilities are much narrower. I think most people would agree with me on that.

No actually it’s your opinion. Just because you’re not good at thief does not make the class bad, they can put a lot of pressure on a backpoint for the entire game.
Although yes they don’t fill as many roles as some other classes, that does not mean that they’re inferior in the role they play.
You also forgot to address the rest of what you said.
Zoose, perhaps…
I’ll see who I can get you.
Arganthium, how about me??? =_=!!!! I am not a bad Eles, a decent Eles at most and willing to help out on Eles prof. Kaane Moka is the name and if u are in NA, feel free to contact me. If I am free, I will help. Cheers.

That’s absolutely hilarious, and a wonderful attitude. “Your opinion differs from mine, therefore you must be bad”
Tell me, give me an exact LIST of things that a Thief can bring to a tournament better than any other class.
Stealth rush, Stealth res, Kill people faster, Solo Boss,Jump on people, mobility,etc.. If you are talking about defensive side, then no, Thief is not that good at, but on the offensive side, thief is one of the best to select.
Btw, you are not as good as him. So you are bad. Just saying.
Proud player of : team [uA] – team [TGI]. Australia base, now recruiting.
Stealth Rush doesn’t hardly make any difference. Stealth Ressing is about the only reason I can see. Any class can solo a boss. If you’re indicating burst, then almost every class has an efficient burst, and I’d rather have a Shatter Mesmer. Mobility, again, rather go for Ele/Mesmer.

Actually it’s “You are wrong and your opinion is irrelevant”.
You didn’t read what I wrote and should re-read what I said before replying.
That’s a very nice list Jax, and I agree. Thieves are good at very little that other classes cannot do better.
Thief, Necro, Mesmer are three classes that need to be killed on sight., like period. Thief by himself is already a big threat already.

Anyway, message me in game if you like and I’ll help if I can

Kaane actually plays a really good ele. Since I’m assuming he’s open, try hitting him up in-game. He can teach you a lot.

You three (Arganthium, Jax and TheMightyAltroll) just helped provide useless biased comments that the player pelicankilla wasn’t required to know. I commend Arganthium and TheMightyAltroll for at least trying to get back onto point. Practically /facepalm at Jax’s attempt to continue to troll within this thread without any proper advice at all. I would say for everyone to not let this fall into a troll thread, but clearly the name of the thread is starting to warrant the wrong attention.
Four points of advice can be given to pelicankilla. The first is to post a new thread which actually took a serious approach to his question within a clear format. The second is to research the classes either by youtube or by any other means you like. Judge the play style which best suits you and go with it. The third is to create a character for every class and become a better player while doing so. This option would be lengthy for you but would be worth it in the end. The fourth option is to not just seek aid from one “teacher” but from multiples over time. Obviously gauging whether they are trust worthy and to disregarded any opinions they may have about the various classes that are clearly biased.

Actually no, when somebody says something completely false in a thread where a new player is asking for help I will refute it. The only reason I post on these forums or PvX in GW1, GWW or Guru is to make sure new players do not fall into the trap of listening to players who have no idea what they’re talking about but try and teach people ‘facts’ which are just not true.
I have no need to troll here, the only reason I got into guide making was because I remember what it was like to be relatively clueless about what to run in GW1. Infact, if he had been asking about Guardian advice I’d be giving him tips/builds/whatever he needed.
But when I can’t offer specific advice to this player I have to also make sure other people don’t give him bad advice. You’ll need to redefine your definition of troll to somehow include me in that category.
Pelicankilla you need to follow the four points that I presented in my first post in this thread and take in with a grain of salt any recommendation that is not positive. Choose your “Yoda’s” carefully and seek a wide variety of possibilities. Which means you will never be pigeon holed and can adapt to the changing situations within gw2.

There is a very little amount of players that actually have a clue about PvP, but the majoritiy is just writing some BS over the forum to compensate their lack of skill. Silven belongs to the first group.
There is a tonne of great video’s on youtube. Just check the date of the post to make sure it is a recent game build.
If you wanna roll mesmer there is a video called the comprehensive mesmer guide. really good to watch. It points out strengths, but ti also points out skill labeling mistakes and other minor things that don’t make sense when you first look at them.
Most professions have dedicated video’s on what they can do..after that it’s just practice.

Well, everyone’s biased to some degree. The question is whether or not their beliefs are justified in spite of their biases.
I simply stated that Enmity is not trustworthy because he (I’ll just refer to him/her as “he” for the sake of simplicity) does not provide comments with any sort of credibility to back them. I found this out in another thread, one that I had made and he had hoped, perhaps, to derail. The fact of the matter is, if you’re going to make a claim (ie “Mes/thief/guard are OP”), then you need to have evidence to back it up. Enmity, across all threads, has not once provided evidence to back his claims, so I turn to see if Enmity has any sort of credibility behind his name, which would give at least some reason to believe him. Yet, across all threads, I have found absolutely nothing that supports his being a credible source. In fact, if anything, his contradictions have shown quite the opposite. At least I have developed the spreadsheets and equations to help understand the game. At least I have worked on a now-stickied thread to help beginners find the build that suits them best in the thief forum. At least I am one of the primary founders of a professional all-thief team. Enmity has nothing to his name, and that’s why his claims are pointless. And I’d prefer to see the OP get a truthful answer.
Jesus. A guy asks for help and it becomes a kitten measuring contest. /facepalm
Pelicankilla,
Jax/Silven is legit. Have a good listen if he has something to say to you. Stealth can help you learn Ele. I’ve played with both, so I know. I can’t say much about anyone else here. Don’t know em other than from the forums.
That said, you should also look for a group rather than a teacher in my opinion, because the best teacher in this game is experience and getting teams put together and forming cogent strategies really is as big a part of getting decent in this game as anything.
There are a number of guilds that afford a decent environment for getting teams put together quickly and learning. I’d suggest Academy of the Mists [AoTM] (I can flip you an invite if you’d like, just shoot me a message) as a good starting point. There is a collection of players at different skill levels there, and it is a good place to find tPvP players looking to form teams and groups. Make sure you have at least Teamspeak on your PC and probably one or two other Voips, because some people have a preference toward Ventrilo or Mumble or whatever. Voice comm helps tremendously in teaching, especially during a match when teachable moments occur.
Feel free to message me if you see me in game and I would be willing to help as well.
Thieves are not effective in PvP. Guardians are less effective than Engineers.
Soo since release we see a bunker guardian on every team…
which means that…
ehhh
srsly what`s that even for a comparison kittening hillarious.. less effective concerning what – in comparison to what – roflmao
god i hate forums where every kitten is allowed to share his “opinion”. Free speech should be for smart people only.
ArganthiumWell, everyone’s biased to some degree. The question is whether or not their beliefs are justified in spite of their biases.I simply stated that Enmity is not trustworthy because he (I’ll just refer to him/her as “he” for the sake of simplicity) does not provide comments with any sort of credibility to back them.
Being biased or lacking in credibility means nothing if the opinion expressed is fair comment. To automatically (and by default) disregard opinions based on any perceived bias or lack of credibility is naive and narrow-minded in the extreme. The question is solely one of the validity of my comments and not on my personal credibility – if my comments are valid then my credibility matters not. I’m not surprised that you seem unable or unwilling to grasp this salient and obvious point, as if you were to do so, you would undo most of your own argument against me. The last refuge of those who cannot attack an argument is to attack the person making the argument. With your “credibility and bias” nonsense you’re doing just that. Your continued focus on me and not on what I’ve said speaks volumes.
I found this out in another thread, one that I had made and he had hoped, perhaps, to derail. The fact of the matter is, if you’re going to make a claim (ie “Mes/thief/guard are OP”), then you need to have evidence to back it up. Quote me where I claim that Mesmers, Guardians and Thieves are over-powered.
That aside, I have presented (in the post you choose not to respond to,) the “evidence” of my claims in the form of a reasoned argument which you have chosen not to refute at all. Instead of favouring this tact of trying to discredit me how about you try and discredit my actual argument? Banging on about “credibility” simply shows you’ve no counter to what I’ve said.
ArganthiumIn fact, if anything, his contradictions have shown quite the opposite.
Quote me where anything I’ve said has been contradictory.
All the things you’ve listed to prove your own “credibility” are irrelevant. Are all players who don’t make spreadsheets poor players who don’t know what they’re talking about? Are all players who don’t make beginner’s guides poor players who don’t know what they’re talking about? Are all players not in professional, same-class teams poor players who don’t know what they’re talking about? No, no and no. Unlike you, I don’t feel the egotistical need to spunk my so-called credentials all over the forum in an attempt to bolster my opinions. I’ll just let my arguments speak for themselves.
Finally my advice to the O.P. was; if you want to do well, play one of the strongest classes. What’s untruthful about that?
All you need to do is roll a Mesmer, Guardian or Thief and you’ll dominate PvP.
When did you last play sPvP? Hot join and you’ll see lot of thieves that jump around never capping anything – tons of noobs. Go tourneys and you will rarely see a thief. Guardians are a nice and versatile class. Mesmers again are fun for noobs because they feel they can own everything with their clones…. There’s not many good mesmers out there, but I truly respect those who have mastered the class.
