Looking to get into pvp
Warriors have fairly good build diversity, but it’s going to all be some form of tanky DPS, whether condi or power. That’s just the nature of the class. It’s strong enough in solo queue, but I’d recommend something else if you were looking to build an actual team.
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
What makes them not good for a group?
are they able to get into diamond etc?
Any class is capable of getting into diamond +. As far as group dynamics go, they don’t bring a lot to the table other than good damage.
At higher levels of play, it’s almost always worth it to bring a Necromancer over a Warrior. Necromancers can put out kitten tons of pressure while being focused, while Warriors cannot. Basically, it runs into issues at higher levels of coordination, which you won’t face in solo queues even at Legendary. That’s a team thing.

Well s5 for Ranked is going to be solo/duoQ so you might as start practicing with a warrior. Guardian works well too.
Browse through the builds here to get started:

But in the end you need to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t on your own. Specific match-ups, etc.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
wars have the lowest skill cieling for mechanics but a really high skill floor/cieling for gamesense.
MACEBOW:
Go to metabattle and play the macebow, but switch some things out. Take the wanderers amulet over rabid, on the mace use geomancy + hydromancy, on bow use smoldering + doom. Swap out the boulder smash for sigil of might. Take the flame buff for GM zerker so that your bow shotgun and f1s hurt more (they actually good follow up dmg)
Basically you try to be patient with your headbutt and skullcracks. They hit super hard but any good enemy knows to try and early roll to throw you off. So you need to be creative to land your stuff.
As an example, open with bow, get in shotgun range and 2. If they dodge roll back you can either bow5 or headbutt, then switch to mace. If you ever see mes/theif/guard/war/rev blocks, pop might and get in a free bow 5 or skull crack.
Wars are actually one of the weaker classes, but they have kittened damage and above average tankyness, but you actually have to land your hits. meta rev has 6 disjoints. Meta druid has quite a few too. Everybody else has 3-4. Against theif just have your bow out and use your anti condi for adren and spam bow f1 for heal.
I would honestly suggest you play other classes before playing war so that you know when they have holes in their block strings.

Don’t listen to that guy. Holy kitten. Dropping Shattering Blow for Sigil of Might? I guess you just don’t know how to use Shattering Blow… You can time your Skull Grinders a little bit, but being patient just gives them more cooldowns to work with when you do use them. You need to use it almost off cooldown with slight adjustments based on what they’re doing.
Here’s an actual burst combo from Macebow. Buttblowing doesn’t work anymore, so you’ll just have to use Shattering Blow before the Headbutt:
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
Only good assuming enemies are gonna time your stuff perfectly anyway; when not casting would be not forcing out their evasion.
OP is gonna be playing at low mmr and with patience he should be able to 1v1 80% of players since they blow condi clear or don’t have any at all.
I know you’re kittening Olrun, but do people in legendary really not stunbreak + dodge immediately if they get headbutt? There goes your burst.
he’s on NL, the theif.

People definitely do stunbreak and dodge things. Ideally you’re patient before you initiate the burst so they don’t have many cooldowns. Once you use Berserk, you lose that luxury. You’re doing yourself a disservice by waiting too long. That strategy only works against players too slow to react to Skull Grinder, since they’ll pop cooldowns randomly instead of in reaction when you pressure. Warrior really shines by just applying so much pressure that people can’t just evade or block it all.
In regards to what happens when people stun break Head Butt: If they do it immediately, I delay my Skull Grinder to hit them after the dodge. Patient, but not excessively so. If they don’t stun break immediately, I just use Skull Grinder anyway. Maybe they stun break and dodge. I don’t care. I keep up with them, and right after the dodge ends, I weapon swap to LB and use Fan of Fire into Scorched Earth, which conceals the animation for my subsequent Pin Down. They dodged my Skull Grinder, but I immediately follow up with 3 bleeds, 1 poison, and 3 burn stacks, maybe a blind as a cover condition, depending on the class. Anyway, the point is, if I see them reacting before I do anything, I’ll delay my attack. Otherwise, I’ll just keep on hitting them until something sticks. It’s the best way to play around the Berserk mechanic.

Swap out the boulder smash for sigil of might.
Dropping Shattering Blow for Sigil of Might?
I’m still confused as to how a warrior could replace a utility with a Sigil.

Once you hit Masters, you gain the ability to slot runes and sigils as utilities.
