Low Hanging Fruit
Money in win chests would definitely be nice, even if it’s not as lucrative as Frostgorge farming.
As far as model sizes go, as long as hitboxes are the same on all classes I’m not going to complain too much. Don’t get me wrong, I dislike dealing with norn mesmers as much as anyone, but being a bigger, more obvious target has its downfalls… My norn thief knows this first hand!

Both good ideas! I believe we normalized player models in Super Adventure Box if I’m not mistaken, so it’s probably something we can look at applying to PvP. As far as rewards, gold would be amazing. We’re currently on making rewards in PvP amazing (“Incredible!”), and I’m sure everyone will love it They will roll out in steps, though. So when you see one patch, don’t think that it’s the only thing we have planned.
Bra (80 Guard), Fixie Bow (80 Ranger), Wcharr (80 Ele)
Xdragonshadowninjax (80 Thief)
Also low hanging fruit, reverting elementalist changes from after teh first beta.

Normalized players models? O.o I’ve never seen that till now…
Imho making everyone same size is not the best solution since every race has different animations.
Adding an option to see everyone as human with default armors and weapons, that would be the best solution (of course the option settings would be “None”, “Enemies only” and “All”, same as team colors).
In my opinion size normalizing sounds weird. What for? If someone chooses norn or char for PvP may be it is because he wants to look big and brutal.. That is why we have different races to choose from. Furthermore, with recent targeting improvements I do not think there are any problems to target any character. At least I do not have them. Also, I don’t think that skilled players choose opponents by size. It is more about class/skill.
25 silver in chest sounds good to me btw (even 10 silver :-) ).

Instead of normalizing the models, please introduce a check box that shows everyone using a generic Human models. This has been done in WvW for the low res option.
And yes, please have silver rewarded for the tournament. It will increase the PvP population and you can finally get the population to a critical mass that allows you to do something more amazing!
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.

Is this for real? is arenanet finally taking a position on the “Asuras OP” Debate that has been raging in the forums COMPLETELY unanswered since beta?
A really fun way to do it would be to give a gold reward based on your placement on the ladder.
eg. Split 1-100,101-500,501-1000,1001+ into seperate ‘divisions’. Higher divisions like 1-100 would earn 1G per win, 1001+ would win 10S.

Hit boxes are nomalized. The visual cue disparity between a Charr and an Asura is where the problem lies. People make tiny Asuras so they are harder to spot/follow.

That would actually be really fun, kind of a way of re-creating the excitement of gems for paid tournaments except without the reasons it didn’t work too well back at launch. A win from a high position on the leaderboard would simply be worth more than a win from a lower position.

Since that rewards are currently being redone and soon to be unveiled, they could instead focus on making the elementalist a lot better than a free kill.

Whew that conversation just took a u-turn…
I agree, it’s not really that important to discuss rewards since there’s already stuff about to be unveiled. I just thought it was a cool idea and posted because I felt like posting.
We could say the same for balance: the next patch is certainly going to shake the meta considerably, so we shouldn’t really be lobbying for large buffs/nerfs until we see what happens.

Next patch is going to shake thing for almost every class except for the whole current builds getting nerfed with little to no divisity increase for the elementalist.
I am not lobbying for nerfs, I just want more fairness and be treated like one of the 8 and not like kormir.

Both ideas are great. I am also in favor of being able to choose normalized characters.
You can see a huge norn guardian using hammer skill 4 from moon but same is not true at all for tiny asuras.

So, new reward system will be introudeced step by step with few patches? I hope it won;t take next few months =/
And pls, make legenedaries in the 1st “part”, cant wait longer anymore ;o
As for characters size: I think its gr8 that some ppl play big bad charr, other normal human and others tiny asura, brings variety. I don’t have problems iwht size so i’m for no for normalization.

Thanks for the reply Evan! Good to know you guys already have something underway. And there were definitely some better ways to implement the normalized character models that you guys came up with. After reading the responses I’m partial to having the option so that only you see normalized models. Kind of a mix between my original suggestion and Sunshine’s idea. I don’t know if that is feasible but it would be nice.
I also support Jumper’s idea.

Please do the latter! Shoutcasters and viewers both would thank you and shower you in gems. Right now the game looks like a bunch of monkeys (Asura) flipping around and smacking each other.

It is absolutely great to hear that you have been thinking about both these issues. Normalized character models would make balance so much better and reduce the asura cheese. Rewards including gold for spvp would again be a fantastic addition.
What I don’t understand however, is how you just casually/randomly throw out forward guidance on two huge issues in spvp that the community has been virtually begging for since launch.
I am so happy to hear this stuff, but I must say it seems so weird that you chose to put such an important revelation in a thread with an ambiguous title from a poster that has made 3 posts in the spvp forum and is saying exactly what so many others have said (and just as or more clearly) since launch.
This is like the biggest news I have heard since “new game mode”!

Hit boxes are nomalized. The visual cue disparity between a Charr and an Asura is where the problem lies. People make tiny Asuras so they are harder to spot/follow.
Not mention things like staff 5 on guard on female human they rise up with arms out stretched. On human male they crouch down. On asura they climb up their staff and pivot round..etc etc..the same skill requires you to know not just it’s animation..but all the animations it has across all cultures.
just add awesome pve rewards in pvp chests, like good looking skins you can only earn in spvp, than you will have way more pvpers
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
There is not neccessarily a need for the devs to normalize character models, if tournament organizers really cared about it then they could just put it into the rules, e.g. asura race is banned, or ever player needs to play a male human (many possibilities).
I propose simply normalizing character Size.

Another pvp improvement I think you guys could make would be to normalize character sizes in pvp.
I think this would be a great idea actually but I’m guessing a lot of people would hate it. It wouldn’t be very hard – they did it for Super Adventure Box.

Normalizing character models does not go far enough. The reason I say it does not go far enough is because races each have their own individual animations for abilities this is a barrier to entry for all players as instead of learning five abilities per weapon per class, you have to learn 25 abilities per weapon per class. I hope that one day there will be an option similar to the team colors drop down to view all players as “human”.
Oh, like you can view all enemies as Sarge in Q3A, I like the idea! But yeah, you’re right that the huge variety of animations is a barrier to entry, but that can be solved in a way simpler manner: CASTING BARS!
The reason I think normalising character height is necessary is completely different though: it’s the LOS system. Currently, to make things “fair” for characters of all heights, LOS is calculated from your character’s feet to your target’s feet. This is extremely annoying and unintuitive, as it means that if your target is standing on a ledge you can’t hit each other, as the corner of the ledge blocks LOS unless your target is standing right at the edge of it! ANet have worked hard to make this game more intuitive and let people play it just by looking at the screen, and this system flies completely in the face of that philosophy, as you see someone whom you SHOULD be able to hit, whom common says tells you you WOULD hit in real life (if you had a stick that shot magical projectiles :p ), but you still get the “obscured” message like an obstinate and illogical “computer says no” error.
The only issue is cast bars go against the design intent of the game and they are only good for one player at a time but when you need to keep track of multiple people it starts becoming useless. Cast bars also open up the field to use a program (due to fixed location) to track the cooldowns of your opponents for you. I am VERY against cast bars due to the detection capability that ANet has to police such abuses. Fix the options for the ability to view “all humans” etc while being able to see yourself as any whatever you set yourself as, that way no one gets upset for not playing “their character”.
I wonder if my asura will look all awkward being full size haha. The low hanging fruit they should really be focusing on is just tweaking numbers till each weapon set is viable in spvp. A lot of skill need total revision but get the sets working first off. For example, thief is dropping from 2 to 1 viable build post patch; this is not the right direction Anet.
