Lvl requirement for tournaments
I think a better idea is to have a point requirement set per class, something along the lines of 2000-3000 rank points.
This way the player will have to get used to a build of some sort within each class, giving him and others around him in soloq/teamq a better chance at winning.
I think the biggest problem is new players don’t know where to go. I see it all the time in the Mist. First place they go is straight to the tournament master. I even asked a few maybe they should try hotjoin first. They say, “What is that?”
Heavens Rage
Pvp lvl 20 requirement was just a suggestion. I just think no requirement to enter tournaments is silly, because there are people who never been in pvp before and that is really hurting whole tournament system. People should learn some basics in regular pvp first, before they enter tournaments. That is my opinion.
Dota 2 may have some sweet system with unlocks. (In GW2: X Unrated matches to be able to join rated Queues)
Also, there is still no proper tutorial. Not even any cinematic showing new players what to find where in the mists and so on.
I think having some sort of requirement for joining tPvp or Solo queues would be great. I know I hate getting new players in my solo q matches. I never tPvp with less than a team of 5 because of the random newb pugs.
Also, I feel preloading skills and armor on a first timer who enters the mist is a bad idea.
Instead when someone first enters the mist all their skills are blank, as well as weapons and armor and provide them with an introductory quest.
The introductory quest
– Purchase a weapon from the Weaponsmith
– Purchase a sigil from the Weaponsmith
– Equip the Sigil
– Purchase starter armor from the Armorsmith
– Purchase Runes from the Armorsmith
– Equip 6 Runes
– Purchase an Accessory from the Accessory guy (forgot his name)
– Equip 5 Utility Skills
– Set your traits
– Visit the Hotjoin guy and play your first match
I know it seems kinda long but I think it will help out a ton of new players.

This is a brilliant Idea, kudos to you. I don’t think rank=skill, but rank is an indication of experience. A quest like this might be the type of eye-opener that helps new players get a better grasp of spvp.
I absolutely agree that sPvP is not very noob-friendly. Some kind of proper tutorial (like Jerry Attrick suggested) would be optimal but also rank requirement on Tournament would be amazing. Rank 10 would probably be adequate.

I do not support rank requirements into getting into tournaments. This goes against the heart of the game in regards to PvP with everything being accessible from the start.
If you are actually good in PvP eventually your MMR will rise to the point where having a low level in your team is not frequent.

jk, match making doesn’t work
supposely top 1000 match
yes, it was 4v5 too
and such crap happens more often than actual normal matches

I think a better suggestion than setting a rank requirement would be to lower the starting MMR a lot. Also Jerry Attrick.5963 wrote would be a good idea.
But it’s just as sad when you have rank 50+ players who aren’t much better than <rank 20 players >_>

This is how it usually is. You want input from us and suggestions and good ideas. But its a one way street. How can we have discussions if there isn’t a lot of back and forth and openness about what going on.

Correction, this goes against the ideals of the founding fathers of GW2, however. With recent changes—Eg. Unlockable skills (because they don’t want to drown new players with information)—I don’t see a rank floor being a problem.
I think the way the “unlockable” skills should be introduced is using ranks, rather than Achievement points. It’s very unfair for the people that only do PvP, to have to do PvE to get the new skills—because under the current system of glory→Tome of Knowledge, it takes too long. This would also be a great way to introduce a rank requirement for ranked play.

optimal would be:
Unranked Que (join system same as teamQ we have right now 1-5 people)
- no lvl requirement
- it use MMR from the competive Ques
- first 20-50 games are to find hidden the START MMR for this guy
- no Leaderboard, no Ladder
- Archievements work here too (like champion titles)
SoloQ (join system same like it is now)
- Start lvl = played atleast 25 games in unranked Que (50?)
- start MMR from unranked Que
- no unCompetive Maps like Skyhammer
TeamQ (join 5 people Team only)
- when Waittime for match longer than 5 minutes the team get the message: we dont have enemy for you atm, wanna play unranked game while waiting?
done
thank me later^^
+ a “Ready Check” pre match. If it isn’t fully checked, remove the afkers and search to refill the gaps.

This is perfect, the little introductory thing when you first enter the mists is too short, and is skippable. If players were required to do this it would at least give them a good layout of where everything is in the mists
I wouldn’t want a rank limit since a lot of WvW players are really skilled but dont do spvp

I wouldn’t want a rank limit since a lot of WvW players are really skilled but dont do spvp
thats no reason – when skilled than they still have to learn the basics from the gamemode and should make some games before
noone care for duell skills
then make the limit like 5 because it takes about 5 matched to figure out the game mode
Sharks With Lazers [PEW]
20 games tooo much for you? Than why even wanna play spvp?
seriously
There’s a gold requirement to get a commander tag in WvW. Although anyone with enough gold can get it, your lucky that rarely anyone abuses it. Think if everyone could get a commander tag on start and not get to understand what it means first? Would be hell in WvW. there’s also a rank requirement for siege and such. Tournament play should have a rank requirement. I think rank 15 would be fine.

Sorry, I didn’t see your post. But I don’t really understand what that means. Could you elaborate a little? When you say software requirements for queue all I can think of is being required to have windows 8 to enter a queue lol. If you could elaborate a little on what you’re implying a thread should discuss regarding queue I/anyone would be willing to make a thread for it.

That screenshot is baseless as there is no indication of when it was taken. You could be trying to claim that it happened recently, but significant changes have been made to the MMR system and from my experience I have never experienced it worse unless I was the same MMR as a new player.

Yes we need something like this. We have 2 minutes till the game starts which is too much time. Many people during this time go afk and then the match starts with afkers. I say 1 minute wait time would be ok. Also i would force ppl to join pvp (from pve or wherever they are) sooner because many slowloading ppl join at the last second not making it on time and we are starting outnumbered many times because of this. Whats the point of having 2 minute wait time when ppl are joining on last second anyway?

Remove hotjoin add unranked queue? My body is ready. Really this is the kind of bonus that league or any other e-sport has. The casual base plays exactly what the pros do. Hot join is not even remotely the same as an actual 5v5 match. #Esports
But really. Friends don’t wanna go hotjoin together, they wanna queue team q together but then they run into an organize team and get stomped. Unranked queue is amazing for just a casual group of whoever to just queue and have some fun. Would be the perfect place to go and play joke builds too.
(edited by Phantaram.4816)
oh and add to this same as they have in league of legends
ingame statistics for accounts and show:
wins
loses
LEAVES
even for unranked
match people with too much leaves only with people with leaves too until they play atleast 50 games in a row without leaving
thx^^

it was taken after pvp changes, look at screenshot again, i got silver for match
idk why it works like this, i win for a while, hit certain rating and then i start getting matches like this…which makes absolutely no sense as you would assume that after some wins i would get more experienced teammates
back to topic: i agree with Romek idea, you shouldn’t be able to do ranked if you left matches so many times in a row

Exactly. EXACTLY. It would also give people a reason to spend money on custom arenas if they want to duel/deathmatch
Easier solution OP:
Step 1. Get good.
Step 2. Meet other solid players.
Step 3. Play Team Queue together.
Step 4. …
Step 5. Profit.
thats what i want! a unranked que instead of hotjoin. So you can try out different classes and builds in an environment like a real game, without getting zerged. If i try it in hotjoin i can never tell if i get better with it. if i try it in soloq i get destroyed because of the rating and i also lose this rating

Hotjoin exists with ancient server interface because they want to make this game into an fps
I want to quit life, seems like a huge wave of new players today and it’s just so random now if i win or not..
People double/triple caping close then going svanir for example, or just staying for the cap point and follow you around and dies. Or team losing every other point even tho i’m fighting 2-3 players alone for over 3 min, how is it possible.
I used to be quite happy in solo queue until today, now hot join seems like the better place to go for me since they seem smarter :/, i just don’t know what to do to carry them anymore beside winning 1v5 fights inside their base maybe….
Lol I just had a match a day or two ago in teamq where a necro was seriously just wandering around the map on foefire. Literally wandering the middle of the map not doing anything/fighting people that came near him. I kept asking in team chat what he was doing as we needed support at mid and he just kept wandering the whole match. The match ended and he was rank 1. This should not be happening.

This is exactly why there should be some sort of requirement to enter tournaments.
I think having some sort of requirement for joining tPvp or Solo queues would be great. I know I hate getting new players in my solo q matches. I never tPvp with less than a team of 5 because of the random newb pugs.

Yeah, and add a final step: Get rank 20 before participating in any rated queues.
