A 1v1 shouldn’t last more than a minute. First mistake should lead to a players death. The opportunity to punish an enemie players mistake is what makes a game competetive.

In Buildwars a 1v1 between two not completely trash players will last till the first player has to sleep because even if you make some mistakes your defensive cooldowns will be up in time.

Also it is not fun to play against all those defensive builds and even if you play a full berserker build and hit a full combo on the enemie (like hammer stun+GS 2 skill as warrior, LB knockback and rapid fire on ranger) he will not die.

Edit: Those tanky builds are especially stupid considering the main game mode is capture the flag and one tanky player can hold a point against 2 other guys.

Yes you are right. This hybrit thing doesn´t worke. It´s boring.
Every class has too much of everything. I´m writing the same thing for months and years now. Anet doesn´t seem to care much.
They are just catering the pve crowd the nice easy farm pvp what they want.

I´m having no expectations but I´m curious if they are going to change something drastically with the new expansion coming out.

If they did that then EVERYONE would play thief/guard/warrior lol. They would have to completely rework all of the other professions to make them remotely viable in a zerk-only, no survival meta. Either that or severely rework/tone everything down to being on the same level as zerk ele/engi/ranger.

I wouldn’t care either way, since a full zerk meta would be equally as exciting as a full tank meta, full condi meta or full healer meta, but many of the professions just aren’t set up to be bursty 1 v 1 masters like thieves, guardians, and warriors, so it would just take a lot of extra work to rebalance everything to suit a 100% first-to-burst-wins game.

I don’t think OP is asking for a first-to-burst-win type of playstyle, but more of a “make one mistake and get punish for it”. This is very much the case pre-D/D cele, where you have players pre-cancel skills to bait out dodges and defenses. Now you don’t see cancel skill much, sometimes for moa, but nothing more. Now defenses are so excessive that even if players get fooled they still have another backup without much punishment.

And then you also have skills that do damage, defense at the same time, or even CC with it. You can only find 1-2 of those examples in core builds.

This is not a pure reflex based FPS! If you want this i suggest to look for other games. I played CS and when i want this i won´t play a game like GW2.

I’m all for it but on the other hand you should increase the cd of said bursts.
In your example: if a ranger can hit with his pew pew for like 15k it can’t be their lowest cd weapon skill.

You have to fight both offensive and defensive spamming.

Just take away passives. There are too many options that allow someone to defend themselves without pressing any buttons. the biggest offenders are ones that make someone invulnerable at x% health. make the trait reduce the cool down on said invulnerable skill instead so they at least have to press a button.

Don’t make everything squishier, that would be a bad idea.

Instead reduce the ability to bunker that some builds have, mainly by reducing passive defenses, and lowering the amount/duration of personal sustain that some classes have. Then also take a look at reducing burst from some builds, since the bunkers will be gone.

Most 1v1 already take 1 min or less. When it doesn’t its generally because one of the participants, if not both, is built to be able to stalemate a 1v1 indefinitely. That or bad play.

OP, we’ve had that burst meta. It was removed because people, “Don’t have the reaction time to counter.” said abilities. Because of the complaints and Anet’s quick roll back of the patch, it’s safe to say we’re never getting another burst meta.

Really? I didn’t play PvP after release because I got rekt there back then lol. But if they change the meta because some noobs cry, thats just sad. PvP should be survival of the fittest with the fastest reactions and not just brainless rotation spamming.

I also believe things are better in WvW. Roamers there often play squishy builds and if I dodge wrong I eat kitten . If A-Net wants a serious PvP scene and not just a kindergarten for low elo players from other games they should react.

Yeah but making your game so fast that you have to be on a fiber connection in order to play doesn’t end well.

This is why all those twitchy fast-action Korean PvP games never do well in the west, because those twitchy fast-action Korean games where designed around Korea where all the population is crammed into a tiny area and everyone lives a block from a fiber hub and get 10ms server latency.

The other problem with designing around fast reaction times, is that a person’s reaction time is largely based on genetics. However consuming a stimulant like caffeine does improve reaction times.

It´s rly not that fast after all, you don´t need a fiber con for that. And there is nothing to argue about anyways.
Like around the first year gw2 it was like that and it was very fun and worked well(ofc alot of bugs, balance issus, usuall stuff).
It´s always just the ones who come from pve who want everything slow and easy.
If they want to save the spvp, they need to look back at that time and get some inspiration from that. This hybrit thing has no futur.

the way i see it it should be a mix of tactic ,reaction and dependable on the class /build you play a bit rock paper scissors.
not too fast but not too slow either.
in mmos you should play not only your self but also the class.
if the majority runs glassy builds then the game will never have personality.

bigger uptime might fix the zerking abit in wvw also.

action combat made mmos better lol

The issue is sustained healing. They should reduce the healing regen provides and nerf protection too.

Meh, semantics. This 100ms+ player on CS:GO was a pro and obliterated us. Practically carried his team. Unless he was against a team of equal skill, it doesn’t matter a whole lot in the general population.

MMORPG’’ aren’t nearly as dependant on skill accuracy, nor does the game need low latency; I have played on Satellite internet, you basically plan ahead and cast your abilities ahead of time.

Point being, a return of the burst meta wouldn’t require a low latency connection. Not in the slightest.

Burst damage is already crazy high and it’s so easy to spam,it requires 0 skill,and one shots are already a thing in PvP.
And even the tankiest build available can be focused and killed in under 10 seconds.
In the end,make this a FPS,go away with all the stealth and all the overboard kitten utilities that have made some professions here resemble more what would be a hacker in any other game,and rename the game to Call of Guild Wars 2.
That would be fun.

Read your op again.
From what I understand this is a L2P issue.
Learn to interrupt heals,and cc,and focus dps players with your team mates.
Other than that,nothing needs to be squishier,if anything dps needs to be toned down both in plain damage and condition damage.
