Make the PVP Lords a lot stronger
There is nothing at all wrong with the Lord being solo-able. You will never kill it solo unless the other team makes zero effort to stop you, and if they have so little awareness of the map that they just ignore a player killing their lord, they deserve to lose. No class can kill it solo fast enough that the other team doesn’t have time to react and when there is someone supporting, no class can kill it solo at all. This is how it should be in my opinion.
In addition, the Lord being kill-able solo can allow for some great distraction plays. When my team is losing the fights and will not win if nobody changes how they play, I will just go for a Lord solo and either manage to kill it (very, very rarely will the other team let me) or hold back 1-2 players and allow my team to outnumber the rest of the map and win the game. Making the Lord too strong to be killed solo will take away strategy like this.

An anecdote about you rarely pulling it off can be countered by me giving one where I see players do it all the time and swiftly (but you still can do it obviously).
On the first run they may break the doors and kill the guards if not the whole shabang, the next run boom lord is dead, giving one player to change the whole game easily is not very team based.
Also, sometimes you are in a fight on a point when this strategy happens, or across the map, being killed trying to go save the Lord against one person is even worse.
I believe one person being able to do it is too much, 2 is fine, make map control a little harder as a sacrifice. Plus the “Your Lord is under attack” distraction will still work, just not award the game to a solo player.
I agree, it should require team effort, but then teamplay =/= spvp.
Nah I agree with suffish being able to solo lord is an important thing for comeback strategies.
Doesn’t matter what the purpose is if only distraction or really going for the kill it’s an important factor on this map. If lord isn’t soloable anymore we might as well get rid of him no need for other map mechanics then… this is pvp not pve which means you should not be needed to kill lord with full team.

I find it hard to believe the original intent of the devs was to make this a soloable character.
I did not say full team, just make the lords out of reach for a SINGLE player; I take back what I said about beasts, they can stay the same(not that anything will change). Their points are not that big of an impact when compared to game ender for stronghold and 150 for conquest.
If “2” players can slay the lord a comeback can still be achieved, or a distraction can be provided by just one for those without map awareness. Allowing majority map control and killing a lord with one player is a little much.
The lord was not so easy to solo before HoT, a bit more taxing of a job, even that kinda power difference would be acceptable.

What you are asking for, is in essence, for a secondary map mechanic to require team effort. How will we change the treb on Kyhlo or Skyhammer so they require more than one player?

But you saw what happened in Jurassic Park. People would complain that the new lord raptor is OP.
I’m not asking for a new game mechanic, I am asking for it to be rectified. The trebuchet in Khylo is annoying but hardly a game ender for one person. The relative distance between the points on Skyhammer make it easier to at least prevent a person from capping the Skyhammer; there is a limited time that the point can be capped. Also the big announcement usually let’s somewhat experienced players to move out the cap point momentarily.
Realistically on stronghold the ability to solo is not as dramatic because the point of the game is to get through to the lord while defending your own, so it is not too often that someone solos but I still think it should not be possible (at least in 1 go with all NPC’s still standing).
PVE is a optionally solo event, SPVP you are automatically in a team of 5, wanting to have team play is not PVE thinking.
I feel like the change will make the games more primary goal focused and intense, vs. the disappointment of playing assignments and being in the lead 475-350+ with majority points and instant loss by 1 person’s efforts.
The change won’t change strategy but bring focus to primary objectives.

Just to throw this out here.
I play dagger/war horn shout ele and i had a group of 3 try to take lord and i alone was able to heal him up to about 80% when he was at about 50%.
There is simply a big issue with rotations and roles. People run around the map not thinking of where it would be best to rotate for everyone.
Lastly the beast kills are so crucial on knowing how to beat it. Ive had 4-5 games decided this year from a final beast kill. Those crucial games decide tiers which is good for game play.

90% of the time when I’m salty or logging off PvP it’s because a game was won by doing PvE instead of PvP…. I, the player, want to fight other players when I sign up for PvP, go figure right?

Its a side mechanic.
It takes coordination and communication to kill lord. If you got 5 air heads not watching the mini map gates or people sitting on ledges or in team fights where its 2-3 people trying to kill 1 that stuff happens.
The beast burst kill is a thing too with thieves and burn guardians being the beast at it but even they will not get it from another class timing the kill shot.
I mean its why no one likes Kylo, there is no real 2nd mechanic to change the tides.
So many people quit or get mad after the initial zerg fight. These 3 other maps temple-legacy-forest are the fave because they have everything.
I understand people getting mad but most people ignore beasts till the end or because they are dominating. Alot of people like legacy simply because no match potentially is out of range. And temple is my favorite because it takes the most team work and people watching there mini maps and the timer.
Only argument I see for “too easy to solo” is giving the lord group some type of condi clear. The supporting NPCs are designed around stopping ranged and sustained power dmg, but not spike condi damage.

Personally I love Khylo because I can kill treb and disable any and all map mechanics leaving a pure form of Combat between players…. Temple is my second favourite but I’m not in a tier where anyone contests me for temple buffs, Usually grab both alone while my team tells me how useless the buffs are and to ignore them…
I can’t say much for others but my opinion is the opposite of everything you just said really, I hate foefire with a passion.
But like I said, I get salty when the game is won with PvE mechanics, I actually like Hammer mechanics but I hate the Hammer map, wish we could have some secondary mechanics more along those lines, where you PvP for it. Just my opinion though, you don’t have to share it you’re welcome to yours.

Engi can easily kill lord in his sleep and only counter to it is necro which will never reach lord in time.
Condis also murder the lord and you can’t do much vs it unless you bring ele+ druid but chances are that lord will still go down.
He also loves to break stealth and sit in AoE. At least they could have updated his AI to HoT mobs which tend to run out of harmful aoe.

No, they should replace all PvP NPCs with the kittening DBL ogre lord.
But even then I bet the thieves would be the ones complaining the loudest about how much he stealth, evade and stun.
A lot of good points made by a lot of people. I think all the secondary goals need to be revisited and updated…I do not think they have since HoT. Please Anet….a challenge for a change. Don’t make or keep things easy..make them harder, players will feel better about doing it.
For 25 points I’d say the difficulty of the beasts is fine being possible to solo. It’s more annoying that you can have them near death solo and some lucky git from the other team manages to get the last hit and scores.
Shouldn’t that be changed to who did the most damage still in combat?
Examples: Blue player solos beast, 50% health left red player attacks beast, both fight it to death. Blue scores, well 50% left and blue still fighting red couldn’t do more.
Blue player solos beast, gets 90% of it’s health off. Red player joins fight, either kills blue player while beast is still alive or blue player runs away. Either way blue player is out of combat with beast. If red kills it red scores.

I agree the beast are fine, I took a moment to reconsider.
The lords need to be revisited in my opinion.
Updating them might also discourage the players who automatically at the start of a game begin attacking the lord in conquest, when they could be better utilized at a contested point

This thread can’t just get LOST, c’mon more hate or love. The Lords need to be revisited and even so as the game progresses. People are wiley and will figure out a way to Trumptrain any changes to the game…so change this….makes the Lord’s stronger, or was GW1 not proof that the collective playerbase could not outsmart and exploit any update you made? (also i made a home move otherwise this thread would not have been bumped so late)

Many, many players can handle more than a “Lord” with his entourage, what a joke! so weak
i think lord should be soloable to allow for play like suffish mentioned
But maybe give the defending team a little more possibilities to actively defend Lord
For example:
-> Make Lord easier to Heal
Like + 30% Healing Effectiveness from players on Lord to actively keep him alive better if you show up to defend
This doesnt make Lord himself stronger but makes it a bit easier to defend
-> OR give Lord a skill like endure pain but with a huge cooldown (120sec?) that he will use at 80% maybe
so while this again doesnt make Lord much stronger overall in a fight it helps to prevent the Lord from being bursted down super quick and allows for a little bit more time to react for the defending Team
Those 2 solutions wouldnt buff Lord too much if an enemy Player tries to solo kill it
(if you dont manage to send 1 player to defend you deserve to lose lord)
But it would allow for better active defense from a Player

Pretty much this. Lord has breakbar, heals himself, and has a downstate. He doesn’t need to be a fractal boss. There is plenty of time to defend against one attacker if you are paying attention.
They’re fine as they are. You’re not supposed to send your team to them. You’re supposed to send one person to clear them, maybe two if you need to clear it quick.
