Map and Say chat
If you want to tell your team something you have to use Team chat. Its the same as map chat, just that the other team cant read it. It would be acutally nice to have something similar like that for say chat to make ppl notice when you are down, but w/e.
Well I understand that, but with people now, if they down you they have something to say. If you down them they have something to say and well I dont want to see nor read anything they have to say.
Then they’d just whisper you.
(in WvW they put you on the block list; get your name from there and then start whispering you.)

yes but its far less common of a thing and if I set myself to offline, no whispers right?
I mean I can understand the desire to have it in custom arenas but regular PvP?
Oddly enough I find most of the hostility in PVP comes from team chat, not map chat.
I mostly use map chat to comment on something hilarious that happens to me during the game. Usually on Skyhammer where occasionally the map does legitimately beat me. Or I’ll use it to ask if the enemy team has an AFK member or something if it becomes an absolute blowout. And of course to say the customary “GG” at the end of a match win or lose.
It’s very rare I see people use map chat for trash talk. It’s either dead silence or some fairly civil commentary.
Then turn your map chat off.

Being a jerk doesn’t really say much good about you.
@OP: As was said, teamchat can’t be read by the other team. You can disable /say-chat in the chat-options, and you can do the same with mapchat if you want.
I personally prefer them to be on, as I see nice or funny comments more often than any kind of actual verbal abuse.
