Massive lags and team-wide desyncs in Ranked
Type in match /IP.
Get pingplotter (free), enter IP shown in the game into the program and start. It will trace the entire route to Anet server with live statistics, you will be able to see at which hop there is a problem. Sometimes it is Anet servers, sometimes it is infamous level-3 provider, often it is actually user issue like firewalls, default DNS-server settings etc.

could you explain then why servers, providers and firewalls distinguish between hotjoin/unranked and ranked matches ? because that doesnt make sense at all.
Since the latest patch I get huge lag spikes but it is only in Ranked. Just now I played a game with a ping that ranged from 1.1k all the way up to 5k ms. As soon as the game ended, I went back to 80 ping in Hotm and it stayed that way for Hotjoin and Unranked. Mind you, while I was in the game I did not lag whatsoever in Teamspeak and, in the same game, speedtest gave me 18 mbps and 50ping.
I get same problems, huge desynchs resulting in errors, only way to relog. Sometimes whole team is wiped and forced to relog

Do you really think everything runs on same server or same server instance for that matter? Not to mention chances are you are connected through different ports.
Also, gw2 servers maintenance and patching is done “live” so to say. We don’t have downtimes. How do you think they accomplished it?
Idk Ncsoft servers and network infrastructure nor i think any Anet employee could ever tell us much about it due to NDA and stuff like that but it would definitely interesting to hear why forum/gemstore/patch servers maintenance/update processes affect pvp matches so much xD
That being said, the issue might be still at user/isp/level3 provider end and not necessary ncsoft servers.

It’s a conspiracy to make sure your team loses

no i dont. but you claimed that it matters knowing how much your ping drops or which way your connection takes, when there are no issues with lags in standard modes. which implies that mentioned ranked matches are on dedicated servers with issues. so that was actually your statement with a bit (for me it seems like a bit, idk) logic applied to it.
and can you pls explain why you claimed i think everything runs on the same server ? i didnt say anything, i just asked a question based on your “advice”. which, btw, you didnt answer.

The method i posted would just show whether issue really lies at ncsoft side or somewhere in between. Just sitting in HotM and possibly not experiencing lag doesn’t say much because game (and network tech) do try to make up for packet loss.
I also don’t think that there is dedicated server for pvp matches, at least what i could observe from lag in matches and at the same time maintenance/downtimes on forums/gemstore/patch servers etc.
And no, i didn’t experience any massive lags in ranked matches since HoT went live. It doesn’t mean anything as i am only one of many users and what i experience or you experience doesn’t necessary apply to other.
There is dedicated forum section for such issues. You can also open a ticket, tech support in this game is actually quite insightful.

I was having lag issues yesterday. I added " -clientport 80" to my shortcut target and it seemed to fix it.
there are numerous lag tools available, from netlimiter to st like lag7, and there are newer ones too.
but nobody would ever use them here, of course.
