Match Quiting to Preserve Ratio(TPVP)
If you read the leaderboard FAQ it states that leaving a game mid-game will result in a loss on the leaderboard.

If they log out mid-match it will still record the loss and then display it the next time they complete a match. So if they leave 10 times in a row at any point from the 2min pre-match window and the end of the match, the next time they finish a match even if they win it will count up the 10 losses and 1 win.
But yeah I agree there needs to be more of a penalty. I read somewhere else where someone suggested leaving = 2 losses. Lockouts seem silly to me because most of the time closing the game means you’re going to watch netflix or browse tumblr the next couple hours anyway.
I don’t think it’s functioning as intended we tested it with 2 people and 1 of them never got any losses reflected.
Worked when I tried it. It takes a while to test because the leaderboards don’t update on schedule, not for me at least.
Ya i’m aware of the update times we waited 3 cycles of the update and it never showed up so its at least working some of the time.
I don’t think it shows up as a loss, but it does hurt their rating. So yeah, if you see a 900 ranked player with a 95% win ratio, that’s probably why.

That sounds dubious. If it knows you lost, ie penalizing your rating the exact way a loss would. why wouldn’t your loss totals update. I have 2 accounts I’ll test it if I get some time on the account I rarely play. It would be easy to win a few games and drop a few matches at the very end and watch what happens to your rating. If you continue to move up the rankings its not working correctly.

The FAQ is wrong. And considering that everyone has pointed out that it is wrong and nothing has been done, I’d wager it is a flat out lie.
It SHOULD count not as one loss but 2 or 3… getting really tired of 4v5s today… especially ones that could have been won otherwise.

Yeah, but that doesn’t discourage players from leaving if they see a losing match (that can actually be turned around). Something additional to that one loss needs to be done.

The bigger concern is that if someone leaves a match, it not only hurts their rating, but makes the match lopsided and will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the other members of their once-team. I don’t like the notion of a solo-queue player hurting the ratings of other players simply as a form of griefing (this happens).

they need to set it up like dota where if you leave a match or dc you have 5 min to get back in or risk a penalty of low priority match que and lose out on the ability to gain rank glory and items

Excellent idea. Ban on earning glory for 1 hour. it has 0 mechanical effect on the player, but still counts as a penalty of sorts.
Are we talking about clicking exit to desktop or alt f4? or does it not make a difference?

It makes no difference. Currently both are a loss to rating.

after a long time of suggestions in Heroes of Newerth, they implemented a change to rating +- when a team have a leaver… leaver gets more – rating than others and others get less – rating (still balanced, the leaver just take a bit of – rating from everyone else in team)… seems fair to me
Yeah quite like that suggestion. 5minutes to return or else you are hit with a rating loss + you take a % of your team mates rating loss. Perhaps 25% from each player , effectively giving the leaver 2 loses. While being slightly leniant on the remaining 4.
Sounds good to me!

^this
it’s great that it will finally display the loss but as many have stated something stronger needs to be put in place to discourage the behavior some people don’t care about the rating or leader boards at all so they will just continue to do it unless they are penalized in some fashion.
