Match making is bad

Looking into it.
Edit: Ouch! You have been hit by a series of bad matches. I’ll see what we can do to improve things.

Yea… I went from 80% win rate (playing with a group) to 48.72% after a set of like 15 loses out of 20 matches (Qing Solo). Ranked is soooooooooo bad right now. The 5 wins were from a group otherwise I would have plowed through 20 matches without winning (The sad thing is I’m always the top player with people scoring 0 points not knowing what to do….) You have premade teams vs pve players/afkers (which I sadly get stuck with). You have people with 70,80, friggin 90% win rates in the new ranked system…. It’s absurd. Solo Q is dead with this new system forcing players to be in groups otherwise get wiped on the floor with.
…
I’m not sure what to tell you. Your matches have mostly been fair, though you were on the winning side of a few lopsided matches. Your MMR may have been too high from playing in a full party, or your build works better with your team more than solo.
The only thing that stands out is one game of Temple. You were expected to win by a wide margin, but lost hard. Do you happen to remember that one? Does anything stand out? Other than that, there was only one pre-made vs solos, and that went as expected.
There may still be something going on, but I can’t really say one way or another because of the low sample size. Let me know if you continue to see this trend.

I don’t really get why this is happening to me. I played early in the AM (4AM-6AM PST US west coast), and I was getting pretty fair matches, but I just played 3 games and all of them were losses where it seemed that it was an obvious premade vs a bunch of newer players.
I was always outnumbered or always focused, even on home point. When I played really early, I’m assuming I was playing with people outside the US since it was so early (or late), games were pretty even and player skill was quite even as well. Getting all these bad matches in a row really kills it for me.
Thank you for trying to fixing things, Justin.

I’m only seeing 2 games, hmm. Was one a practice? That wasn’t your imagination, you were predicted to lose both times.
1) Forest, was 2-1-1-1 vs 2-1-1-1 You had a slight rank and MMRs disadvantage though.
2) Foefire, was 2-2-1 vs 1-1-1-1-1, ranks were even, but you had MMR advantage. Apparently wasn’t enough to overcome roster disadvantage.
The second one is interesting, and I think some changes I’ve been working on will help.

Haha, then I’m just imagining that third one or thinking that I wanted to play a third but didn’t after that loss. Yeah, the second game there wasn’t much communication or map pinging done.
Thanks for all you do!
it’s REALLY cool that you’re taking time to look into this stuff justin, just be careful not to let the forum overwhelm you with requests :P
edit: however i guess if that happens is just sign hat everyone would like to see what his stats (such as mmr and predicted outcome) actually were in his matches.
what if those stats were disclosed to players delayed like, i don’t know, a week later so there can not reasonably be player shaming since you wouldn’t really be able to remember who was that one rookie in your team several days ago?

Why are solo vs premades still a thing? I had a 6 game winning streak yesterday, which was ended by a (full) premade team of ~top 50 LB players. I normally wouldn’t mind losing, but this led me to stop q’ing. Not only do I have to play vs. premades, no, I also lost ranking points because we got roflstomped by them.
Solo vs. premades should – at least – always result in no ranking loss for the solo side even when they get roflstomped, because the current system simply discourages solo q’ing.

I imagine all those straight wins fluffed your score enough that that top 50 team was hte closest to your fluctuating MMR that qued during the time limit. I used to get put against premades ALOT but as I played more I get fewer and fewer of them until I go on a win streak like that. Then I suddendly get partnered against the teams with 4 celes on and and…well…its already game over then unless there really really bad at there classes.
can you also check my match ups… about 80% of my matches is matched with complete newbies. i use to be solid top 50-100 in solo queue and now im getting hot join quality teams (with and against)…
Hi Justin I’m wondering if you could take a look see at my match ups over the last couple of days I’ve noticed I have been going up against Tiger and shark ranks quite a lot and I’m only rank wolf , also my team has even said that they haven’t done pvp in any way apart from farm ranks and this is leaving me at a disadvantage. On the old system solo Q worked fine for me got some decent matches the old ranked arena again got some excellent matches…This is leaving me with some wins and a lot of losses I think, I know I am not a pvp player pro just a casual scrub that likes to pvp on and off but the match up seems rather odd… PS happy holidays/christmas and all the best for 2015

PUT SOLO QUE BACK. YOURE NEVER GOING TO BE ESPORTS NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO FORCE PEOPLE TO GROUP. THE PVP POPULATION HAS DROPPED QUITE A BIT SINCE THIS SEASON STARTED.
PEOPLE LOGGING INTO MY FRIENDS LIST IS GETTING FEWER AND FEWER…WTG kittenING UP A GREAT GAME.
ILL REPEAT….GW2 WILL NEVER BE ESPORTS
@Justin
Would it be possible for every player to check by himself, if he should’ve won or lost specific match? Or just make something at the end of the match so the team can see where they stand. It would be really interesting. Just an idea.
I agree with Zosek, it might help understand how everything works. Yesterday, i was teamed several matchs consecutive with/against #2 player, while i was only #700 or so.
Now , the #2 has 2 wins, 3 loses and still got +2 ranks over these games.. Am i missing something or …? If you’re on the top of ladder, wins should be like +1 and loses like -3
It is nice and all that Justin is manually adjusting things, but let’s face the truth:
If that matchmaking system was ANY good, he wouldn’t need to adjust specific players MMRs.
It just goes to show exactly how bad this is going.

Where did he say that he’s manually adjusting MMRs?
I think he means that he’s looking for overall system adjustments…

I feel like im being matched with people under my skill level compared to the players i played with in solo queue. Its starting to get too frustrating to bother playing. I get players trying to kill beast when we are 2 capped or 3 capped, people continuously rushing far dying over and over not learning they cant take it. Players that refuse to follow a leader if you try and are for some odd reason offended that you try giving commands that could win the match, and it happens way more often then you would assume.
Every once in awhile i get a good team and its a fun match. but a lot of the wins im getting now don’t feel rewarding and losses are always going to feel like complete kitten even if you try to negate them meaning anything. Losing will always feel terrible, removing the leaderboard penalty will not help that for most players

I’m not sure either, I forgot to mention I won another good 5, 6ish matches when the leaderboards were down. Not sure if that could have caused anything (doubt it). My overall ranked won vs ranked loss is 56% but lately has been really low I’m guessing around a 20/30ish %. I’m thinking the whole mini llama thing has attracted a lot of pvers and made veterans feel a need to team up to win or I could just be losing my touch. /shrug I do appreciate your reply though, Thanks!
