Matchmaking MMR
Nah. Not gonna bother.
You win some, you lose some.
It all comes down to how many necros / burn guards / bunkers / thieves one team was lucky / unlucky enough to get.
It did seem better after the patch. Tonight it’s worse than ever, though. Crazy class stacking, stronger comps losing by 400 points, all-match home-zerging, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear some were tripping over a pebbles on the terrain and falling into downed state.

if u want to win then play with your guild (5 man stack ) solo is just having fun or testing ur build. Only an madman would play solo seriously…
I agree with Impact and OP.
In fact, bwe 3 was a blast and it felt like matchmaking was doing its job. But the last day feels like we are back to square one.
We have people queuing (more like polluting) ranked matches ONLY because they want to avoid certain unranked maps for their DAILIES. These people lack the basic fundamentals of capping and map rotations. They lack the intent or the drive to be competitive or further improve themselves. They are there to finish dailies and sadly gets teamed up with people who want to be competitive.
And to make matters worse, a mixed bag team of dailies farmers and pvp enthusiasts gets matched up against a premade. Ye gods.

Quite comical actually but still annoying
If there is one law, that it totally missunderstood its Murphy’s!

You could just be bad (not saying you are). Or you could be focused squarely on the win and not how well you played personally. So many break it down to wins and loses but I have won and felt like I put in a kitten poor effort. I have lost and felt good because I was winning my match ups. Perception is key here. I could get a great or bad team based on the stats. I rather be a great player myself win or lose.

But it doesn’t change the fact that some of us saw an improvement in matchmaking soon after the update was released. However, in the last 24hrs, noticed a decline in overall quality of matches that could be due to bad matchmaking.
The one from BW3 had better, closer matches. The one from recently were the unenjoyable, offensive, deflating type matches that are one sided.
That is due to two facts, ppl expected it to get better is the biggest one. But also keep in mind, in a sample of 10 tests you are not to far away of 50/50 in both cases. 7/3 is quite near and those are just not enough numbers to go for 1/1.
Another one from bw3. API only lists 10 matches.
Matches were more consistent during the event and the day or two prior. Teammates knew what to do, we were playing like premades on some solo queue matches.
Then it got weird all of the sudden. Maybe when they did the Tuesday update, matchmaking was reverted back to its old self. Sounds unlikely but still a possibility.
Ok, this is now 7/3 in the other direction and you feel fine about it. You know there is someone with 3/7 in the other direction. Also during weekend and esp. beta weekends there are more players to make good matches.
The matches (team scores) were closer which meant teams were on equal footing unlike the recent streak I was in.
I’m currently at 10 losses in a row. On three of them I was being a noobie and was no wonder we lost, but in seven of them I felt I was MMR’d with monkeys. Like in example I’m the only one caring about the buffs in temple, I get the stillness but get killed alone at tranquillity, after that the pugs can’t recover the points since they keep zerging mid. It’s basically been like that for the whole day
Lol I know pimsley is a competent pvper. But I want to add that maybe the imbalanced team scores could also come from a few 4v5/someone AFK/RQ.
Right?
That scorecard looks really bad

It’s one thing to lose a lot. It’s another to have team mates not having any game sense, double caping empty points and generally being awful. It’s crazy the swing of opponents I experience. I wish I had a number to say what my mmr was….

The problem isn’t losing. Losing is merely a result. The issue is the quality of the match. I play to play, and I like to play, and when I get to play and lose it’s still fun. But if you have bunkers that want to solo beast on forest, then cry when everyone dies at mid before he gets there, and people who die 2v4 on mid because you did a 3 point split but one guy went to beast and they didn’t think "4 of them here, out numbered 2 to 1, fight lost already, time to rotate out. Oh look, we have sides, let’s split to sides." You might win your match far, or manage to decap it so you have close, lost mid, decapped or capped far, but then you have +2 turning it into a 3v1 so you leave, your respawns go to close and lose again because the bunker decided despite needing to regroup and defending close achieves that and another objective, and despite there being 3 enemy players around far, to go take their beast to be "useful" while waiting for the team to respawn. It of course gets stolen, and it of course is his team’s fault for dying and not helping him PvE. The rest of the match is you running between points with 2-3 chasing you, trying to decap something to keep your team in the game while they insist on snowballing close until the end. I don’t consider this playing, therefore it’s not fun.
I had one alright match all night, and I still left it annoyed because first 3 guys kept trying to kill a bunker necro on close, on his capped point and dying, but not getting smart and thinking let’s go try somewhere else, and second after they listened to me and we started to come back a bit, the ranger went back to close and despite 2 of us constantly telling him not to, continued to 1v1, die, respawn, try again, die, respawn, try again, for the entire second half of the match. He was also the only other source of spike damage besides myself, which we needed combined vs that particular composition. I literally, 100% honestly died, at mid, with all my CDs, toward the end of the match just because they got both sides again, I looked map and saw the ranger STILL suiciding, and went to type something, but couldn’t. I didn’t do anything. I couldn’t think of what to say, I was that stunned. Struck with sudden and complete despair at my fellow human being. Experiencing that level of dimwit, is not fun either.

Everyone gets losing streaks sometimes. Just had one yesterday 5 losses in a row, then proceeded to win 3/4 of the following matches with the loss being 474-500. Don’t have a recording, but from what it looked like, our team rushed lord “too early” (perhaps it was the best/only window), killed it without the necessary 350+, with me attempting to hold our caps.
During Beta, it’s probably due to a lot more people playing during that “special” weekend window. Larger pool of players = better matches.

Scores are more balanced for me since latest patch however…people aren’t and that can’t really be changed. lol
One wouldn’t believe how many dragon ranks are around in unraked that apparently have no clue of what to do: go fight off of the points when belongs to the other team; 3 of them go home at the beginning; keep charging and die to that build that is obvious a hard counter to theirs and hardly listen to any advise or tactic. All is doomed!! :P
So yeah, as pointed out, team comp and skills could be the reason of the blown outs match ups as well isn’t just the numbers fault.

Match making has been much better since the patch. I’ve been hitting 50% wins or slightly higher on every night since the patch. Though there was one night… that the system gave me 8 losses in a row. I’d like to stress my usage of the word gave. These weren’t close matches nor were they balanced in any way. It was a classic night of Guild Wars 2 bad matching making where the server flags your account to be repeatedly thrown with very low MMR players against teams of people who are clearly try hard older veterans. So I’m not sure why this seems to be still be happening but it does to be tracked and documented. My feedback thread is here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/MMR-algorithm-post-9-29-2015-feedback/first#post5578559
~ Also, refrain from the replies “maybe your teammates weren’t as bad as you think” because you can rest assured that a player with 6000+ matches knows when he’s being server stacked with novice players against much much older more experienced players.

I find the matchmaking feels unchanged to me. I basically change off each day to either winning or losing witch just leaves me frustrated. Feels like I’m on a mmr wave. Also when your team has 2 thieves and they have 3 necros you’re not going to win there needs to be some hard rules about certain class comps
Matchmaking still the same..dunno why they even bother lying..
I’m quite happy with these weeks matches. I played every day 10-15 matches, solo or in small teams with 60-70% win rate. I played thief and switched to ele if there was another thief in my team. The only thing which bothered me yesterday was two matches with an afk guy in it. That’s something which must be addressed by anet.

That player is anything but bad I assure you. He swaps classes at the beginning of matches to help balance out comps and rotates points like a madman. I know because he was active during test ladder seasons and I’d get teamed with or against him. If he was placed with a team of imbeciles, there isn’t much he or anyone else in his position could do.

If there were no match making at all and someone losses 10 in a row then yes he/she must be bad player. The WHOLE pt of match making is to match you vs similar skilled players no matter how good or bad you are. So even if you are in the last 5% of players in terms of skill you should still never lose over and over because competent match making would have matched you with other players who are just as bad and give you around 50% win rate.

You failed at understanding how matchmaking really works as it was explained by the devs. Unfortunately your false perception of how matchmaking functions doesn’t apply.
I read first and try to understand the situation before posting hastily.
I looked thru that person’s attached images and when matchmaking worked during BW3, he had an almost 70%win rate and the matches looked fair because the team scores were close.
When that person linked the image during the bad streak of losses, the team scores looked like an absolute failed mismatch, like he was placed with a team full of F2P people going after dailies…which in my opinion, isn’t fair.
His bad streak of losses ALSO happened around the same time as it did some of posters on this thread.
Mogar makes a great point and this is why so many people are concerned enough to post in this forum concerning freak lose streaks of 10+ matches in a row.
I should also point out that since the patch, every player who has actually tracked their matches win/lose rates are all saying that the match making IS BETTER than it was before.
Mogar is a good Mesmer and same for Vapour on his necro. Lol I have been teamed up with them in the past when solo queueing.
Getting put in a bad streak would sometimes make me question my abilities. It’s like, I know I’m not that bad coz I’ve been doing this for 3 years. More than anything, I think a system that puts people in a long streak of losses is mean and cruel. It really is, I don’t know how else to put it.
Instead of rewarding the veteran solo q players, they punish them so the newer players could catch up and the entire pool of pvp players would contribute towards a 50% win even though there is a huge difference in skill amongst participants.
Edit: Let’s be nice to one another and unite against this freak matchmaking beast that kills our enjoyment of the game

See, if I know a player is good and someone says they are bad, I try to defend them because people on the forum have bad opinions or little knowledge about things. So if someone says you’re a bad Mesmer, I will correct them
I don’t even know why I’m bothering with this post, but whatever. This game’s MM is straight trash when it comes to solo. Removing soloq was one of the worst possible decisions Anet has ever made when it comes to pvp. Soloq was more popular than teamq, yet it was removed because high ranked teams had nobody to farm anymore, so they combined the player base, but that’s a different story and I digress. If you have somewhat a high MMR and solo, you just constantly get screwed over; apparently there was a bug causing this and it was fixed, but I have yet to see it. However, I’ve got to the point of not caring anymore; I don’t expect anything when I solo anymore. Like others have said, you win some and you lose some, it’s best to take that advice if you want to stay sane.
Oh here are my last ten matches, this is pretty much a daily trend for me.

I’m glad you bothered to post. We are hoping this gets attention. Matchmaking improved for a bit but then it went back to its lazy self and took a siesta.
You cant stay sane expecting to win some and lose some if you have a higher MMR. You win some and lose lots is a more appropriate expectation.

Or.. to quote a famous german soccer trainer:
“Sometimes one loses and sometimes the other win..”
It’s so weird how we are put in win/loss streaks like the matches are already pre-determined when there aren’t that many people queueing.
I’m going to throw out a wild theory. Lets start with the following assumptions and 1 fact.
Assumption 1 : Anet is not trying to screw over solo players on purpose by placing us in bad matches over and over.
Assumption 2: Anet does use a match making algorithm that’s bases on individuals MMR
Fact: knowing the above we still get long streaks of winning and losing matches. So this lead to the following conclusions:
1 The way MMR is calculated is flawed, it doesn’t reflect the skill of a player good enough to let match making make even matches.
or
2 The match making algorithm is flawed , it is not using mmr in an effective enough way to make good matches
3 The game is simply too chaotic , a small change in an even match will define the out come of a match at certain skill level. for example blue team lands 1 lucky hit with treb and killed 4/5 players on red team in mid at the start of the match .
or
A combo of all 3.
Anyhow I hope Anet hear the message in this thread and try to improve match making more.
All solo, all ranked. 3 of those matches had disconnects and/or major lag.
It was rubberband city for people living in certain areas it seemed.
I think that may have seriously thrown off matchmaking.
Overall, at least for me, it generally feels balanced playing from 6-9 eastern. Any other time, or weekends… Not so much.
I used to laugh at these kinds of threads. I seriously thought people were exaggerating. I don’t know if my MMR has gone up recently or something, but I am finding that I increasingly get matched with people who are brand new to their professions (or even to PvP in general). I primarily play unranked since the que time seems to be a few minutes shorter.
I haven’t had a close match in a long time. It’s always a stomp, one way or the other. Winning in this fashion is not satisfying, and losing in it is demoralizing. I frequently see people who don’t even know what their downed skills do!
In line with what others in this thread have said, I have especially noticed this in the last couple of days. I’ve actually taken to suffering through the longer que times in ranked since the games I play there are usually at least reasonably close. Though, this is probably because of it being a separate MMR and me not having played enough games of it yet.
Was going to attach a picture, but GW2 Efficiency just treats the pic as a link to the site….

Ranked is definitely more consistent. As for people playing unfamiliar professions, I blame dailys, I’m guilty of this whenever guardian isn’t one of them needed for a win
