All of this assumes 35% of the profit went somewhere else (development, etc.) These number could be, and most likely is probably close to double my calculations. These numbers are straight up profit, development and other things are already taken into consideration in the 35% figure.

We can assume they take home about 30% of the value of the game.

3.5mm units x $60 = $210,000,000.00

Below assumes they just take 30%, and the retailer still takes their 20%

$210,000,000 × 30% = $63 million dollars

Below assumes 50% of the retailer sales is given to publisher because of downloads eliminating their “middle man”

$210,000,000 × 40% = $84 million dollars

Tell me again why it takes forever to fix simple things in this game?

I have read your glassdoor reviews, and the pay is paltry at best, so it isn’t your operating budget. Maybe you are just squandering our resources away?

If throwing money at things fixed them instantly, we’d be living in a different world.

yea, showing indignant outrage on the gaming forum. surefire way to hurt the feelings of whomever is draining tens of millions out of the games development cycle. im sure that person cares a lot about the games success, and is in no way just looting the place before moving on to the next company.

Throwing money at simple things does fix them, clearly you are still a student and have never actually had money before.

So if I break up with my girlfriend, throwing money at her would work?

Divinity read their glass door reviews.

You’re right, throwing money at problems, especially coding problems, can be alarmingly unhelpful. You’re stuck waiting for one brain to figure how all the peices will fit together, and only then can you delegate.

But it sounds like anet is losing employees for a number of reasons that CAN be fixed with money, and in software development, a lost employee is a pretty big potential set back.

Additionally, Evan has been credited with a few too many accomplishments. What I mean here is: Why wasnt another person working on problem b, c, d… while Evan tackled A? Instead we just waited for a short eternity for him to work his way down the stack, apparently.

This whole viewpoint is flawed as hell. We are few because PvP developement got nearly 0 resources, not because PvP is perfect but people left due to some miracle and further developement stopped..

well, the mmo pvp community… is actually sort of small compared to the mmo pve community… so unless were poaching moba players, the logic isnt so flawed.

They likely have a number of their people working on behind-the-scenes bigger things. For example, custom arenas and spectator mode probably took a lot of coding. The new rewards system is probably taking a ton too. So while Evan is a bit more public and getting recognition (which is awesome), its very likely that others are still putting in work, but they are doing projects that don’t get the kind of big support that Evan’s might.

TL;DR – Evan is the quarterback, all the other programmers are line-men. Or if you’re not American, Evan is the striker, everyone else are defenders.

spvpwes are a small number due to the incompetence of the pvp devs and wrong decisions by the ppl in charge, nothing to do with money.

How much did the game take to develop? About 100-150 million dollars?

How many employees do they have? About 300? How much do they cost a year? Not to mention all the operating costs and such.

I don’t think ANet has many resources as we think they do. For all we know they could still be in the red.

One word: NCSoft.

this, the game’s profits go to the publisher -NCsoft.
Publisher backs original project (they paid the $100-$150 million it took for gw2 to get made), then funds future ventures of the studio if studio can convince that those ventures will turn a profit.

Neglekt

A large portion of the people at launch, I’d even dare to say, a near majority of people who own this game right now bought it with PvP in mind.

GW2 PvP sucks though so most people just left, or PvE’ed.

k giving evan code monnkeys to do his bidding would be a good way to throw some money at this.

im actually under the impression that he’s just soloing this kitten, or close to. I dont see them announcing features and saying ‘evan and our programming team’ … they just say evan, which usually means it’s just evan. unless theyre awful about giving credit in streams.
