Hello,

so is it still the case that warriors are better? Havent really followed the latest trends, so I thought its worth asking. I dont mean an all-out dps build, but something like this. Maybe with a Valkyrie or Cavalier amulet? o.O

Or should I just simply forget it? Does the current state of the game allow to take this as a reasonable idea at all? Or no tweaking can bring a mediguard close to warriors?

Warriors Hambow/Shoutbow take more skill than right Guards now because their skills are much harder to land. So most of the time, if you’re new to the game, you’re going to want to play Medi Guard.

Warrior still the better class for when you are good at this game though.

Neither Warrior or DPS guardian is that hard to play.

Warrior would be generally easier and more effective for a new player. It’s also more viable at high tiers. Medi-Guards generally beat Warriors in duels due to their numerous blocks and blinds but Warrior brings more in a team setting.

Hambow is much better in pvp than a med Guard. More sustain, CC, utility, and sustain dps. Med Guard is decent if you want to bring burst. However, when it comes to overall usefulness, War is much better than a med Guard.

Weeelll….

…you will hit the cap on warrior very early because, essentially warrior is about

A Landing attacks
B Managing pressure through a gradual health recovery system

Point B is common amongst all ‘viable’ bruiser builds, because as soon as you run something that relies on hard, lengthy cooldowns for sustain it polarises its viability towards max dps (ie needs to provide significant team fight contribution/1v1 burst before cooldown expiration and forced disengage). This of course makes classes like meditation* guard unsuitable for the roll of a bruiser which, in a celestial might stacking meta, wins 1v1s and 2v2s.

Point A actually makes warrior less viable at higher levels. Telegraphed attacks can be evaded and outplayed. Thats not a good thing, however s/w LB warrior has the least hard-to-land skills of any warrior build.

Also as an aside to these warrior fanboys s/w shouts is an old build in tpvp, its just that with a shaman (yes guys, shaman) amulet it was more a brick wall troll build, (lacked dps pre-celestial). And with rabid it lacked sustain and any real use for the prec…

The only argument for shout warrior being ‘high skill cap’ is that, frankly, its just not that good a build compared to ele/engi.

That’s not high skill cap though; that’s a handicap. There’s a difference.

There was a time on warrior when landing burst skills contribited significantly to their ability to mitigate (strength 15), but that time is over.

Guardian is a far more rewarding profession to improve on because it has active, reactive and single attack damage mitigation, with more reactive ‘hard’ mitigation from shelter/renewed focus. It’s balanced around mitigation, not counterpressure/absorbing attacks then cleansing/disengaging.

Cele ele is shutting medi guard out of the meta sadly. Everything else is managable, but d/d makes them unviable on the whole.

So yeah neither right now (I think theres a different guard build out there that could be very viable, but its not been streamed yet). If I had to choose between medi and shout war however, personally, it would be guard every time :p

I suppose you’ve never played Frenzy + Zerk Stance builds.

That’s your loss though.

medi guard should win if you two are both equally skilled.

I play medi guard and I find that 1v1 I beat hambow wars most of the time (and I consider myself a fairly average PvPer – not hardcore by any means). Medi guard can get the bursts in before hambow wars really have the time to be fatal.

That being said, I get trounced by celementalists

My frand Nimrud you can’t really compare the two! Medi Guardians fulfill the role that Thieves do but not as well! It’s a fragile burst build that gets melted by conditions! Meanwhile both hambow and celestial shout Warriors are extremely tanky and can contest the point, stomp downed baddies, revive teammates, and do other things that beefy builds do! If you try to do any of those things as a Meditations Guardian you will asplode! So pick a role! Do you want to be a boring beefcheeser on point, or do you want burst people down with the awesome fiery might of a Medi Guard!

dps guard is better against thieves and certain class builds but has some glaring weaknesses that warrior doesn’t have, which makes warrior always the safer choice.

I’ll vote this one for best answer. Both classes have relatively low skill caps compared to some other classes (even if some other classes can do well without the player understanding it that well). Warrior, however, generally brings more to a team setting though. Sadly, meditation builds are lack so much of the great team utility that other non-meditation skills provide.

Thx Vee Wee, but I suggested a more tanky build for medi guard than the usual zerker in my OP. You know… the one that does not asplode so easily. But meanwhile in my 5 month-long hesitation I’ve finally come to a conclusion: I’ll stick to ele and engie for point contesting, and to my thief for doing the dirty job. (Maybe there’ll be a time for bunker guards sometime in the future.) Warrior is just too simple for me. (I do realize that even on warrior there is a lot to learn if I want to be good, but I’d rather learned something more tricky than hambow.) And a medi guard just cant be turned into a hambow, no matter the tweaking…

So thief, ele, and engie. I think I’m settled now with these. (Mesmer maybe has a slight chance.)
