Merging PVP servers (EU,NA,US)
Oh the lagfest
/charz
Because Americans playing on European servers would have about 2 additional seconds of delay (ping) and vice versa.
I play on US server and i do just fine
Currently, just the EU tournaments are a complete lagfest.
I don’t even want to think about what a merged server would be like.

Newsflash, you aren’t everyone, people have different qualities of internet connection / service, which is largely down to where they live (city vs village for instance, or how far your house is from an exchange), hence regionalized servers do in fact make a big difference for many people, which is why we have them in the first place.

Exaggerate much? Only if you have a very bad connection you would have +2000ms to European servers. Usually it’s around +80ms for people living in the East Coast and +160ms for people in the West Coast. That is 0.08 or 0.16 seconds delay.
I asked a dev this question and basically they said they would like to but currently not an option because of lag.
I dont think we need to have the NA mist to be merged with EU mist, but what i would prefer is just the chance to group up with EU players and actually play tournaments with them.
This would be great cause i’m italian but i’m playing in NA server cause my guild is international, mostly from US, but as for now i have no way to play pvp with eu ppl.
Maybe this could be introduced with guest option…

Though it isn’t quite as simple as just looking at the average ping, for example I used to play LOTRO, on EU servers my average ping was 60, they then moved all servers to NA (Boston), my average ping went to about 120-150, which on the surface is fine.
However with the NA servers, I got a lot more lag spikes (1000ms+), and started getting packet loss so the server would end up not recieving a packet and think I am in a different postion to what the client does, or would nto fire a skill, etc.
Now whilst these things only happened occasionally it was enough to stop me from playing the game, dying in PvP due to a lag spike, missing an interupt in a raid, etc were too annoying and that is as someone in the UK, people further away / with more hubs to go through had it worse, Polish guys in our guild sometimes had up to 20% packet loss.

My reasoning behind all this was : if Eve Online servers can cope with 100+ people in same location having large battles, surely GW2 servers can cope with 16 people doing just fine .
But since i don’t now much about how servers work it was merely an idea for us to discuss. No need to rage about it…
Mists are server-specific. It isn’t merged by region. Each server has its own Mists.
When you queue for a tournament or hot join, then the matchmaking is server-merged.
