I see a lot of complaints about this, and I wanted to post a fix that I think would meet everyone half way. Keep the portals and the distance and so on but make portals targetable and killable. More strategy = more fun. Yes/no?

If you could target a portal before it activated and kill it. Sure.

If you couldn’t kill it until it was activated, then no. Considering you only need it open for a second.

The only way to balance portal, is to remove it from PvP. It’s just far too strong when used properly. I don’t understand why it’s in the game….

maybe use it as advantageously as the mesmers do??

If you know where the exit portal is…camp it and kill the first thing that comes out of it???

I’m just saying, everytime a mesemr used portal and got smashed in the face as soon as he ported, a lot less of this would happen (assumimg, of course, you can get to the exit portal because its not behind a door or gate).

Teviko, I’m not sure you understand how portal is used in PvP.

The mesmer isn’t the only person going through them. Camping the exit is a great way to find youself in a 1v3+

What’s to stop the mesmer just casually going back through the portal?

I don’t think anyone can deny that portals are OP in tourneys, especially when one team is using them and the other isn’t. @defektive ya that’s my idea. Portals should be targetable after the mesmer drops the first one. Example: Mesmer gets henge, lays portal, and starts to leave. You walk up to henge, notice the portal there, and take it out ASAP so that their whole team can’t immediately zerg you from keep/etc. I think this would fix a lot of the complaints about portal being OP (don’t try to deny it, it is). May also force Mesmers to use a different utility if people start getting strategical with killing portals. Just my opinion.

He can, if he wants to get jumped on the opposite side…he probably portaled because there was a few too many on the other side, or was checking on the node he just left. Either way, ifyou make him run, the node is yours, until he comes back or he comes back with buddies.

Portals don’t last forever.

Besides, if you’re camping the exit you either aren’t doing an objective or you’re on the point already and the group of enemies on the other side of the portal are going to come through and murder you regardless.

I personally think portals should have two versions, stable and unstable, the stable version remains the same as the current portal but when the two sides of the portal are beyond a certain distance from each other they become unstable and become less effective.

Don’t know exactly what the unstable would do but it’d have to address the current problem of large groups of enemies travelling from one point to another and the Mesmer being able to go between two points with ease; perhaps limited uses, shorter duration and/or restricting use to only the Mesmer.
