Some of you have observed that sometimes when the Mesmer downstate teleport takes you apparently out of range of the initial stomp, you get stomped anyway.

In at least some of these situations, the stomper may be using a teleport to complete the stomp. It works like this:
If the Mesmer hits 2 too early, the Mesmer will be visible at the teleported location before the stomper’s stomp animation has finished. The stomper, who has been watching for where the Mesmer teleported to, uses Blink or a similar skill to teleport to the Mesmer’s new location mid-stomp, and successfully finishes the stomp.

I have never experienced that, every time it happens to me the person doing the stomp DOESNT move. However if their is a problem with that it needs to be fixed using a teleport mid Stomp SHOULD break it and make them start from the start.

Again, a thief-specific downing issue. If it isn’t stealth-stoping crazyness its Steal’s port-stomping crazyness. We should just rename thief to “Troll” and be done with it. lol

That still doesnt get around the fact that its the MESMER downstate #2 that has the issues. They should NOT become useless against a class, Ability or Spec. That goes for everyone elses as well. Sure Conditions and Boons but NO way should some of them be countered by Stealth which is seriously messed up with the Culling issues and everything.

None of the Other Downstate #2 relies on LUCK for it to actually work. Sure some can be countered by Conditions and Boons but when other classes use them are they thinking “god i hope it doesnt teleport me right next to where i am already” or saying “God i hope it decides to work this time”

It IS the most unreliable downstate in the game. I think Ele though very strong is balanced, They are meant to delay getting “Finished” some of them do this, some of them dont Mesmer one IF you got ported a proper distance and not right where you were and it stopped the Finish (just like the Thief one does!) then it would be fine, Except…

- You can use the Port and be behind them and in Stealth and STILL get killed when they finish the stomp

- You can port right next to yourself and get killed when they finish current stomp

- You can port right next to where you were and not get killed when they finish the stomp

Its just to Unreliable and THAT is the biggest weakness of it, when it works its strong when it doesnt work its useless.

Played my mesmer for the first time in a few months to test this. After 3 hours of play, both in sPvP and tournament, I had this happen once. It’s my opinion that it is NOT the most unreliable interrupt in the game and is actually pretty friggin good. I think you’re blowing how many times the useless teleport actually happens out of proportion. This is coming from a “god, I hope I get invisibility instead of stability” engineer. You think you’re praying for skills, roll an engi lol

Thats what i mean its LUCK. I have had it work correctly all match some times and then never work correctly in other matches. THAT is the issue with it. Of course i dont want a Thief downstate, something like Warrior or Ele which i think work well, they delay death for that few extra seconds and thats what it should be.

It should NOT be use #2 and get teleported a few centimeters to your left….

Yeah, but it’s something that’s superior to 90% of classes downstates 95% of the time. Of all the things in this game that someone could possibly demand change for, I guess I never thought that mesmer downstate ability 2 would be one of them.

No one is demanding anything – i know it wont be fixed, i know what Anet are like when it comes to fixing issues. 90%? Not a chance, when it works its about 4th i would say behind ele, Thief and Warrior in my opinion and when it doesnt work its behind Thief, ele, warrior and guardian

So the whole point of this thread is….

The same as everyone else that makes posts about about issues/bugs and everything else, partly to vent and partly to hope that maybe SOME day Anet will do something about it

It is one of the better ones….WHEN it works properly. I would take Warrior one anyday as that one works like it should EVERY time, no need to hope that it works and that it wont port you right next to where you were.

If you would be succesful in having Anet swap your #2 with something similar to Warrior, the mesmer communty would hate you so bad.

Do you realize, that even if it’s not 100% reliable, your #2 is like twice as effective as Warrior hammer?

You will miss what? 5% of the time?Thats 95% garranted interrupt.

Warrior will be blinded, stealth stomped, stability stomped, mini stomped, invul stomped, multi stomped (from multiple players) how many times? like at least 50% of the time?

Mesmer : SAFE interrupt 95% of the time.
Warrior : Reliable interrupt which will be effective 50% of the time.

I’M sure other then thief and elem, all the other class would take your number 2 over there. Who care if it doesn’t work 5-10% of the time? It still better then what we have!

Its more then 5%, I would say its more like 50-50, its all random one minute it will work others it will not and then theres the times using it teleports INTO AOE and such as well

Had my mes in PvP since launch, play it hardly ever now, but I used to play it often. I ran into this problem maybe 10-15 times during the entire span of the game.

Had my mes in PvP since launch, play it hardly ever now, but I used to play it often. I ran into this problem maybe 10-15 times during the entire span of the game.

I know people that experience it and i know people that hardly experience, that is coz its LUCK. I have ported away from being stomped only to be ported INTO AoE and killed quite a few times.

I experience it on a daily basis. So do people that i have spoken to, i have spoken to some that rarely experience it. That does not mean it doesnt happen

I have been playing since release, and it happened 3-4 time at most!

I fail to see how it could be 50-50? Maybe it’s only an issue happening to you? Maybe you should make a ticket.

And by the way, when I finish my finisher, it’s usually because the mesmer used it too early and spawned next to me.

Only way to stomp a Mesmer is to stomp, interupt stomp, restomp, and hope they come out of stealth somewhere nearby so you can get it off. Warriors hahaha. Pop blind, aegis, stability or just multi stomp and it’s guaranteed. Not to mention hammer has the easiest to see and longest cast time of all 2 skills. Honestly warriors are he easiest in the game to stomp so if you wanna trade the 2nd best downed 2 skill for that; please be my guest.

This skill is in need of fixing, Its useless against Thiefs seeing as they 99% of the time go stealth when they try to finish you thus it cant be used, Think Engineers or Rangers have a stealth option as well.

As an engineer main player I would happily exchange your “buggy” down state #2 with the engineer down state #2, grapping line. Oh, “it is so powerful” In fact I think any engineer would happily exchange mesmer downed states with engineer ones.

Mesmers have one of the best downed states in the game. And yet they complain!

yeah Mesmer downed state 2 is pretty tricky, you gotta use it fast against thieves with a common sense. I think its fine the way it is, all classes are on a even foot when talking about downed state.

Engineer downed state #3 is my favorite one.

Also if you could pick where you moved to, you would be basically kittenting on thieves downed state 2 and 3 at same time, because Mesmer downed state 2 does basically that except you don’t chose where you get ported too.

Yes it sucks, but theres a counter to pretty much every downed state or a trick, like thief shadowstepping to your new location while in the finisher. Or people blinding engineer downed 2. Only downed state that will take a bit is ele downed #2, but I don’t see that as a huge difference. Because other classes can help in a fight by interrupting while the ele downed 2 does nothing but move, same with other classes downed 2.

Its all fair, this is one of the things they actually did right.

It seems unfair to me how the classes that have downed abilities that are unaffected by stability (thieves, mesmer, ele) also get easy access to stealth, invulnerability or stability that makes stomping much easier. It really bugged me on my engi and my necro they could have designed this with a little more insight and planning.

Those are not engineer downed skills. In fact you gotta use two utility skill slots (elixir R and bomb kit) to have those.

The fact remains: engineer downed skill #2, grappling line, is the worst joke in this game and mesmer #2, deception, is far better.

I’m not sure if the Mesmer complaining about down #2 have realized you can activate the skill whenever you want. besides Ele, mesmer is the only other class that can successively avoid stomps, they can survive blocks/blinds/teles at least once.

as for stealth stomps… guardian is the only one who can avoid those. JS :-).. mesmer can actually use their #2 on someone else and still advoid stomps.. as en engi, we can only bring someone else to help thief stomp us faster. CHEAA!

There’s no doubting the skill is good as it is, but it could stand for some quality of life improvements. Namely less RNG (which direction & how far you travel can vary a ridiculous amount), not allowing us to glitch passed terrain (I escape way too often by suddenly being passed a wall where no one could ever possibly find me.. unintentionally overpowered in this way), and (this is debatable) not requiring a target to use it. I’d be okay if they completely removed the stealth or clone aspect from it if they let us cast it when we can’t target an enemy, because that’s just anti-fun and slightly luck-based, depending whether or not an enemy is around.

You can’t use stability against a thief….And I love when I have to stomp a mes/thief/ele… you know why? Ele’s can’t be ressed while in mist from and they (mes/thief/ele) don’t force me to blow a cooldown to get the stomp in.. I hate trying to stomp guards/rangers/necros/ and esp warriors… Because if the warrior got me somewhat low then he can pop vengeance and face roll me since he is invuln for the next 5 of the 15 seconds… Simple some classes make you use cooldowns to get the stomp… others just slightly annoy you to get the stomp… I’ll take the slightly annoyed also its funny when peoples teammates try and res the clone not the mes (has happened to me before….)

I have a solution for you:

Don’t use your number 2 just as he is stomping you, but when he is finishing it. It will not only buy you time, as it will prevent the teleport but still get stomped thing.

Agreed, but ele is the only class unstompable on the first try. You can hit a thief with a teleport stomp everytime on the first try.

Threads like these arise when people only play one class, and a Mesmer at that. If you’ve ever played an engineer in downed state you know that your dead everytime unless someone comes to help.

Thief is counterable by teleporting to him in midstomp. Mesmer isn’t counterable since the stomp WILL fail if the mesmer is still in stealth at the end of the cast. With a 3s stealth duration on his skill #2, I fail to see how it can fail if you don’t attack.

Theoretically yes. I agree that warrior hammer toss is bad as well, but generally you can at least hit one enemy with it. The engineer downed skill #2 seems to hit like once in a blue moon. If you get downed on anything else than level ground, you’re screwed as grappling line will probably miss.

I think the downed states should be more equal than they are now.

The engineer downed #2 is pretty decent but often doesn’t target correctly. I’m not completely sure what the issue is. The Mesmer downed #2 is among the elite three downed states but the RNG is a little odd.

I play engineer and I agree – the engineer 3 is nice if you manage to have enough time to be able to use it… cause it launches the enemies which also interrupts them while stomping… giving you 2 interrupts on their stomp.

I don’t think Mesmer is that strong… okay 2 teleporting him and creating the clone. Then you just run there and finish him even if he manages to use 3.

And about thief and stealth: Why can you not use it if thief is using stealth? Shouldn’t it just be possible to use 2 without target(if thief is stealthed)? I mean isn’t it just creating that clone and teleporting you? I’m not playing Mesmer… don’t know about this. But shouldn’t it be like this? Not that it requires a target since it is not attacking like for example the 2 of engineer which needs to target because it is attacking the guy trying to finish you.

Thief is okay. I also think some people use stability. They need to use their skills which have cds to get that stability and for engineeer against thief if more people are fighting and you have enough time to use 3 you can use 3 which is aoe-like against the thief I think. Okay Mesmer doesn’t have something like that but it’s not a 1 vs. 1 game.

You have a BIG arrow on a downed mesmer head, and people (mainly bloodthirsty warriors) still fail to finish the real one. Facepalm situations.
