Mesmer in spvp
Dude, it is very hard to win mesmer in 1on1 battle.
Play a mesmer for 3 months. Then come back to this thread and post about mesmers being OP.

(When a class can be good enough that one player can’t defeat it, its a indicator it’s to strong)
At least in GW1, they had cool tools like they do now, but they didn’t burst 15k health with 2 phantasm almost instantly. All in One – OP
Can remove condition while reflecting conditions? What the hell are you smoking? Mesmer condi removal is worst in game by far… And any “reflects” we have are projectile only… We can not Randomly gain protection unless we have signet of inspiration which is a rarity in pvp or chaos armor which is a bright purple bubble. The only time we actually gain protection is if we have chaos armor up or we are traited for it… In which case we won’t be doing all that much damage….. Mesmer is not a do everything class… I’m sorry but they really are not.

I didn’t claim Mesmer was easy to play, but that doesn’t mean its not OP. Cause it truly surely, definitely IS-Overpowered.

Your doing it wrong, and obviously there is a build you don’t know about if anyone tries to deny the things this class can do all in one. Because those ones that I run into that face roll (Yes they are very good) Do everything I said.. Every single thing , including removing conditions and putting them on the original caster.
You don’t know your own class well if you don’t know it can do this with the proper building.
(edited by LovefulfillsAll.4870)
woah woah woah let me get this straight you are telling someone who plays mesmer that he has no idea of the potential his class possesses……okay.
Edit: Also what class do you play (from there we can work a strategy)
So, without naming any particular class that I play (I play a few).
I gotta say, Mesmer is the one that irritates me the most. I cannot fight a Mesmer with a proper build and plays right.
Why can this profession with the right build seem to do everything?
~Can remove condition while reflecting the conditions back on the original caster.~25 Sec CD ranged Stun which leads up to the issue of the build where they summon two damage phantasms and do ridiculous burst damage. So even if I broke the stun with a utility I still pretty much get hit because one shoots and never misses unless you LOS it.
~A large immobile strikes me usually after or during the stun, while they use an invulnerable move during phantasm burst.
~Invulnerable moves?? (What)~ Random Boon generation, meaning they can just randomly take 33% less damage, block an entire attack. You name it.. Its passive its there, and its annoying.
~Surviving as one is funny, cause they just summon multiple clones up in between stun/burst combo if you managed to survive.
~Built in vigor on some things, making it dodge constantly
~ Stealthing – causing target drop while putting out exact replica clones and only way to tell the difference for me is when they use a specific skill the clone don’t do or back pedals
Right now I ran into a few Mesmers with a similar build and they have the whole kite and kaboodle. They survive, they burst heavily and they heal great. There is truly no disadvantage to it.
Its way to strong.
You might say I’m not good, or you could recognize that this class well played has no counter outside of being zerged by 2 or more players. (When a class can be good enough that one player can’t defeat it, its a indicator it’s to strong)
At least in GW1, they had cool tools like they do now, but they didn’t burst 15k health with 2 phantasm almost instantly. All in One – OP
P.S Dieing in ranged stun from 60%+ health is not fun
Always good to see new people in PvP^^
Let me make some things clear for you (first I’ll just go down the list you made)
1) They cannot reflect conditions, but there is a skill which isn’t very common that steals 3 boons and gives you 3 conditions. It’s called arcane thievery
2)The stun is annoying yes, but the phantasm doesn’t do an awfull lot of damage unless on glasscannons or in a phantasm build.
3)The ‘’large immobilizing strike is sword leap 3->tile switch->switch with clone immobilizing nearby targets. But it isn’t a large strike though, it only has 600 range and fails when it is used on uneven terrain, especially up. When you see a clone running at you fast you should dodge, because there will be a switch and sword 2 (the invulnerability will follow up).
4) There are 3 random boons skills: first you have chaos armor on staff 4(only procks on hit, but causes confusion/criple/blind), second you have chaos storm (aoe field which can cause some conditions but not all to you and gives boons to allies), third you have the signet (but people rarely use it though).
There is a 4th (the staff auto attack), but since it only gives might or fury I didn’t bring it up.
5) I’m not going to talk about clone summoning, since that’s mesmer allright xD
6) We have a trait that procks vigor on crit (critical infusion 5 in duelling) and a trait that gives vigor on shatter, but people rarely use that one.
7) Only stealth skills mesmers use these days are decoy and mass invisibility. But a tip when they enter stealth is to start attacking up their clones/phantasms. When you see him reappear attack him again, but watch running clones coming out of nowhere because you will have to dodge. Mass invisibility can be noticed by the actual mesmer putting his weapon high in the air for a long time
Now how do you counter them?
That depends on what kind of mesmer you are facing
shatter: dodge the running clone switch and you’re fine
phantasm: this can be a bit trickier, but you want to dodge the phantasms first attack and then go after the mesmer putting pressure on him forcing him to decoy or f4 (distortion)
condition: I’ve seen these more lately, but the best thing to do is to watch your conditions if you got heavy confusion on yourself and don’t just spam attacks.
But still the best way to know how to fight them is to play a mesmer for a while. They might seem like a huge deal but that is just an ’’illusion’’. They are quite vulnerable when you know what to do

Phantasm burst?
Protection?
Reflective/Condi reflect?
Stun?
= Phantasm build and Arcane Thievery?
K listen dude. that build is pretty much God tier 1v1 and takes little to no skill to use. Is that bull kitten? … Actually no =D
Ok well maybe a little, best option is to just not fight this 1v1. It’s a bad build in team fights and thats how it’s balanced. I know it seems a little silly but in competitive play it’s not a big deal and unless they are solo queue side point a good majority of mesmers don’t actually run this crap.
The rest of the mesmer builds are pretty strong yes but can be countered pretty well if you know how to out play them. (just don’t be a warrior when you try to do it)

Just remembered spectator mode is being implemented so just follow a mesmer and dissect everything he does.
woah woah woah let me get this straight you are telling someone who plays mesmer that he has no idea of the potential his class possesses……okay.
Edit: Also what class do you play (from there we can work a strategy)
Hey I appreciate the attempt to “work a strategy” , seems like an attempt to help but it doesn’t matter what classes I play. The thread is about Mesmer’s and their potential to build all-in-one into something overpowered.
Every build needs a downside outside of just being zerged down by 2+ players.
And no I did not claim somebody who plays Mesmer doesn’t know the potential of his class.
But if your the guy saying, but hey I can’t do X when in reality you really can, then the truth is, you don’t know your class.
Example being the guy above here talking about bad condition removal and completely unaware of the ability to put conditions from yourself onto the enemy.
Another thing, just because you play the class, does not mean you know everything about it.

He actually acknowledges the facts that are posted and are there.
The guy calling me new to pvp?
That was nothing but a big rambling post with no actual feedback on the build I am referring about.
People who like being OP or just don’t know how to play, will usually defend the class ignorantly.
Anyhow I came here with facts, and not to argue, but to state a point. So I am basically done posting now on this thread.

Dude, don’t be so aggressive
Mesmer is 1on1 OP, but in team fight mesmer is dying from condition pretty fast.
As well as there are class’s that are very bad 1vs1 fights.
The point is that this game was desing’d for team play and not solo, as it was gw1 .
Play a mesmer for 3 months. Then come back to this thread and post about mesmers being OP.
i played mostly warrior during beta.
after launch i focused on PvE,
tried sPvP for a bit as a warrior.
did not enjoy kissing the floor most of the time.
i tried out thief a bit.
then i try out mesmer.
now i play mesmer mainly.
my tactics are survival above all so i die less often.
i.e. i attempt to run away from fights that i know i cannot survive.
mesmer can die, for my case, usually when i am alone and there are more than one person focusing fire on my real mesmer body, not the clones.
wait, so this class is OP 1v1 but that’s balanced because it’s a team game therefore you have a team to kill them with?
what???
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
I apologize if I came off as rude I’m just tired and hungry atm :/

Dude… if you are referring to arcane thievery you are gimping yourself by taking this skill… Its just bad…. the range is terrible it usually misses and the cooldown is very long for what it gives…. We can reflect but only by going into that tree… Unless we are using feedback (very rarely do you see glamour Mesmer in sPvP) or wardens feedback… which is great but it only REFLECTS PROJECTILES! Not conditions princess. We can only reliably gain protection through chaos armor or traiting for it… Which once again this means that the Mesmer is not taking certain things in other trees that you are saying they can always do… See what I mean here?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I have the idea you’ve fought multiple mesmers with all a bit different builds, but because you see them doing “this” at the first mesmer and ’’that" at the second, you get a wrong picture of what a mesmer can do in one build
I’ve used that phantasm mesmer.. now im using condition warrior and can kill them just fine. Its true, if you would just use it, you will know the weakness:
1.you can easily run away from them
2.phantasm has pathing problems so go find a lower/higher ground.. a ranger did this to me.. stands on some platform where my sword phantasm cant reach
3.against phantasm mesmer its easier to identify the real one
4.LOS/blind can mes with summoning
There was a necro i couldnt beat. think it was a dagger necro with lots of cripple/chill.. and i cant cleanse them fast enough because well we have only 3 utility slot. and the standard phantasm build would take blink and decoy to mess with you/buy time to get phantasm out and the third will be signet of illusion for harder to kill phantasm. and there you have it.. stack conditions on a mesmer and he’s dead. if he has a lot of condition removal, that means he probably doesnt have blink/stealth. if you know you’re against a phantasm mesmer, use your block/invuln on the phantasm. if you’re a mesmer, do blur frenzy when the other mesmer is summoning=win. use skills tactically.. not just blow them all and hope for the best

Guys just read his post above, this guy is arrogant. I obviously seeing every1 posting feedback on the class and clearing up what he call op as misconception but what he reply was he still stand firm to his same small view of the class.
This is what he say:
He know the classes well, but he clearly show he doesn’t know the skill and build combination well enough to post the correct information.
He claim the class he’s playing doesn’t matter as mesmer is so op that it will wrack any other class.
So my thief kill mesmer all the time, does that now make my thief op.
With renegade giving all the feedback to help, he seem to ignore him and start picking on players that say that his misconception is wrong.
I am sorry, but this is clear arrogance and L2 kitten ue, mesmer is strong but not op. Don’t classify all build as one build is you can’t differentiate them.
Phantasm Build: Strong Phantasm, strong 1v1 as they only need to focus on buying time to survive while their Phantasm melt you.
Shatter Build: Widely used in tpvp for its utilities, and as a team player. Deal good dmg if manage to land shatter which reap boons of opponent and can try to buy some time with active mitigation till backup.
Condition Mesmer: There are a few build out there and their a bit more tanky, just watch out for confusion so that you don’t melt yourself away.
WannaBe Bunker: Mesmer sadly can bunker well, but the immortal mesmer is quite a good build by Pyroatheist.9031, just watch out for retaliation.
Learn to differentiate, listen to feedback and open to discussion before calling something op.

Yup, sounds like this build. It’s definitely good for messing around, I run it in WvW for solo-duo roaming, since I just love that side of WvW.
It’s not good in team fights though, just because your Phantasms get stomped the moment you put them out and you can’t really port into zerg for Blurred Frenzy burst either.
Basically it is a loner duelist type of a build really, just like Thieves for example.
I play a phantasm mesmer myself and am just within striking distance of r40. And I have to admit…it’s definitely a bit OP.
Those who say “Oh it’s only great in 1v1s” don’t realize that for some people, losing 1v1 matters more to them than losing the match. It’s humiliating – especially when you feel it was because of the build and not due to skill. You don’t feel bad if you lose the match because it’s a team effort. Being beaten 1v1 is all on you. Your fault entirely.
As a phantasm mesmer, my only trouble comes from another phantasm mesmer (and if I’m not careful, a shatter mes). In these fights it’s all about who gets the drop on whom. I try and open with my ranged stun and whoever manages to pull out the first two phantasms on the right mesmer is essentially the winner.
There is literally no build I have met that can withstand a phant mesmer. No thief, no necro, no guardian, warrior, or ele. There might be one I haven’t met or no one has discovered yet though…
But the OP is wrong about having tons of condi removal. It’s all about not letting those conditions get onto you in the first place. Let your clones face the heat!
But to the main point – I don’t think it’s fair that any one build should ever completely dominate almost every other. Regardless of what you may think, 1v1 matters. It matters to the player experiencing it. Far more than mere match winning/losing.
Btw, this build is also awesome for farming rank points in hotjoins. When I tPvP I prefer pyro’s immortal build. Though if there are already a lot of bunkers, then the phant mesmer is perfect for huge dps and downing the enemy’s bunkers.
What many of you need to remember is that the Mesmer is Arenanet’s “Love Child” Class. It was the iconic PvP class from Guild Wars and was an absolute terror to attempt to fight in that game. Mesmers in Guild Wars basically did not allow you to do much of anything while they burned your energy and health away from you. They could punish you for using skills, they could punish you for NOT using skills, and their primary attribute of “Fast Casting” meant they could get all of their skills off before any of yours.
With the background and history from Guild Wars, I am not surprised at all that Arenanet designed the Mesmer in Guild Wars 2 to also be king/queen of the PvP environment. Except of course this time around you are allowed to use your skills, you will just keep missing the target due to all the target drops the Mesmer has while at the same time take massive amounts of damage for attempting to use said skills on the Mesmer.
To quote the great Inigo Montoya with Arenanet’s views on “balance”:
‘You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.’
Thanks.

~Can remove condition while reflecting the conditions back on the original caster.
~Built in vigor on some things, making it dodge constantly
…they heal great.
If you’re talking about tpvp mesmers then all i can say is…lol, because yeah we all run arcane thievery in our 10 spaces utility bar, along with a full set of healings, portal, some of those unknown uber dmg phantasms (Yeah we all run a 140 trait points phantashatter spec) and for sure 3 stealths…for the “built in vigor on some things” (Really accurate description)most likely a sigil of energy on both weapon sets…and yes it works even if you’re not a mesmer…

Because mesmers haven’t had the longest list of bugs/nerfs in this game… Every patch THIS ONE INCLUDED something on the Mesmer gets wrecked… in WvW it was confusion… in other areas of the game the blinding befuddlement nerf is very hampering to a condition Mesmer… It is getting to the point where we have no options aside from either phantasm or shatter… Which is annoying because a confusion/blind Mesmer is wicked fun to play.

Really? The LONGEST list of bugs/nerfs in this game? I take it you have never seen the posts on the Engineer or Necromancer forums of the LONG list of bugs that have plagued those two professions since Beta. Every profession in this game has had to deal with bugged traits, skills, tooltips, etc. since the game was released.
However, even though it is a general profession review, I would DEFINITELY have to agree with the following:
“Mesmer
The darling of Guild Wars 2 continues to remain pivotal to the effectiveness of parties and content. Veil, Portal, Time Warp and Feedback are four skills guilds and individuals don’t want to live without while their scepter and its reflective trait is capable of destroying others in WvW. There really isn’t much to build on when it comes to the mesmer as although they lack physical mobility (they have very few movement swiftness skills) they make up for this in every single department. So much so and if you’re thinking of making a profession you really should look no further."[sic]

serious question…
mesmer didnt get any buffs few months ago, 3 or maybe even more, only small nerfs and bug fixes… why this post now? why you think NOW that he is OP? why not before month? or 2? everyone was too worried about ele that they didnt have time to post something about mesmer? or someone just cant stand he got owned by him? this is silly, they nerf someone and the day patch went live, people start crying about someone else being OP without any change in the game…
edit: oh i forgot they increased hp of pets and effect of signets, this affect mesmer as well, so he got even few buffs, true, sorry

that quote is from the same person that thinks mesmers best mainhand weapon is the scepter and the worst offhand weapon is the focus…. he also stated that scepter has a reflective trait? Please tell me where this reflective trait for the Mesmer scepter is because I have theory crafted and implemented almost every feasible build the mesmer has and I have yet to see one that has “scepter” and “reflection” in the same trait. Good point… Not… Veil isn’t worth the CD in most cases Portal is situational in dungeons (has been nerfed repeatedly) and timewarp is the only quickness skill that didn’t get some form of compensation otherwise… This guide also stated that scepter AA still applies confusion which it hasn’t since launch. So once again every patch something about mesmers gets completely wrecked… And their isn’t much you can say to prove other wise…

C’mon man. You have over 1000 tourney wins since they started recording for the ladder and you are really going to claim Mesmer is “Bottom Tier”?
A lot of the bugs that Mesmers have to put up with are inexcusable, and I don’t think they need the nerf bat, but they are certainly not a bottom tier class. Mesmer needs bug fixes and more options in terms of build diversity, but overall I don’t think that they are in a bad spot in terms of balance.

gg.
He’s not saying mesmer is bottom tier, everyone know it isn’t, all he’s trying to say is that little nerf after little nerf + well known bugs we’re slowly going down with every patch…and that’s probably true..
