Mesmer is easier then Ranger?
Firstly… just to let you know, I’ll doubt you’ll get a straight, unanimous answer here. It all depends on circumstance and player ability, which means that every answer is correct depending on who’s playing and who you’re playing against.
For me, it depends on weapon set. Greatsword mesmer provides a lot of damage without having to get your squishy zerk mesmer close. If you know how to use CCs and keep far away, PvP is easy.
The same goes for Ranger longbow though- both fill similar niches. Long range, high damage, good CC.
However, sword ranger (arguably the best dps there is on ranger) requires a fair amount of skill because of the attacks are so jumpy and evasive. However, if you know how to use the skills, a sword ranger can be quite difficult to land a hit on.
Stealth mesmers are also very effective but can be a bit tricky to use.
I’ve generally found that easier builds to play (GS on Mesmer, LB on Ranger) do a lot of damage, but are easy to counter if you know how. The trickier builds are much more difficult to counter and I tend to know pretty fast who really knows their build and who doesn’t.
When it comes down to it, it also depends on who you’re up against. I’ve been killed by plenty of GS mesmers, but the trick is to just get close to them and return CC. I’ve found that once I’m close, GS mesmers go down like a sack of spuds.
I have a 80 mesmer and it is so easy to play in PvP and WvW… In PvP all you have to do is press 123 and the clones will do everything if you’re using an illusion greatsword build

Playing a longbow ranger is easy but actually being good in every situation other than from max range can be difficult which people don’t seem to understand. Classes like warriors are beyond easy to play but of course no one mentions them ever.
Eladan of Greenwood: 80 Ranger
Elemir Swiftblade: 80 Thief
I find my Mesmers a bit more demanding than my Ranger, but then again my two mesemers primarily run sword+sword/staff or scepter+pistol/staff, while on my ranger I gravitated to shortbow/axe+horn.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

With hunter you have one burst damage skill and thats the rapid arrows, you also have less survival then the mesmer, mesmers clones can distract the enemy, we have teleport and stealth also to escape. It seems much easier to live with mesmer.
hunter has a lot more mobility / kiting you need to do, so whys everyone say mesmers hard when I’m getting top scores easily?
There’s no “hunter” in this game. WoW is that way →
It depends on who you are facing. In general ranger is the easiest class to play since they got buffed. Sorry, but it’s true.
Anyway, it’s than.
Ranger is one of the easiest professions to pick up and play, stay ranged and shoot…but one of the hardest to master.

Ok you play LB ranger and I’ll play anything and we see who wins. Sound good?

Clearly you’re wrong because Venetian cuisine doesn’t use edible plastics as part of its traditional ingredients.
I get more satisfaction with playing my Memser main because purple and butterflies, but also the ease at which I play the class is based on familiarity with me vs foe’s class.
I have one of every profession and not as familiar with all the mechanics, but once I understand how they can deal with challenges, I improve my game with them.

Yup. Did you read what I wrote? I won’t pick a LB ranger hard counter, just some random profession. Cool? You’re not going to win.
Elementalist is the easiest class in pvp actually, but that was before patch, idk if their skill floor was raised after the “nerfs”.
If your criteria for easy class is, “Which class has the most get out of jail cards I can use while I sit back and camp with my long range weapon, without regard for how effective I will actually be in a fight”, then yes, maybe Mesmer is the right answer.
However, your DPS is pitiful in comparison to a LB ranger because all your Illusionary Berserkers will just get mowed down by AoE, and when you meet a decent thief you have no counterplay with your phantasm build.
You might also get the top score in a PvP match, that doesn’t mean you actually contributed to a match. All you have to do is be an unnecessary +1 to every fight and point cap to rack up points.

As someone who mainly plays mesmer now but used to only play guardian in pvp…Ranger is definitely an easier class to play.
On my Guardian before i knew anything about mesmer i could easily kill most every mesmer. The only thing i had to do was find the one that was the real one and bam spike it down. Ranger is a lot more difficult because it has way better distance burst to come into fights and with ccs and sniping from inaccessible places they can be hard to get to and hard to quickly kill.
The right way to play mesmer is to dart in and out of combat and shatter your clones when you’re near your foe. This is alot more difficult for most players than using LB ranger to the best of its capability. Knowing when to shatter, when to stay out, avoiding aoes and other damage while shattering and keeping phantasms up can be a real juggle especially when playing against skilled players.
Id say mesmer is one of the easier classes to play in pvp but ranger is definitely the easiest
You wouldn’t actually use a LB ranger for serious PvP, though, would you? I haven’t played that mode in a long time, but in WvW I mainly run fire support with it – it didn’t look terribly effective in 1v1 against anyone who can actually play…
Stormbluff Isle ( http://www.stormbluffisle.com )
Mesmer takes more skill than Ranger because Mesmer doesn’t have protection on dodge. It’s also a little bit harder to land your DPS on Mesmer than Ranger.
the clones will do everything if you’re using an illusion greatsword build..
Except nobody uses illusion builds in pvp because they are simply not effective in anything except low-level play. First off, illusions are killed so easily in team fights. Second of all, you need to boon stripping of a shatter mesmer to win in any match-up (1v1 – 5v5) in the current boon-based meta. If you’re getting top scores with an illusion mesmer, then chances are you’re simply not playing against good players (no offence).
Now if we’re talking shatter mesmers, which is the most viable mesmer build in pvp currently, these are harder to learn than rangers because you have to prepare your burst as well as get it to hit. Any half-decent player knows how to dodge a shatter, so you have to either count dodges or shatter when they don’t expect it. If you miss a shatter, it’s a massive blow to your dps.
As for high level play, yes it’s harder to be effective on a ranger than it is on a mesmer, but I get the impression that we’re talking more about the time/effort required to learn the build in the first place.

i played mesmer and it was easy and forgiving , you have so many escapes and your damage is huge even if you suck

Press 1 2 and 3, phantasms do the rest, except only one phantasm is on a 3 weapon… And it is horrendous with it’s target tracking.
pew pew pew.. ranger to ..hard
OP you right 100%, but I will sugest you try fresh-air Ele! It’s even more faceroll then mes&rang! Semi afk while ownage all map!

Mesmer is more difficult to play than glassbow.
Mesmer is more difficult to play than glassbow.
Worst part of the glassbow Ranger is that if he channels that chain attack on a mesmer, that Mesmer is good as dead if not equipped with feedback. & on the other hand if the mesmer is equipped with feedback, they call us cheap & OP cuz that same Glassbow just obliterated himself with his own attack. I got to admit, it’s funny to see when they do that. Cant stop laughing.

Press 1,2,3 and win? That is what I do wrong then, I usually press also 4 and 5 and sometimes I even switch weapon!

You have to actually enter a match and not fight vs. the dummy golems in the heart of the mists. They are NOT considered pvp.
Man what is with all these people suddenly thinking mesmer is easy mode… I just had a power necro, a condi engi, an S/D Thief and, a D/D ele tell me mesmer was easymode, autowin OP….
I

Just on the odd chance anyone isnt trolling or new players are looking for a ‘faceroll’ class. Mesmer is the single, undisputed, hardest class to make effective at high tier pvp. Fact.

If by hard you mean baiting dodges with Phantasms and then instant-cast shattering people after they don’t have anymore endurance while spamming evades and invuln as you do so is hard then it just shows how much you know.
Ranger is easier than Mesmer, but Mesmer is still pretty easy. There are harder specs in this game, specs that take real skill. Even Thief is more skill-based than Mesmer really but I guess it’s just hard to understand that just because you play a Mesmer.

LOL WUT?! Thief is harder than mes…. Then that must be why so many mesmers constantly wreck thieves no matter what the thief does…
Oh wait.
And that’s not just because I main a mesmer. There several players that don’t ever touch mesmer that know mesmer isn’t in the greatest spot…
Also thief is not harder then mes (build depending). And baiting dodges is almost impossible to do as a mesmer vs an s/d thief. Or even some ranger builds.

Actually I’m a multiclasser who happens to have adapted a special soft spot for Mesmer, probably because i’m a slight masochist
And all this coming from a self confessed and well non anti mesmer troll, who refuses to play one at a significant level of pvp for any level of time.

The problem is the loud minorty that plays mesmer on the forum and keep repeating “mesmer is hard” in every post. The strategy of repeating lies until everyone believes in it.
Pew Pew Ranger is easier to play but also quite easier to kill, so there’s that.

I disagree. It takes me far longer to kill a power ranger on thief then a mesmer due to the 6 sec invuln, block, CCs and random evades.

Well yes, but outside the 6secs signet, ranger is very easy to take down (average, not only on thief)
While a mesmer can kite more than a ranger, so will take more time and effort
So I mean Ranger is easier to be killed than a mesmer, overall vs all classes

But in any team situation, you’ll be in a position where the less mobile classes can’t reach you easily or need to stay on point, your main threat is the enemy thief in the majority of scenarios with either class.

Which your team’s Thief has to counter normally aswel :p
We could also take another class vs the ranger/mesmer, like Engi.
Engi can easily win, even with the signet of stone, it’s not immune to conditions, while a mesmer can outkite an engi and have F4

Funny you should say that. Last night I watched Drazhey dominating the 1v1 server on this engi until a power ranger came along and dethroned him.
LoS’ing a ranger means you’re also LoS’ing your own attacks as an engi, when not LoS’ing an engi has to get closer to be effective since its attacks are easily evaded at 500+ range, whereas a ranger can just stand around at 1000+ range and be fully effective.
Anyway this could go on forever and I don’t even know why I’m defending power rangers :x
