Mesmer used to be my main class for months, but later I started to play other classes and abandoned mes for a while. Recently I’m playing mesmer again, wanted to roam around and help when needed but compraed to all other classess he got THE WORST mobility in game.
Let’s compare:
Warrior:
-25% buff from trait, GS 3, GS5 both good cooldowns, Signet of Rage giving good swiftness, Bull’s charge even or shield 4
Thief:
-25% from signet, Shortbow (!), Hs, Shadowstep, Trap (simillar to Mesmer’s portal but worse, but still)
Engi:
-Radnom swift from Elixir, 1kit + 10 in Tools and we got PERMA switness (!!!!!!)
Necro:
-Since Spec walk is also a stunbreak it’s worth taking – 30sec of swiftness on 48sec cd when traited, warhorn 5, Loctus signet 25%
Guardian:
-Staff 3 on nice CD, Retreat (but no1 uses it anyway)
Ele:
-Swift when changing to Air, Signet 25%, Rtl, Flash
Ranger:
-Signet 25%, Elite, Warhorn, sword 2 when used good, Swoop from gs on low cd
Mesmer:
-Portal on long CD, blink on 30cd, swiftn from focus, randomly short from Chaos storm, can have +30% speed but ONLY with 3 closnes up which never will happen when running somwhere
So basically when I don’t use focus, which I don’t coz it dsn’t suit the build at all, im VERY slow. I can roam better with my necro, help far/close fast.
What can be done? Almost every class has a passive 25% buff from trait or Signet.
So maybe change Signet of Midnight in 1 of those 2 ways:
1) Leave passive effect, lower CD to 25sec, make active give swiftness for 15sec
2) Leave active effect, make passive give 25% speed buff
To have mobility, taking focus will not be obligatory and by sacrificing 1 utility slot we can have more mobility, a good trade off.
Also, improve torch and scepter, I rlly don’t know how, but it’s still bad…

I use a mesmer and i get it , we have few mobility, but adding all our utilities skills like feedback, clones etc i guess it can just be considered a weak spot for the class, you can do rly well even with the “few” mobility
I think its fair b/c they have portal. That ends up having more mobility overall than any other class since your teammates can use it too.
Centaur runes + mirror heal, almost constant swiftness. That’s pretty much it.
Mesmer has the worst mobility? Have you ever played a necromancer?
The fact you have an instant cast teleport and that ridiculously long range portal alone makes your mobility far superior to that of a necromancer.
Do you know what I would give for a Z axis teleport on a Warrior?

Let’s also keep in mind that a good chunk of these mobility items you’re listing aren’t really used at all in high level play (like all the run speed signets, necro warhorn)

I know this, but it req gettin weaker heal and weak runes, I use atm melandru or divinity, I got much better attack/def abilities coz of them so they r superior to Centaur’s, it’s a weak rune overall. Also it req me to use my heal, so if i get attacked from somwhere by thief eg im in hard spot with no heal. + other classess don’t have to use cent runes, like engi or war. Ther’s 2much sacrifice for this.

And y Ragnar, I can do well, when im in the fight, but for example: I was goin far point during the match after rgrp, thief went ahead much in seconds, engi used boots + swiftness and the ywere half way ahead me and i was runing slowly after them, when iI finally got to the point, they nrly won it so i left portal and runned slowly somwhere else.
The speed you’re running is not as important with Mesmer b/c you have Z axis mobility, cross map team mobility, and the best ranged burst in the game.
Maybe it’s not as important in PvP, but in PvE/WvW where you actually have to travel some way, mesmers are BY FAR the slowest class.
Given the amount of buffs other classes received, it’s only fair to change one of our useless signet passives (midnight, inspiration) to +25% movement speed.
But, well, i’m in the wrong forum for this and this has been posted several dozens of times already anyway.
The speed you’re running is not as important with Mesmer b/c you have Z axis mobility, cross map team mobility, and the best ranged burst in the game.
Best ranged burst goes to necros still.

Z Axis teleports are way more lucrative and clutch worthy than a leap or movement skill for 1200 range. Please take rush and give me Blink.

A lot of these spots you could use have been taken away, you can still use Phase Retreat at certain points but if it’s a targeted tele like Blink it’s no dice.
There’s still a large amount of useful Z Axis spots.
Graveyard teamfights, Z axis is crucial for retreating and getting HP. Or pushing in on a weak enemy.
Clock tower Khylo, you can get from ground floor to the 2nd level in one tele.
Some areas of Keep you can tele to the upper level.
Yah, I’m not quite sure that most mesmers are complaining about their mobility compared to their viability in the current meta.
Blink, portal, focus. All viable solutions, imo.
in spvp i don’t have such a big problem with swifness as i have in wvw. there u gotta run long long distances. runes of the centaur is good for swifness, but i prefer using other runes for the fights. focus is kinda a must have in wvw.

In WvW i would give you its an issue…but can get swiftness from a weapon..focus i think? then take it off before you enter battle…not ideal but it beats normal running speed.

That is the real issue. Now in sPvP the focus isn’t that great of a weapon thanks to the 1s ICD before focus pull it has become a subpar weapon for mesmers and the phantasm sucks. Then for tourneys if the mesmer is actually on a tourney team (GL with that btw) they will have a minimum of IOL, Portal, Moa. This leaves one option for mobility which can be blink only (none of our utils give swiftness and we have no traits that grant speed increase.) In sPvP I agree however mesmer mobility isn’t a huge problem thanks to map size (Foe Fire being the largest. ) However as a general quality of life issue mesmer greatly needs a run speed increase and this has been griped about since I have started playing mesmer.

Yeh, in W3 taking on n off focus is good solution tho.
I’ll say it again – with mes I can’t join the fight on point fast, if i got portal on cd, I have to stay or run slowly to the point, by the time i arrive half of fight is alrdy done, or sum1 from my team is already downed, thief can get there fast, so can warrior or engi, I can’t with mesmer…
I know why you don thave mobiltiy its becuas eyour one of the best 1v1 poisiton holders. It would be too op to give ur phantasms insane dmg and speed as well. If anything they should make you trade off for it.
A +25% movement signet (probably) wouldn’t change the speed of our illusions so it’s still easy to walk away from them.
Also, warriors,thieves and eles got both high damage and mobility so that is not an argument.
i have a lv 80 ( pve ) mesmer and i’m rank 53 mesmer for lveling thay DEFENETLY need to give some passive speed buff but for pvp i think its kinda good you have portal and 4 from focuse for shater

I mean necromancers do have Spectral Walk(30 seconds of swiftness) and Signet of the Locust (25% movement speed).
I am not saying they are optimal or anything like that, or even that they can be compared to a blink, but necromancers do have a way to increase their speed without taking specific runes or running specific weapons.
In all honesty, it is a pleasure leveling my necromancer. She can actually move with a decent speed, without me having to do anything for it to happen ^^

Spec walk is actually very good utility – stunbreaker + good speed boost, signet is non-used in tpvp, but at least there is a possibility.

Yes in combat we have awesome mobility. I am in no way disagreeing with you on that one. If we have staff and focus equipped, we are very hard to catch and in combat our mobility is superb.
However: Outside of combat we are slow. Sure, if we run focus we can get a speed boost and if we run staff and combine About Face with Phase Retreat (or find a friendly critter ^^) we can move forward a bit faster. We can also use Rune of Air.
I do however think (to some extend) the lack of speed is causing mesmers to use specific weapons and runes just to keep up with the rest.

Not sure if necromancers need a buff in that direction atm. I haven’t tried pvp on mines yet.
Some sort of escape might be a fair trade if their damage was reduced. BUT! I have absolutely no clue what I am talking about when it comes to necromancers ^^

In high end pvp games 400 or less lb rating you dont see mesmers thay simply cant survive with all condy spams from you know what
