Mesmer, thief, thief, guardian, mesmer
If I may ask, are you playing hotjoins our tournaments? and are you upset because you are having trouble against them?

Can you aware the rest of us where we can find this mythical world with no Rangers or Elementalists?
“Hot joins” I play to have fun, not to tourney. I don’t know enough about pvp to attempt tourneys yet

Well, tough luck bro. Hotjoins will always be swarming with thieves and mesmers. They eat noobs for lunch and they eat them before the unsuspecting victims even had the chance to realize what happened to them. It’s fun! But only if you’re the thief or the mesmer.
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”

i was the only ele on my team of 5 thiefs 1 ele (me) and 2 mesmers
Spvp is random but yes alot of thieves. Gw2 is very flavor of the month. atm its thieves. Used to be eles. B4 that warriors. Just play their weakness and enjoy.
Crysis, Lil Damage, Ovi, Jindavikk, Guard
Causing cancer all day.
This is exactly one of the reasons why hotjoins need to GO.
Try playing thief thief thief mes mes in a tpvp match…it’s not going to go anywhere.
Hotjoins teach beginning pvpers the wrong way of playing, and if they ever jump into tpvp, they are in a world of hell and wonder why their zerging techniques from hotjoins won’t work. After you play true tpvp you’ll realize how ridiculously easy and mindless hotjoins are.
I bet you that if you ever tried tpvp, you will actually see the script flipped…It’d be something like: ele, ele, ranger, guard, nec. Multiple thieves + mesmers don’t stack well in tpvp.
Hotjoins need to go, and have solo queue replace the “hot join” mentality.
Undercoverism [UC]
To the health of this game, hotjoin needs some drastic glory-restrictions to avoid zergs and actually bring ppl to the tactical aspects of conquest. Or even better, remove this whole mess of a “game-mode”. It’s in no way an experience, how pvp works.
Hotjoins need to go, and have solo queue replace the “hot join” mentality.
I think, if you remove hotjoins, you will see all those unorganized and not focused for any team play people in tourneys. That’s why hotjoins must stay…

That’s perfect if all ppl will solo q instead. Because sooner or later they will find out, that winning requires a team and strategies. Means there would be some more premades and guilds. Ergo: Competition is increased.
I think with some improvements in tournament rewards (more glory, rank-points) where you could rank-up faster as in hotjoin, they would be alot of new players in tpvp. But for that we need tournaments to be a faster rank-grind than hotjoin.
Anytime i see an ele they usually are pretty skilled. Being as most avoid the class when it comes to pvp you’ll find more pro than nooby ones.
Thief you’ll find alot of bad ones cuz of all the noobies who think thief can make them 1hit everyone.
Guardians i never see kill anyone but i never see get killed unless 2+ppl r fighting em.
Warrior i see slaughter any thief in their path.
Mesmer i wouldnt consider op but they r real tough to kill.
Engineer are incredibly epic (WUUUT you serious?) Yes engineer. You find the right engy and he will kill everyone in a 3v1 fight.

1) nope, not a huge skill gap as full bunker ele contrary to popular belief, you only have a few rotations and they are painfully obvious
2) true, but mesmer is right up there – people don’t know how to fight them and get gibbed with their glass build and try to play one
3) gaurdians are strong, but depending on the dps hitting them eng/ele and even ranger can do the same thing
4) maybe if they aren’t glass 100b, thief is usually a joke on my shout/adren burst warrior but they are pretty strong duelers
5) one cc without a break and a mesmer will drop quick, they do no dps with a staff out
6) eng are good.. at point nut or hiding uptop nading but still needs some love, gimmick specs need to go
@ op – your title should read – gimmick class 1, gimmick class 2, gimmick class 3, gimmick class 1, gimmick class 4, gimmick class 2, ect
(thief burst/100nades/glass warriors/shatter mesmers/full bunkers/trap rangers specifically come to mind)
ie – bunker/burst/ranger meta
I’d be happy to find an ele or guardian in my or opsite team.. All I’m facing is mesmers and warriors.. I join a team with my warrior and there are one and sometimes two more.. Once I was in a team with four mesmers.. lol
Of course, people do this in hotjoins because hotjoins player skill is way lower.
If you tried thief thief, mes , mes , etc vs good players, you would lose, and lose bad.
Just pratice till you can do tournies, then you will stop seeing groups like this, or if you see them ( and your playing with good players and are good yourself), you will stomp them.
Yet again, another hotjoin player complaining bout thiefs/mesmers. While more experienced players just kill them and move on.
Hot join aka zergjoin it’s all bout dps/burst classes..because all you have to do is stomping noobs all day long, tpvp is a way different story…complaining about game balance while playing hotjoin it’s just nonsense…hotjoin it’s just for honor farming (sad) and build testing (Not so good fot that imo, cause you’re going to meet 90% unskilled and too easy ppl, so you won’t have a real test anyway)…nothing more than that…we all know hotjoin is umbalanced and it will ever be just because it’s not based on a decent pvp system, you just zerg spamming random stuff on random ppl making worthless honor….balance it’s obviously focused on tpvp, as it should be…infact theives and mesmers are pretty balanced there…just go tpvp and use hotjoin for free time between matches, you’ll see the difference…fun thing is that when i sometimes go hotjoin i take thief, after 2 mins ppl start with “Thief op, nerf !11!1 QQ and so on”…so i take guardian…2 mins “We can’t kill you!! Guardian op!! Nerf qq !11!1!”…then i go mesmer, guess what? 2 mins “Mesmer op!!! Nerf mesmers already…qq..qq..qq” …pretty boring -.- same ppl usually complain about 100nades engis, hb wars and so on also..lol
Always the same story….if you kill me your class is op, if i can kill you your class is fine and mine is probably up but i’m so awesome i can make it work anyway….nothing new…

^this really – nothing to add
god i hate those rangers
“Hot joins” I play to have fun, not to tourney. I don’t know enough about pvp to attempt tourneys yet
Well, you should try tourneys if you want to have fun.
It’s way more fun than the HotJoin Zerg running from objective to objective…
It’s also a lot more balance for the team composition pov.
You won’t see to many thiefs / mesmers there, at least i did not over the past weeks.
I think hot joins have there place, but yes something does need to change. In the end, whatever the top teams advertise is what most people will run, that or the best GC build.
That won’t be changing soon.
Usually I see more of the other classes. Yesterday in hotjoin I was against like 5 freaking rangers, all spamming the #5 longbow rain of arrows AoE. That was fun… But yeah, I see a lot of the other classes, but today I have no idea what’s going on.
The right necro build will hang all of those classes out to dry. Fortunately for me I never run across those types of necros when I’m on mine.
New players join Spvp.
Get owned on their warrior , engi , necro , ranger, guardian, by a 3 Thief 2 Mesmer team.
They then think , why should i bother spending weeks learning this class , when i can insta-roll a theif or Mes, then start owning ?
They reroll to Thief or Mes.
New players join Spvp on their warrior , engi , necro , ranger, guardian.
You own them easilly with your 2minutes Thief/Mesmer experience.
Guess what class they go and reroll?
This is essentially Spvp. In an ideal world, you wouldnt need to nerf thief or mesmer, just actually make them harder to play somehow.
To everyone who keeps advocating the removal of hotjoin -
People need a place to test their specs – nobody is going to want to experiment with new specs and playstyles if they have to be done in tourney ques.
I assume the same goes for new classes (I don’t have a ton of time for tourneys lately, so I’m just assuming rank is account wide, not character specific). If I decide I want to run a Warrior after cranking my matchmaking rank up on my main class, it’ll be discouraging – not much of a chance to learn when experienced players are roflstomping you.
Hotjoin exists for people to kitten around, and for people to test specs. Its unfortunate that you actually have to learn the game to beat certain classes (Burst Thief,Shatter Mes, Bunker Ele, Bunker guard, trap ranger), but you’ll have to learn the game anyway – better sooner than later.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.
You said Thief and Mesmer in the OP, also in the topic title.
Enjoy your “L2P noob” storm from every Thief and Mesmer in this forum.

Thief and mesmer are not OP, they are just the first class thats easy to kill things with and tricky to fight against. Once you learn em you beat em. I hotjoin rarely, but ill win 95% vs thiefs or mesmres in hotjoin, sometimes even winning 2on1. I play an engy.
IN tournies i win my fair share with them. THiefs/mesy’s are not Op. They are just skillcurve unfriendly.
Thieves and mesmers could be played by monkeys to a decent degree of effectiveness.
Thieves and mesmers could be played by monkeys to a decent degree of effectiveness.
If you base this on hotzerg’s point of view then also wars could be played by monkeys and be effective like pretty much everything else with high dps (Pew pew rangers anyone?)…maybe even more than mesmer and thieves…..if you’re talkin’ about tpvp then no, bad thieves and mesmers are the first going down vs decent teams if you don’t know how to play them good..
Proof? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1oJzIQxQiI probably this guy is even worse than an average monkey..
Nothing more to say…you are just wrong, get it…

The difficulty in killing an inexperienced target as a Thief? Easy
The difficulty in killing an inexperienced target as any profession in the game, so long as you’re specced to do so? Also easy
The difficulty in killing an experienced target as an equally experienced Thief? Challenging.
The difficulty in killing an experienced target as any other equally experienced profession in the game? Also challenging.
The difficulty in holding a point as a bunker Thief? Pure unbridled dog kitten (I say this because our defensive trees, acrobatics and shadow arts, rely on dodge and stealth respectively. Dodge mileage varies based on conditions / boons, and will often send you outside the ring, even if only for a brief moment, allowing the enemy to make progress. With stealth, you cant hold points in the first place)
The difficulty in holding a point as any other bunker in the game? Not so bad.
The level of joy I feel when someone tries to tell me my class is faceroll because one of my abilities is a VERY noticeable gap closer that does less dps than my auto-attack?
Priceless.
There’s some things a Thief does well.
For everything else, there’s Guardian.

If you actually read my post. I didnt say Thief or Mes were OP, so im not sure why you are trying to create a strawman arguement for me saying so.
I was merely stating that, Thieve and Mes are just very easy classes to get lots of kills on, thats why they are so prominent. Hence i stated that in an ideal world, they wouldnt need a nerf, they just need to be made more complicated to play.

I don’t care about hotjoin or tPvP. I care about 1v1 balance which is where thieves and mesmers can kill their target by smashing their head on the keyboard. This facerolling in 1v1 fights is surely a mighty reason why people don’t come back for more PvP. There’s a big problem when you have to run away from an opponent with your tail between your legs because you decided to roll a different profession. Most people don’t learn to turn back and run, they just give up on PvP.
Sorry to say that but the game in the aspect of PvP is balanced around tPvP. And tbh, the thief is one of the worst classes in 1v1. If you don’t expect him then mabye he’ll get you. Otherwise he has no chance. And now keep playing hotjoin or WvW and stop bringing up arguments without any knowledge of these classes.

Sadly everyone else don’t give a kitten about 1vs1 here…this is a team based game you know and it will never be balanced for 1vs1, try metin2 next time..if ppl don’t pvp because they want a 1vs1 balanced game no problem for me, it’s like saying i want to play wow but i don’t want to farm stuff so ppl must change all mechanics because of me….lol….don’t think so…if you want to play a team based game you’re welcome…otherwise metin2 that way —>

Where exactly is team based balance if almost every situation in tPvP is 1vs1?
Guild Wars was team based, where you have to fight with your team in every situation. This game is just imbalanced. Period.

theres plenty of tteam fights or 2on2’s in games, and sometimes 1on1. Some classes/specs are better at 1on1, others in teamfights. Also, 1vs1 balance ISNT possible. If you allow build diversity players find ways to specalize, giving up 1vs1 power for team utility (ie mesmers who run illusion of life, portal, timewarp-3 of the 4 utilties geared towards team play).
Additionaly , no game in HISTORY with diverse classes has 1on 1 balance. Not wow, not league of legends, not dota.
Its not even a reasonable request, its literally impossible to do.
Team balance is more managable because alot of variables washout.

Yes, there are 2vs2 fights. But, exactly, where is the team cooperation? There isn’t. There isn’t a damage dealer, a pressure midliner, a support and healers. There are just a group of people swinging their weapons on each other.
This game was all built to be balanced around 1vs1 and it is far away from impossible.
Every profession can play any specialization they want. Just look at how traits and weapons are designed. The point is that some professions are too good at one specialization, making the other specs on the same profession (see the other weapons/traitline) and the same spec on other professions completely worthless.
Who wants to run a Greatsword ranger (a weapon set which yells “raw damage”) when there are thieves and warriors? Who wants to play as condition damage when there is thief which overshadow any condition spec in terms of damage?
That’s the point.
The game is made to be balanced for 1vs1, it is possible to balance on 1vs1, but it isn’t balanced at all.
Spvp is random but yes alot of thieves. Gw2 is very flavor of the month. atm its thieves. Used to be thieves. B4 that thieves. Just play dungeons and enjoy.
Fixed that for you. Couple of type-o’s in there I think could have given people the wrong impression.
well dont know all skills but after i played some pve (missed encountering real player enemies in travel but hey …)anyway say i try some PvP can never miss out on that fun,but my first few matches i figured out istantly “invisible spamming” i mean wauw… really? that just made me wanna trow this game away cause i figured it was a waste of my time anyway..of to try some WvW with mylvl 42 equiped soldier (takes a hell of long time before u can have some real PvP action in this game real buzzkill there )

Well, sadly people also don’t give a kitten about tPvP either, hence why organized teams complain of long queues or having no other team to play against, so you can stop acting like if your opinion is supported by anything other than this big fictional player base that you’ve created in your head.
And people who want better 1v1 balance are not asking for mechanics to be changed but just balanced. If a profession has an hard to deal with mechanic he should have access to lower damage potential because of it (hint: thieves and mesmers).
This is essentially Spvp. In an ideal world, you wouldnt need to nerf thief or mesmer, just actually make them harder to play somehow.
There are some mechanics in certain skills that are very rewarding and too easy to pull off like Heartseeker (gap closer, can be executed consecutively because of initiative, decent damage, auto-heat seeking on target) i mean what more could you ask for?
Imagine thief’s Heartseeket with it’s damage (pre-nerf) to actually not auto-home-in to the target but actually work like how Backstab works wherein you need to be behind or beside your target in order to land the hit. That would have been awesome.
Imagine shatters dealing a lot more damage than they do now and also a larger aoe BUT does not home-in to the target and just explodes on the clones’ current position. That would have been awesome
Difficult to execute. But very rewarding if executed properly.

This.
But no more damage to shatters. Hell, just imagine 4k of spreaded AoE damage per clone. Nope.
