That’s it, let just admit that most of the time solo arenas are even worst than hotjoins, at least if you try to win, too much people join without knowing anything of what to do or even what is the difference between hotjoin and arenas.
Anet should put a minum rank of 20 to join arenas, and after a guy hit that rank, give him a fast tutorial that explain the difference between the 2 game modes.

I agree, this should have been done a while ago. It’s not fun either for the newbies, who get slaughtered and learn nothing, nor for their teammates.

Shouldn’t be done for team queue.

You can’t even know someone’s rank anymore anyways, so how do you know the people you are in solo queue are below whatever rank? Finisher’s don’t tell you, I had my finisher set to rabbit until I got my shark.

How do you know you aren’t just playing with someone who’s playing a class they aren’t too familiar with that’s rank 80 in solo queue?

How do you know you aren’t playing with a really good rank 1 that is using an alt account?

ANet did a smart thing by hiding ranks from people. All they need to do is improve their matchmaking and foster the growth of the PvP community and you won’t have as many issues where you’re matched up with people that are outliers in skill compared to everyone else.

Well just because you requested it doesn’t mean it will happen. Though I do think a min rank of 10 would be nice is it necessary? idk 20 is to high to lock out players from participating in ranked matches . I think if possible a bracket system would be a better solution. Also how about rewards? isn’t there a cap on how many times you can receive them in hotjoin?

How about a working matchmaking system? Ah yes, not enough player for that. And why arent there enough players? Bad matchmaking system causing pairings with total newbies.

A fresh noob isn’t really any worse than someone who got to rank 20 (or any rank) in hotjoin. Further, what will happen when the hotjoin population declines? That will severely limit the growth of the tournament playerbase.

If anything, implement a mandatory PvP/Conquest tutorial that each account must complete before entering ranked tournaments.

Rank is meaningless as it can be farmed by PvE players.

Even before, when you could still see rank, I always saw people at 20+ rank who would all do pvp brawls over one point while someone on the other team would cap the other two without any resistance.

The whole pvp system is a mess for several reasons. It can be a miserable experience for both new players and experienced. New players who wants to enjoy pvp and be rewarded for playing the content are punished. Experienced players who wants to do well and be rewarded are punished. The idea of pvp being competitive is an illusion. The match making system is a joke. It’s sad because pvp can be so much more in the game only if Arenet executed it correctly. If they’re having such a hard time creating a more appealing system, they might as well turn to other more successful pvp games (league of *cough legends).

That’s absolutely why you have tiers that considers the amount of games you’ve played, the amount of games everyone’s played, and win/lose ratio. It may not always provide an even match up but it sure hella beats the current system. However, it may be a little too late unfortunately. The whole system’s been this way since launch (over 2 darn years now), only favoring and sustaining a small community of the same players that’s always done well.

Ranks don’t mean anything at all, considering how a vast majority just got freebie rank 80 when they were around rank 60. In other words, what makes you (without a shadow of doubt) think a rank 20+ is better than a rank 1-19.

Experience excuse can be a drag, since they could have become vastly pvp experienced by roaming in wvw or duelling in custom arena’s. Sure it’s not the same idea of actually being totally obsessed about circles to win. But at least they would know how to react, kill people and adept when they need to.

Not for nothing but I soloqed a bit yesterday and it was matching me with mostly all players that ranked in top 100 of soloq. Seemed to be working ok to me.

Why do we always see threads with “NOW” instead of “IN A COUPLE WEEKS” or “WHENEVER YOU GET AROUND TO IT”? Will adding your pet change somehow be less effective if they do it in two weeks?

Perhaps with team queue, but solo queue hardly feels like a competitive experience and therefore shouldn’t be limited. as someone who has spent a lot of time roaming in wvw I hopped into solo queue when the reward tracks came out, never playing pvp before, and no one complained about me lacking skill or such. (except once or twice, when I literally told everyone that i was brand new to spvp, but ironically i recall that we ended up winning most of the time)

Honestly, if anet wants to keep the “noobs” away from solo queue, make it more obvious that hotjoin is the place for starters. I didn’t even know it existed until one of my guilds decided to play around in one, let alone it being the place i was “supposed” to go to keep away from the entitled players ;P

2) Different meta means a different counter to the builds that people use.
3) The average level of skills of a wvw player is lower compared to a pvp player (not always, but most of the time)
4) This may sound stupid, but the most i do arenas, the most i understand one thing, the actual ability to fight and kill a guy (and not getting killed) is just a 30% of what a good player is, and the remaining 70% is map awareness through minimap , that lead to a smart rotation in the whole match to support your team to the fullest, this is actually the big difference between good and bad players.

So in the end, my suggestions for Anet would be this:
1) Put a minimum rank of 10-20 to join arenas.
2) When you reach the right rank, a good tutorial that explain the difference between the game modes.
3) Remove the reward cap from hot joins, let the farmers farm, and let them stay where they can play how they want. There is nothing worst than a guy that join arena and play only to get a good personal score at the end of the match.

I think this things could improve the quality of life for all PvP players, what do you guys think?

first, i’d like to point out I never said I was good. I consider myself very casual (especially in pvp, which i only do when wvw is boring), just that no one specifically complained about me being bad, since i have semi-decent experience in how the game works, and not playing hotjoin before, proves that (at least some) people can join spvp without ruining the game like this topic seems to make it out to be, and honestly if this restriction were in place i would have not done pvp at all

1) agreed, but i don’t run the meta in either and no one seemed that worried about it. also,
1a) it takes a quick google search to find the metas for a specific gamemode and know the basics of playing it
1b) metas in unorganized groups and organized groups are quite different as well.

2) the above could apply to that as well.

3) I definitely disagree. wvwer’s are better at wvw, and pvpers are better at pvp, for the most part.

4) in wvw, map awareness is important as well, and on a much larger scale ;P. it takes 5 minutes of reading to get a general idea of what to look for in pvp matches (granted, it takes much longer to be an expert at it, but as i said, solo queue isn’t the competitive gametype, just as pugging dungeons isn’t competitive, nor is following a pug commander in wvw)
