Miracle on the 10th of December?
I think in generall proposed changes will do more good than bad, so I vote yes, maybe spvp will rise from it’s knees. I think it’s finally step in the right direction, altho there will be still much work to do. But I got hope. Still.

It’ll change balance a bit but this could very well take some time.
Doesn’t matter which builds will emerge, you will still see the same complaints. Some build will be branded as braindead/spammy/skillless others will scratch on the edge of viability…
However it won’t magically revive the pvp scene. But if the rewards they start implementing are good enough, people will slowly start to come back or try it out for the first time.
Dont put so much on this patch. Its not like you’ll see a patch that will fix things all of a sudden. Devs know that even an apparent little change can screw things greatly, so they wont do big changes.
Fact is that things are already screwed to a point that it would be worth to take the risk get on work and do a kittenload of changes….. but this wont happen.
You can just hope that they’ll slowly get on the right direction, and maybe in a future not well defined you’ll see some decent pvp.
Already saw many so called BIG OMMAYGAWD BALANCE UPDATES
…pvp still sux and ppl stil quit.
the problem with gw2 pvp, and gameplay in general: they made the mechanics too simple.
removing the healer didnt so much ‘break the holy trinity and allow creative balanced builds’ as it just took away an option and left a huge playerbase without a prefered role, all because it was one of the more in demand jobs.
it goes on though, not only did they remove healers, they also simplified enchantments, conditions, and hexes – to a point where strategic decision making is minimized and spam is encouraged.
after that they made really poor balance decisions, evidinced by te traits and downed state abilities at launch. not only were these all over the place in terms of balance, they lacked a cascading system of properties, which are integral to the type of ‘talent tree’ gw2 was intent on mimicing. The game needed more than two (typically parallel) layers. (trait line, skill type, ie cantrip).
finally they pushed stuff like downed state upon their players despite feedback that it was terrible. This is a representation of a certain hubris, and unwillingness to admit that not all of their efforts to break the mold were golden. some were just bad, but anet was, seemingly, too proud to admit this and compromise on a more classic system.
Well. Let’s look at what we already know:
The patch will include hardcounters in form of passive traits.
Which is an obvious indication that this patch will be just like all the others we’ve had.
No. It won’t save the game.

OMG why does the same thread appear before every balance patch?
The big changes are going to be when new game modes are introduced and when spvp is tied into the rest of the game in a meaningful way. If this patch introduces these aspects and does it well then yes it will be a miraculous and game changing event. Oh-removing skyhammer from tourney play would be a big positive as well.
If it just tones down warrior and condition/AI spam etc. then it will be just a run of the mill event.
A positive sign is the great energy we have seen by the devs on the spvp forums of late and the work on fixing the leaderboards. Every dev post I have read, sometimes inexplicably posted in obscure threads, points to a drastic change for the better, if not in this patch then in the near future.
sPvP would need a miracle yes but I would not hold my breath for it. The last great pvp balance patch did not do much.
So unless Anet realized pvp will slowly die without a lot of attention then this patch will be nothing special.
ill might come back to Gw2 after the patch to play a few days and see how it is.
Although i went back to playing SWTOR, I’m having allot of fun there and i intend to stay there.
This patch is not enough to bring players back, period.

They’ve already made numerous huge changes that broke the meta in ways the playerbase could have easily warned them about. Their “we don’t want to whack-a-mole balance” statement means nothing right now.

Yeh, what i ment is that stuff like adding a trait that gives burning to necros arent big changes at all, sure, they imply big consequences, but with big changes i mean a rework of the system; thats why i say it wont happen.
Miracle? No. But it’ll be a step in the right direction to fix the current meta. Problem is, we don’t know if the new meta that’ll come out of it will be any better or not.
But unlike the June’s patch, which simply added countless buffs across several professions, this one seems pertty serious about nerfing many of the things that need to be nerfed, and nerfing other things to compensate for upcoming buffs.

nerfing NOW to compensate for FUTURE buffs… sounds same to me… were is the balance in that?! balance between buffs and nerfs should come together. Nerfing now and compensating in a few month is NOT balance.

You misunderstood me. I meant buffs and nerfs coming in the same build together.
the patch is a small incremental one. it will not do enough to shake up the meta.
Nope, the real problems wont be touched. gw2 will die soon
Interesting responses, i edited the original post to include a step in the RIGHT direction. Keep em coming Spvp community.
bump???
The game will die slowly as it is doing for the last year,
havn’t you seen the milking actions going on?
Trying to bleed the community of gold then trow in the gemstore items .. ^^
gem prices rising and rising.. cranking as much pay to wear kitten out there.
add to that a season system in a unbalanced WvW environement.. more goldsink.
next WvW items in the gemstore.. promoting the crap out of the game making it Free to play when you pledge alliance to Gw2 as the only MMO.. LMAO. everyone will be a winner in that competition, we need the new players!!
and after those new players realize this game won’t be be what it promised to be within the next year or so. people will preorder their starcitizen/wildstar account.. and start counting days/browsing steam for some new games..
There..my nostradamus moment for today..
E.A.D.
Don’t expect any miracles. Don’t expect anything apart from what they’ve told you. Anything more is just you hyping yourself up.

I think balance will be better after the patch.
But it changes very little about how the patch ignores glaring issues like Healing Singet and other elements of passive play.
So much passive play in a game with 10-15 abilities to manage on most classes is a joke.
Yea i agree with ya Heal Sig is imba, i think they buffed it cuz of the condi meta though?
Interesting theory Merlin after all it is business.
