More incentive to participate?
I won’t even bother recommending a daily automated tournament system that automatically gives you the reward after completion because apparently gw1 features are too complex for gw2 #observemoderip
Why build upon successful systems from your first game when you can just flounder around for 2+ years reinventing the PvP system every few months?

In addition to a worker leaderboard this game needs to rework its reward system entirely and actually give meaningful rewards not just a spray of useless crafting matts and green armors. If you want more tpvp teams in the scene we need lower level tournaments, mid level tournaments and high level tournaments. IE ESL weeklies are for top teams, mistpedia/insert other trny here are for medium level, and then another trny for teams just starting out.

I loved what they did with Tournament of Legends / Tournament of Glory.
Those big tournaments really got everyone involved. Hopefully they could do more of those and replace useless Llama prizes with actual rewards.
Highest Rank: Team Q – 33 / Solo Q – 1 (27/07/14)
Team: Svanir Pushing Lord [solo] / Carried Ace to Rank 1 Esport Guild Leaderboard
I think they definitely need to extend prizes. Very possible a lot more teams would join up if they didn’t feel “Why bother if I am not going to get anything out of it”. Yes some realize it is all for learning and eventually they will get up there, so they do it. Some ‘teams’ probably don’t feel it’s worth their time because they are ‘casuals’ and maybe play PvP only half the time or less. Even if you extend it even down to 5th place would big a HUGE change. Throw 4th at 2(1?)k gems..5th at 1(500?)k or something…. Some incentive would definitely bring in more people. You look at other tournaments and our top tournaments and they reward a hell of a lot more. WTS rewards everyone (top 4). All you got to do is show up and you get a check. I know our team base is smaller but other games reward top 32….
Some players do it just for the love of doing it. Others do it for the E-Fame. A LOT more would do it if it didn’t just pay out the top 3 teams. Prizes can be small, but the fact of getting SOMETHING will make peoples time worth it to join up.
Anet wants to be esports…it’s not just adding new player base….Maybe try starting with the thousands of players already fully dedicated to PvP….Give them a reason.

I was thinking about this and I really think that Mistpedia is a good avenue for this. I think the top 4 teams in the past week (before the Mistpedia) in ESL should not be allowed into the Mistpedia (instead of the top 3). That removes a lot of the top teams and should provide good opportunities for others to participate.
Besides that we have the relatively newer tournaments such as Academy Gaming’s that can help with this issue as well (despite the fact they don’t have funding atm).
Am I good?… I’m good.
That’s silly! Everybody should be allowed to participate in tournaments! Rookie teams and veteran teams! The obvious solution is a tier system! They have this IN LITERALLY EVERY GAME! Except Guild Warts of course! No new team wants to play in these tournaments to face WTS winning teams live in front of the massive (lol) twitch viewership! With tiers, newer teams can face other newer teams and prizes should be awarded to the top 2 teams in each tier after something like a month! There’s your incentive to PvP! There’s your incentive to compete! There’s your incentive to form teams! Alas it’s but a dream….
Wahoo! Bye frands!

Makes too much sense and that frankly sounds like a lot of work anyway.
Top 4 not allowed in Mistpedia would be better. I think the main problem with Mistpedia is that it is at a rough time for a lot of people being during the week. A lot of west coast people are still just getting off work at that time. Would be better if it was Saturdays (I know AG’s is) but it should have been that way from the start IMO. It is a bit tougher to make the weekly tourneys and that is why you don’t even see many teams join up. Hell, only 4 teams showed up last week. Newer teams have a better chance there, but most can’t join up for it honestly.

Tournament Tokens based on placement in tiered tournaments that can be exchanged for -exclusive- pvp prizes.
The dream…
They should make a set of weapons similar to the SAB weapons, where different colors can be rewarded for different levels of tournaments.
Perhaps you can do a reward track for blue particle effects.
Reach top 50 (500?) in the leaderboard season, win an entry-level tourney, get top 4 in a mid-level, or reach 2nd round of a major tourney, for green effects on one weapon.
Win a mid-level tourney, or get in top 4 of an ESL for yellow.
Win an ESL or get in top 4 of world championship for orange.
Win a major world championship for red/purple.
People already love showing off their tribulation weapons as proof of their skill in SAB. I think this would be a great, and easy, way to introduce swag people want.
Its like an extended version of the glorious hero’s armor, but with more tiers so they can be given out for more levels. The actual disbursements here are just to demonstrate.

I’d say you hit the nail on the head.
Currently, there is a large number of newer players that are struggling to find teams. Those teams then struggle to find a reason to play together.
A-net needs to make that reason. If anything I’d say that some type of exclusive team-based pvp reward (armor sets, weapon skins, minis, finishers, reward tracks for players in the esl etc…)
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
What was their biggest succes?
T.o.L.
A declining pvp scene (hambots and no event for a year) and grouch secretly hoping they can get 16x teams to sign up…
BUT WAIT!
“everyone who win 1 round get a decent reward, and each next win is a small but good higher tier of prize.”
BOOM , OVER +128 TEAMS SHOW UP
What im saying is what everyone has been saying whole time: leagues aka tiers of skill level aka more tiers of rewards.
As a player on a newly formed team I can definitely applaud the ideas presented in this thread. I, for one, don’t mind facing teams on a higher level than us, teams that we admire, because I see it as valuable experience that we can (hopefully) learn from to get on their level one day. It’s all about the mindset. However, I do feel for people who get burnt out and no longer have incentive to play since (in most cases) the reward structure is designed rather poorly indeed.
My suggestion would actually be daily and weekly automated tournements.
Daily Tournements (Twice daily AM + PM to accommodate different timezones)
Runs for 1 hour each (rewards based on how many wins you have during the tournament(No elimination for losing))
Weekly Tournements (Twice daily AM + PM to accommodate different timezones)
Runs for 2 hour each Elimination style Rewards based on how long you lasted in the tournament
Recommended rewards – are skin unlocks that are currently unavailable to a person who pvp’s exclusively (or whatever else a person who exclusively sPvP’s would want)
(Future expansion for casting are the monthly tournaments)(Access to these is restricted to teams placing in the top 3 in the weekly tournament)
I think this would be a healthy and self sustaining system that would not require direct employee supervision if properly automated.
SPVP should actually give rewards instead of the non-existence rewards it gives now. The reward paths are really bad.
Rewards are important but TIER are most important.
Because if you put amazing rewards and always the same people/team win these rewards, you don’t solve the problem.
So, it means not only high Tier tournaments but also “good” Tier tournament with good reward And league system in the game.
In this way competion and scene can grow.
There should be automated 100-300 gem tournaments everyday. WC3 had automated tournaments in like 2002.
Reward tracks also need to actually give things, right now they’re awful.

I currently run the Academy Gaming tournaments which provide a new kind of incentive: lesser experienced players and teams get a chance to play in an orderly fashion, on stream, to have fun and improve their play in a legitimate setting unlike unranked and ranked queues.
There is no way for AG, Mistpedia, or ESL tournaments to provide more incentive to players. Mistpedia and ESL tournaments are literally cash and gem farming tournaments for the top 4-5 teams. It would be nice to see some new form of incentive given to players.
In the future it would be nice to see the the larger tournaments return because it provided a reason to ALL players to join, not just the best because they can reap the rewards.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
