I’ve read the articles on league division progression and previous articles on guild team leaderboards. The latest article “Announcing the ESL Guild Wars 2 Pro League” has a subsection titled “What if I don’t make the cut” where it states the league team leaderboard has been renamed Guild Challenger League
Prior to reading this I was envisioning a guild team leaderboard that showed ranked guild teams not individual players (there as an article explaining how guild leaders could create guild pvp teams in HoT), but since there will only be eight guild teams in the Guild Challenger League, now it seems we won’t see a a guild team leaderboard at all! Is this true?
Also, while the article is focused on Pro play this comment has me worried “… we strongly felt that there should be a clear and concise path of progression for any team to attempt to make their way into the Pro League.”. Does this mean ArenaNet’s view is that all guild teams playing sPvP have the goal of making it into The Guild Challenge League?
One of the original stated goals of leagues and league divisions was to make GW2 sPvP more approachable to the semi-pro and casual players (those of us with day jobs, families, etc.. who just love the sport of gw2 pvp and want it to offer more than random matches and dungeon gear).
Take a look at your ESL tournament teams. There is an archetype age range and gender for pro team play. That archetype does not represent the majority of pvp players. Having been part of a pro team in a different game about five years ago, I know the time commitment it takes to be at that level and the personal sacrifices a person makes to accomplish that (it’s like anything you want to be the best at). A successful league system will make pvp more fun across the board by giving those in each division the ability to compete with like-skilled teams and have their own bracket at season end.
I’d like to know what league divisions are going to bring for the other 95% of us who don’t make the Guild Challenge League. Most of us know we won’t make the Challenge League because we aren’t able to devote the time needed to it to even be a contender. Those of us who can rationalize the req to accomplish that know from the season start we won’t be going all the way to the very top. What do leagues give us? Will you hold division tournaments at season end so each league division can have a “best of division” champion? I believe adding that one feature would solve this problem. Please explain what league divisions will bring for those of us who just want to be the best in our division? We need to at least be able to know where we rank.
Also, can you please explain pip ownership? When a pip is earned does it belong to a player or a guild team? If it belongs to a guild team is it just applied to the guild in general or does the pip rank only show when the guild team that earned it is in party together? When the pip is lost is it lost for all players in the guild team roster. Is a pvp guild team roster limited to only 5 players or can we have more and let the team captain(s) do rotations?
Thanks
