You must have mistaken it for “keyboard turning” which is basically an insult in PVP terms.

Mouse turning aka Camara turning while using directional keys is the most optimal it widens your field of vision.
ya keyboard turning is very bad , it makes you slow to react and limits your field of view can feel like your driving a tank if you turn and move forward , makes the player easy to predict also easy to target with aoes thanks to the turning circle movements it creates while trying to kite with Keyboard turning.

This is basically keyboard turning in a nutshell. It feels like you’re driving a large tank instead of being capable of the fast movements necessary in PvP.

As long as you could rebind them into turning that would be fine. I personally use A and D for turning if I’m controlling purely the camera manually so that I can still steer while looking around.
I find it pretty hard to believe anyone would not use the mouse to turn, other than for occasionally opening a new beer with one hand.

Years ago I used to game on a laptop and never even had a mouse. I used the touchpad. I could play better than many people with a mouse. Now I have a desktop and a mouse and see how much better it is but it’s very possible to play without.
Only disadvantage it has, and it’s super annoying, is that when still (see: immobilized) it doesn’t turn you. A really clunky control mechanic if you as me. I asked about it but they said it’s too taxing. I’m not sure, most games including WoW etc allow you to turn with your mouse when still with the mouse. Probably one of my biggest annoyances with the games controls. Beyond that though it’s really the only way to turn efficiently.

You say that, but its hilarious how many supposed ‘good pvpers’ keyboard turn in this game. Not even that, MOST necros/rangers especially in 1v1 servers keyboard turn/walk backwards/ strafe.
Coming from a WoW background where this kind of stuff is seriously frowned upon in pvp, i questioned why most self proclaimed good players do this, and the response was, the game is designed for this type of play. Especially rangers. 90% of them walk backwards on their way to winning.
End of the day, dont be a keyboard turner. Learn to use your mouse for turning (its a million times quicker and easier to have map awareness) and save your keyboard buttons for actually useful key-binds. This carries across ANY game in my opinion.
