Okay, I understand this has been brought up many times in the past, but how is it possible to accurately move and play in PvP. I find this extremely difficult. How do I hot key my skills and move with WASD oh and reach down for V if I need to dodge al lat the same time keeping my enemy targeted without a button to engage closest enemy.
Everything seems so clunky and sporadic in matches. I literally cannot keep up with what is going on. I miss half of my skills just because I can’t keep moving with my target.
If I were to be honest I think I cannot PvP in 1st person games unless its a FPS or on console.
I PvP in games such as GW1 and moba’s like LoL. I understand those mechanics very well, and I can see how I can improve. But, in GW2 style PvP I feel I cannot approve unless I get movement down. Any suggestions?

its all a matter of practice. get accustomed to your skills / keybinds and you will be able to play without looking at your UI (except hp) and fully pay attention to your opponent.

knowing all class mechanics, skills and skill animations helps a ton too.

  • Keep right mouse clicked at all times
  • Change mouse sensitivity
  • bind your 6-0 buttons to keys near wasd, such as a,e,r,t,f,g,x and/or extra mouse buttons
and use shift+a,e,r,t,f,g,x or alt+a,e,r,t,f,g,x for extra keybinds.
  • rebind your dodge key, mine is bound to the spacebar

Also getting a mouse with multiple buttons *really* helps - even just a cheap one with back/forward buttons on one side (for web browsing) is great since you can chuck your dodge and one or two utility skills on there (if you want to click your wheel) and save your WASD hand a lot of work.

I agree with you OP, and the overburdened left hand is just probably one of the main reasons why I don’t like playing pvp in this game. Yes yes, the posters above are all right in a way and I’ve done all that (except buying an “MMORPG” mouse… because I just don’t want to do it), but still it doesn’t change the fact that IMHO the combat control in this game is very badly thought out.

It’s like they wanted to move from an MMORPG control type into FPS control type and kinda stopped working on it half way through. To me the game is absolutely game-breakingly clumsy.

Now I’m going give you a little something that makes combat in this game much more bearable.

Don’t know how long this will stay here, because mods will probably remove it, so I might aswell send you a private message…

Sorry but Guild Wars 2 has an extremely easy to grasp combat system. The things you are naming OP are more or less experience related. But rebinding your hotkeys could help a lot. For half of my time playing this game I used double tab for dodging and Shift+1,2,3,4,5 for utility’s. After getting pains in my hands I rebound everything and in two weeks I was nearly back at my old level.

I use RTYFGH as movement with weapon skills starting at 4, this gives me a lot of buttons around my hand to use for F-keys and Utils etc.

I play pretty different.
Movement:
- I keep right click down, and move by holding left and right mouse buttons down.
- jump with space.
- dodge roll with my side-mouse button.
- key kind strafe left/right to mouse buttons.

Attack:
I attack with 1-5
F1-4 for class specific
Heal and utilities are QWERT.

Tab for tabtargetting.

I do pretty well and don’t stumble over anythig.

Rebind, rebind, rebind!

1) Bind a key for autorun
2) Bind a key for dodge (I use and recommend the side mouse button)
3) Bind all keys you need on-demand around your movement keys to minimize the amount your fingers have to move.

This game is no different from other games and is simpler to play than some. (Try playing WoW with over 70 keybinds for all your abilities.) Its just a matter of experience and working with a keybind set that is comfortable for you.

Taugrim has a few posts on keybinds, one of them being about GW2 keybinds:
http://taugrim.com/2012/06/27/guide-to-guild-wars-2-keybinds/

Those keybind suggestions are for right-handed people of course.
Given your post I assume this fits – if you are left-handed, let me know and I will detail you my settings.

Note: Taugrim’s blog also has some other pretty good reads about GW2 and MMO’s in general.

Getting a mouse like a razer or w/e you want..With 12-side buttons will the best investment you made for your pc this year.
