Just curious if this game function is intended, and if so, if there are any plans in the future to make weapon/item swapping a little easier than keybinding “H” to the mouse and clicking the weapon to swap.

It’s opened up an entirely new element to the game now, but now I’m just curious if anyone knows if it’s considered an “exploit” or if it’s an intentional part of game design. If it is, it would be nice to have an option in the future to let you quick scroll through weapon/armor/item sets and re-allocate them quickly in and out of combat.

What? There is a combat weapon swap for most classes anyway. You can tell a noob by someone keeping 1 weapon skill set during an entire game and not swapping up. Some professions don’t have weapon swaps but are compensated for some other thing that changes skills 1-5 like elementalists swapping between fire, lightning, earth, water elements.

I’m speaking in terms of swapping out of combat. Like for instance, I put on my staff as a guardian and use my speed buff, then swap in my Greatsword in place of it. I still have sword and focus on my alternate combat weapon swap. I’m defending a node, so I swap in my Hammer to knock back before combat, so then I’m running Hammer/Sword/Focus. That sort of thing.

I would strongly suspect that this is a carry over effect from the pve side, and that they will lock these things down soon. I can’t imagine why they would allow this. I seem to recall a similar issue in early gw1 that was fixed after people started taking heavy advantage of it. It’s hard to believe they didn’t learn their lesson the first time…

Well, that’s what made me wonder if it’s intentional, but a fast clicker could easily swap out an entire attack set for a complete defense set to bunker. It would take some skill to manage all those icons, I personally couldn’t do it, but feels like it could be game-breaking in the wrong hands.

In the meantime, though, I just want to know the devs stance on this.

everybody could do it so it is not an issue or exploit. if everybody can do it then no one is getting unfair advantage.

That’s completely irrelevant. The issue is not that it’s an unfair advantage — it’s not, you’re right — it’s that it removes any reason to plan anything in advance at all.

That’s what I’m wondering, most of the top teams right now are using things like this to their advantage, and most people don’t because they don’t even know they can.

I think this shouldn’t be in sPvP at all… I complained about that already in the BWE.

If ArenaNet want’s us to such things like change weapon set out of combat, use skill for swiftness or whatever boon, change weapon set back while still having the boons and go in fight… It’s a tedious thing if you have to do that with messing around with the inventory.
And actually you are forced to carry a ton load of weapons with you if you want to be sure that you have most flexibility. And that’s another tedious thing, if you have to take care of all these weapons + sigils and stuff before the match even started…

Your build should be locked, at least when talking about weapons. If you haven’t choosen a build that lets you move quick through the map, than it’s not intended to do so.. With this weapon changing this advantage/disadvantage of builds looses some of its depth!

TL;DR:
Lock weapon sets in the match (at least in tournaments!)!
If you really want to keep it in, at least give us something like THIS!
