Hey there! I have some thoughts to share on how I would like to see the direction of PvP unfold for the next few years. I will leave all the ladder talk and MMR and Glicko talk to the numbers experts, but I do want to touch on what I think would really help the game.

Balance 3 Formats or Shift the Meta Regularly?

I truly believe that balance in any MMO —especially one that tries to balance 3 different modes of play and is adding a fourth mode of play in TDM-- is a nigh impossible task. I really think skill splits across the board are the real answer, but that isn’t gonna happen so here is Plan B. The real thing to do because balance is impossible, is to regularly shift the meta every 2 months. Make people switch up their gear, their 18 month old builds and offer a less stale way to play in a game that will always have things that are OP and broken and flavor of the month. If balance is impossible, why try? Just change it up so that it isn’t so stale. That way we get new and shiny builds every few months and you guys don’t have to listen to us whine ad nauseam that we want the balance issues fixed in a timely manner.

Try Something New

With that in mind, take a new approach. I am not saying to rebuild every trait line from scratch and start over. I am saying, everyone knows the 1-3 builds per profession that are the strongest after a while. Change those up. Make 1-3 new trait set ups that are attractive for every class. If something pops up that someone comes up with and it’s super OP and you guys weren’t prepared for it, fix it promptly. With changes more frequently, you don’t have to play the patience game.

I really think that not doing skill splits for all three formats is really the culprit here. I just don’t see that changing though for whatever reason. While I don’t agree with it, it’s your choice. leaving us hanging with a stale meta for months on end isn’t the way to handle things either. One of those things needs to change. If it isn’t the skill splits then I really hope you guys consider the next best thing and go with a meta that shifts regularly and keeps us the players engaged because there is always something new on the horizon.
