Hi, I’m long time wow player (last time played it in cata and got to 2500 in 3v3 arena).My first char was thief(but I played all classes) and I’m currently rank 24 in PvP .I, like many others found wow boring after so much time and decided to play gw2 and this is my story:

WoW type of balance:

There was never proper pvp balance in “WoW”,it was always some class is OP this patch and so on next patch but there were always few classes that were always good,so it was FOTM and gear check in competitive PvP (arena) aswell if you wanted to hardcore PvP (gladiator wise) it was alot easier if you had PvE legendarys weapons/PvE trinkets.

Only thing I really like about “WoW” PvP was arenas but reason why it won’t be in guild wars 2 (probably) is because there is no “holy trinity” so gw2 arena would last like 1-2min but that wont be problem if we get more game types like CTF or something like “Star Wars Huttball”

So what I and probably most of you like here in gw2 is that there is no PvP gear grind for items that all gear is same and that this game would be " skill based " , and I was hoping all classes would be hard to master but that atm that is not case here and here is why:

Class overview:

Thief dagger/dagger

While thief is class that I started to play first at(BW1) I know pretty much about it.First I tried d/d thief and I like it but after some time it felt you auto attack too much(condition build spam “Deadly blossom” to evade and bleed enemies)(power build spam auto attack/spam “Heartseeker” when foe is on low hp),

Dancing daggers” = rarely used because u just don’t need to slow enemies at most of time because we don’t lack mobility.

Cloak and Dagger” = used from now and then , mostly for “backstab” spammers,now note that “backstab” base damage is not the problem,but singet 150% damage multiplier

So glass canon thief build d/d without that singet would be useless because thief with this spec dies so fast its not even funny.

Can thief one shoot some people with backstab?
-Yes he can if target is glasscanon and if target didn’t see that thief is coming for him.

Thief shortbow – Mostly used by thieves as second weapon set, good for mobility and “AoE” damage output.

I won’t be commenting on shortbow much because there is not much to say

Thief Pistol/Pistol – This spec at the moment is at bad state, some traits don’t work well for this spec.

What I would like for this spec is good amount of health and ability to leech health more then now.

Thief sword/pistol – Most notorious build after nerf of “heartseeker” spam. So lets review abilities first.

1)Infiltrator’s Strike – This ability is great, thief in and out mechanism.

2)Pistol Whip – This is only good damage source after auto attack and for that people spam it to death.

3)Headshot – This is very well made, nothing imo should be changed at this ability.

4) Black Powder – Not much to be said for this ability,its great against melee classes.

So what Thieves s/p commonly do is teleporting to target by steal or Infiltrator’s Strike and then haste + 2x pistol whip and target is dead or close but imo this is noob check(remember 100b wars?now nobody complaints because they learned to play), against good players there is so many options to escape this and punish thief.

Thief Sword/dagger – Don’t have any idea how to fix this spec.(I don’t think anyone actually plays this)

Thief Dagger/pistol – Actually not bad weapon choice good mobility, good interrupt/blind.

Overall thief imo seems to auto attack way to much and for skill based game it shouldn’t be so.

I’m sorry I won’t write about each class completely because it would take so much time, il just say generally what needs to be said.

This class imo in competitive PvP can be played only as support or point holder,while it can still do damage the way its played is to “outlast” your opponent.

I played this class dagger/dagger and all I can say is that I enjoyed most in this game by playing this class, its so dynamic and so many abilities to use, there is no time where I don’t have something to do (Auto attacking is almost non-existant ) if I die I know its by my mistake,but its only one spec as far as I saw that really works,Imo

I would love if all classes in this game made me feel like this one,to have so many options,e.g. Ele have (20 skills+5 utility)but other classes normally have 5+5 weapon switch +5 utility.

Didn’t play warrior as much as other classes but I think they are not in so bad shape at the moment. Warrior needs some but not so many buffs to certain things.

Remember how you got owned by 100 blades for first time when you didn’t know whats happening and most people cried and called it “OP”? well its not “OP” its mediocore at best, Warrior needs little tweaking and it will be alright I think, feel free to correct me if i’m wrong about this.

Now this is class that is pretty strong at current state very good survivability and damage output and considered as one of, if not best point holder.

Guardian is pretty balanced class in many things you can play it with many different styles that works well.

Well only thing that isn’t balanced about guardian is his defensive build, it has so much control(knockdowns,walls,barriers) and ability to sustain so much damage and cleanse conditions too often ( from traits passive 1 every 10 sec), from heal 1 every 10 sec , from utility to convert conditions to boons etc.

So what should be done is to remove his passive cleansing completely and lower cooldown from utility cleanse from 60 sec to 15 sec (making it more skill based and not passive based)And maybe to nerf some defensive traits but not much so he can’t hold 2 people on him for 5 min tweak some abilities. Point holding is part of tactics but facerolling is not.

Problem with this class I think is same problem as thief class, too much auto attack, not much choice to do something else (but not that limited), some buffs to spirit spec is needed.

Mesmer, master of deception now this is class that was rarely seen at the begining, not many people decided to play it but after some people mastered this class and people saw it was really strong class, "fotm "wave came (like “heartseeker” thieves before)

So people atm consider mesmer class to be must on competitive pvp and here is why.
Mesmer have great mobility,great damage and really good deception skills.Mesmer as many of you know is mostly going on trebuchet at last tournament map because he can defend it pretty good and if destroyed he can make portal and get repair kit so fast, like no other class and this imo should not be allowed because need of mesmers gets big.

Mesmer ulti “Moa morph” we all know whats this, it seems really powerful tool if used properly and I think they should put 5 sec duration insted of 10 but as well halve the cooldown from 180 sec to 90 sec.

When you downstate mesmer atm and he clones himself you can see which illusion is real because there is arrow pointing besides his head and when before ladder comes this should be fixed imo.

I’m sorry but this is only class that I didn’t play in pvp yet so I can’t comment much on it.

Necromancer class that was very powerful at BW1 was nerfed big time till the release.
So lets start with necro’s fear duration 1 sec. I mean what is this ? Thief/warrior and even rangers pet have larger duration on fear than necromancers

Class that is master of undead has useless pet build? Pet being bugged and having so little hp / dying from random “AoE” effects and so on.

Vamp spec necro is useless, doesn’t work properly.

Necro’s teleport is crap compering to other classes teleport, like thieves / elementalists / mesmers they all have instant (get out of jail card :P )

Necromancer is class with most bugged traits that either doesn’t work at all or properly.

first i honestly never expected any class to be hard to master. years of gaming plus watching the gaming industry change led me to this tho.

secondly ill make the rest of my replies in regards to thief. (dont worry, ill be polite!)

First you say multiple times we autoattack too much, why is this a problem? only time i autoattack a lot is if i dont want to abuse initiative for utility/backstab. and it does a good job. autoattack is a big part of this game in fact.

dancing dagger has its uses, it does great damage vs 2 enemies (bounce between them) and there are plenty of times you want a slow (tho imo it lasts too short, maybe 3 seconds instead of 2). you can argue it doesnt pair well with the D/D set maybe?

CnD and backstab spammers? you do realize if your power build dagger mainhand then backstab is your main form of burst damage? if your not using it, your playing the weapon spec wrong, and could be why you feel it autoattacks too much.

i agree assassins signet is a issue tho.

problem with pistol/pistol is body shot is rather useless, and unload doesnt pair well with its autoattack and sneak attack. imo make it more centered on single target bleeds and the build could shine.

sword/dagger needs its pathing fixed on flanking

ill let other people decide on sword/pistol. never a spec i liked even when i tried it.
