My criticisms
Actually if you look around all of multiple forums Devs have been responding. Also if you look at the patch notes Devs are clearly fixing things on a weekly basis. Also MMOs that are knowingly going to be releasing expansions for will upkeep their game, because if they don’t nobody would want to buy the expansion for a game they have completely lost interest in. Yes, the PvP system is kind of borked right now. To easy to zerg or play a faceroll class and be rewarded handsomly for doing so. Yes tourneys are broke right now as there is no matchmaking system in play yet. The matchmaking system I’m sure will probably go through 2 phases, an initial phase, for balancing out the skill of players, and then using those equally skilled player matches to check for proper balancing of classes, and skill placement in general. It will then probably be reset and implemented for real after classes are fairly balanced across the board and the real system gets in play, where it is no only about what class you play, but how well you play it and know what you counter, and what counters you.
I would like to echo your opinion that the game still feels like a Beta atm. Speaking from pvp here, although dungeon difficulty is totally out of whack at parts as well, and many skill points and such are still broken. Bugs i can let slide, but the aforementioned 2 points sure make this game feel like a Beta.

So you agree that we are playing a BETA stage game, and actually had to pay to help Anet finish developing their game.
Quote: “….and be rewarded handsomly for doing so.”
- Can you explain how you get rewarded in anyway besides dressing up you charecter, like it was a doll.
Again thats in sPvP where zerging is encouraaged and rewarded, much the same as in WvW. It’s casual PvP much the WoW battlegrounds where it was screw the objectives just go maul the enemy team and fight as far away from objectives as possible to farm honor. The only difference doing so in GW2 does not give you an increase in stats for playing in a mindless idiot zergfest. Rare as it is from what I have seen in tPvP without matchmaking at the moment, playing against and actually skilled player, and coming out victorious feels like a win enough and accomplishment for me. Again there are still a boatload of bugs right now, and yes while the game might still have the feel that it is in beta, I think it was more of an it got overhyped and therefore had to be rushed to get released before the hype died down and people went to look elsewhere for their fun.

if the game only has 1 way of “rewarding”, which do you think he was refering to?
and yes, it is “rewarding”, like it or not.
(edited by keroksi.3076)
The reward should come from the so called gameplay revolving around skill. Which is a point the game isnt at yet. For various reasons. Not the stats on the gear.
I think it was more of an it got overhyped and therefore had to be rushed to get released before the hype died down and people went to look elsewhere for their fun.
Once again i agree and think this is the case, or that they where just in need of a financial boost. Point is it does feel rushed. Anyway i probably agree with anything you say anyway so i’ll stop spamming the thread with my pessimistic opinions. (Actually im hopeful for GW2, but it will take time for sure and i hope i can wait long enough)

I just wanted to pass some push pops and bicycle helmets out…
ok we’re all kitten up with the anet policies about PvP.
But 43285728587320259827952389328457z285973287582952 whine threads would change it atm.
The saddest thing is, in the alphforum were exactly the same posts about matchmaking/8on8 hotjoin/competitive pvp and Anet ignored it there too.
meeeeeh i’m just frustrated too.

I have Played ALOT of WoW Ranked PvP, and as i said in my tread this is about Competitive PvP. What you are saying cannot be far from true, atleast if you are playing Competitive. In Wow you have Rated battleground where you are rewarded no honor, just Conquest Points if you win the match (Not Guarding Captured Points would be stupid). And Same as with their Arenaes. Mindless Zerging in Random WoW Battle grounds can be referred to as a “Leveling progress”. You do not get the best gear by being an idiot, you get the best gear by earning it.
Quote: “…..and therefore had to be rushed to get released”
- Kinda just backs up my point.
at this point, i can only hope to have a good, competitive game after some months from now.
because the game is not competitive( no ladders, no custom matches, no ranking) neither balanced ( lol mesmers and guardians).
kittenon of bugs ( LoS ingored, pets following you EVERYWHERE in the map, stealth bugged as crap), this game is no different from the beta tons of us have already played.
At least, the game is fun: i’m leveling my char, something i wouldn’t do if PvP was actually fine, waiting for a HUGE rebalancing/bug fixing.
I’ll suggest you all to do the same.
World of Warcraft was worse in every way when it came out. It didn’t even have ranked PvP, or any PvP for that matter besides World PvP. Just grab yourself a tissue and let the game develop.

Besides, why are you on a different side of me ?
If it makes you feel better, this is how all MMO games are launched. This is one of the smoothest I have ever been a part of.
Should we accept that MMOs at launch are always incomplete? Now that is a different question…
Despite the bugs and problems, this has been by far one of the best MMO releases I’ve ever played. Hell, games like UO had launch-style bugs, exploits, and technical issues every major patch.
I do agree, however, that it feels beta-ish due to the lack of features. Extremely basic server browser, no matchmaking, and stupid bugs that should have been fixed many months ago still plague some classes and items. Like Rangers and Signet of Renewal. This is an obviously terrible design for the only consistent condition removal of the class. Pet has to be alive, and in range for it to work, but half the time it bugs out and doesn’t work even if the above are true.
Class balancing pretty much always come post-release. That’s just obvious. The relatively small pool of testers (if they even have them internally) can’t find out all of the OP, broken, and UP setups, abilities, and traits by themselves. It’s only been a month and you expect perfect balance? Aside from the fact that absolute, perfect balance in a class-based game is a pipe dream, it’s only been onekittenmonth.

I decided i wont even touch pve when i started gw2, but after a while the pvp came megaboring and unbearable, so i decided to try pve while waiting for fixes.
Now my char is lvl80 and i should either start farming dungeons (that i dont like btw) OR farm the event for that other pink thingy (karma?)(that i dont like aswell) So i come back to PvP forums to read whats up and i find out that there is nothing up. Their not even ready to put anything on text format.
So should I just throw the game into some corner and wait for a year or so for the beta period to stop. Or force myself to play this carbage a little each day to stay competitive.

what rank are you?
what is your highest pvp achievement?
how many tournaments have you won?
ss of your pvp achievement page?
I can size up your just a noob looking for attention on forums.
So you decided not to answer my question. Let me answer yours anyways. (No idea why)
GW2 PvP Have absolutely no achivement. The more time you spend the higher rank / AP ypu earn. Nothing about skill involved here.
So my Highest PvP achivement would be Gladiator in WoW season 7.
That i felt like took some skill atleast
maybe “l2p or go back to wow” should of been the response then.
So you haven’t won many games or tournaments yet all of a sudden you and your 4 friends are the best and there is no competition?

You do realize that rank only tells how hard you have been farming, right? And one of the best ways of doing it is running 5x thiefs and zerging everything that moves.
What comes to tournament wins, just play with premades and that only guarantees you more than 70% winrate.

It did, it’s not complete crap. Did you play WoW when it first came out? It was littered with massive amounts of bugs and exploits. Don’t even get me started about the balance. There was no Battlegrounds nor Arena, no raids besides UBRS. No dungeon or Tier sets, the chat system was terrible. Finding a group was ridiculously hard due to the chat channels. All in all, GW2 is way better off then WoW ever was when it launched by a landslide.

but does he even have 20 tournament wins? is he even over rank 20?
I have played games with pugs and won against premades who try to do all mesmers, all warriors, and all thieves. It doesnt work plain and simple
Im sure everyone likes to believe there are op cant be beat classes but those people are just showing how unskilled they are in gw2.
I have over 124 tournament wins mostly in solo que. Trust me the competition is out there. This guy is just a troll.
Id love to see a major overhaul of the pvp system and class abilitys, I hate the fact all class’s are designed around switching weapons and attunments, a drastic rework of class abilitys, new maps, ctf, dm, duels 2v2 3v3, rewards, ranks, remove downed state, the list is endless, why all the stuff thats tried and tested and works is not here in the first place, why does it need to be asked for…
Gankfest.4965
Comparing WoW realease with GW2 release is abdundant, they are more than 7 years apart, which means GW2 had 7 years to improve.
Besides GW2 have had a ton of other MMO’s to learn from aswell.
The tourney system is the matchmaking itself. The team that you’ll be facing in the last round did the same thing that you did – beat 2 teams. So you beat two teams and the other team beat two teams and it is an estimate that you have the same skill level. However if the other team roflstompped you, that means they are just better than you. But if you got to the last round without voice chat and the other team stomped you, it is most likely that the other team has voicechat.
Exploits, Poor Balance, No Ranked Systems.
Tournaments are basically just my 5 man group facerolling every setup we meet, since it’s mostly random ppl we play against. Then ofc we meet some lame setups, based on unbalanced classes, some of them are almost impossible to counter. And yeah we try switching classes during game.
I can’t help to laugh at what you said here. You claim that you want more of a challenge and still you refuse to accept that people are simply better than you. If there are some ’’lame’’ setups that are impossible to counter, run them yourselves and see how you do. A rating system is on the way and unless you have 100% winrate and can give us proof of how many tournaments etc. you’ve played, just don’t bother posting.

" abdundant" Doesn’t make any sense in that statement. I whole heartily proved my case. Since the majority uses WoW as the ladder, I must so as well. When it comes down to the game; if you don’t like it, don’t play it. Really just as simple as that…. Good Day. :P

Not really, you can be solo que and get matched up against a full guild in first round. I wouldn’t exactly call that matchmaking as it already has a name. It’s called pubstomping. Basically just a public server that matches same size teams, with no reguards to classes that are already in the match, most tourney games especially in rounds 1 or 2 you will see a lot of 3 guards, 3 thiefs, or 3 mesmers. Usually easy to win those – the one with multiple guards unless every person on your team is specced to output massive condition damage.
Mindrel.2375
So what you are saying is that you do not believe that some setups are almost impossible to counter.
Atm i play 3 differetn classes that i all like to play. I don’t want to be forced to go with the same setup over and over again. And i don’t think GW2 intended it to be this way aswell. But that’s merely a question about balancing classes out. That issue i do understand, what i don’t is the fact there is no competitive aspect of the game. Yeah you can battle about who can exploit the most, but where is the fun i that ?

sure they had other mmo’s to learn from and they have learn from those… look at wow balance vs GW2 balance… i dont see any pve gear dominating gw2 do you? it took wow 7 years to fix pve gear in pvp and reading what GC said to ajunkies mop pvp will just be same kitten like cata

Im rank 14 myself and i believe i would be lot more if i plaid a roamer, didnt defend points and play for the team in general.
I hate the op/up discussion myself, but i think player X winning 5 random mesmers on a day X doesnt qualify as a proof for mesmers not being OP (and pls DO understand that this is not my own opinion. I used mesmer just as an example.)
When battles are more than often 2v2+ the thing that annoys me the most is the amount of summons/pets/illusions and flashy effects that makes it literally impossible to see visuals on those 3 asuras that are running around you. Thus making abilities like 100blades and pistolwhip with haste a really stupid mechanic.
Downed state is a mess aswell.. I hate that it is (again) literally impossible to win a 1v2 against almost anything, no matter how much you outplay them.
Almost every profession being identic in looks is also annoying.
Gimmicky specs like the immortal deathblossom thief is justkitten (would be easy to fix, but their more worried about woman audios etc)
There is no option for targets target or enemies targeting you, so calling the combat skillbased is an insult.. its stratetic and nothing more. Move your peons to right places at right time and you win.
Id got loads more, but this is already getting totally derailed from what i intended to write so ill just hit the reply now and be happy with it

Exactly Sanis.
The thing that urks me the most is people are complaining about the same things I complained bout before I put in another 100-150hrs of pvp. The only difference between me and them is I didn’t go to a forum and start qq about it.
I hope the developers are very good at filtering garbage posts like this one and just tell people L2P
The ONLY thing Arenanet has done wrong is not take the time to teach new players how to play. You litteraly have to hold peoples hands these days and teach them how to play. even Gamespot said the reason they gave GW2 a 9.0 instead of a perfect 10 is because they did a mediocre job of explaining things.
League of Legends is the highest played online game because they have Champion spotlights, recommended builds, and tutorials. Arenanet HAS TO TEACH PEOPLE how to play otherwise they will get noob posts like this one all day long.

I still don’t understand how anyone bought this game knowing very well what features the game is lacking. Here’s a real shocker: You didn’t need to buy the game.
Season 7 eh ?
Ah the lovely memories or armor penetration or meeles + the burst of all the casters (like the hundread blades) :P
Yeah i remember the burst = skill (without the ability to avoid it) :P
I like how his team beats everyone because they are skilled, but the people they lose to are using comps that “can’t be countered”.
i agree with this guy. this game is incomplete. most skills are bugged. once go to necromancer forum. and look at the amount of bugs.
Wonder why Moderaters renamed my tread from the original title:
“Did i just pay 54,99.- for a BETA game ?”
