I feel like that of all the youtube videos made for gw2 pvp, 80% of them are thieves and the other 20% are mesmers and rangers.

its because its incredibly fun to watch a thief play. extremely active gameplay.and with the lack of cooldowns a thief can go from 1 fight immediately into another. where other classes might need to wait for cooldowns.

I’m pretty sure it has more to do with demographic that plays the class than anything to do with the class’s mechanics.
Like when I played SW:TOR, 80% of the pvp videos where concealment operatives and deception assassins.

What are you implying? I would be careful here, because it is just your assumptions and are not based on any real statistics.
I personally think, at least in current state of classes, thief is about only fun class to play (and watch) due to high risk, active gameplay and required good map awareness, rotations etc. I have tried different classes, i can switch to them if we really need something else but i found them extremely boring to play.
I also actually see more DHs than anything else in matches so i don’t think there are THAT many thieves in pvp atm.
As for video, was there something special i was supposed to see? I saw core thief wasting dodges randomly, using signet of shadows, double capping point o_o

I’m implying that various personas and personality types are attracted to certain archtypes in RPGs, and that the thief/assassin/rogue archtype tends to get all the “I’m important enough for youtube!” types.

Aion was also plagued with scout classes, Archeage (lol) was infested by stealth and Perfect World (Old CN game) as well, full of Archers and Assassins. So it’s pretty obvious that the classes with the strongest dueling kits (stealth is a huge selling point) that depend on absolutely no one else but yourself are always the most popular and the easier to play the better. For most people it never has to do with how “risky” they are to play, people just want to win for the sake of winning so they give zero kittens about any “honor”.
Right now the riskiest class to play is Revenant and so what… it is still rare as kitten.
Stealth by default is stupid strong.

GL finding any youtube videos from me (beside records of bugs) and i have been playing thief-like classes in every game. One of my favorite game is Thief series actually (although Dishonored comes close). Bottom line, it is just your assumption and nothing else, don’t throw everyone in the same bucket based on class alone.
@XxsdgxX.8109: thief hasn’t been good for dueling for years now… what are you talking about? In GW2 pvp, last thing you should be doing as thief is dueling……

Obviously not every thief is a youtuber, but of the youtubers a disproportionately large amount of them are thieves.
I’ve been in enough rpgs to notice that certain behavioral types are more prolific on certain classes than on others.
I keep hoping that someone will fund a research team to analyze rpg players. I’m willing to bet they would find all sorts of correlations between psychology and class choices.
