My perspective wayyyy off
dude it’s okay if you team que all day for 50 matches you can get 15 gold per day. and in a couple of weeks you’ll have enough gold to buy the armor that PVE skyhammer masters can buy first day.
Two things, snowballing & RNG. If you have a lot of money and you keep reinvesting you will get bigger and bigger nominal return for each investment. When you reach a certain point where, say, you can offer a little more to buy mats for crafting and sell a little less for a little lower margin but massive in size, the market is yours. Remember, vanity items asides, gw2 market is pretty much all about commodities. Then there is rng, not in a sense of once in a lifetime lucky precursor drop but in a sense at which when u have thousands of golds to buy hundreds and hundreds of exotics to drop in the mystic forge, statistics(not rng anymore) says that you are BOUND to get precursors back. Either the normal exotics are undervalued or the precursors are overvalued, at this point you are BOUND to make profits. There you go, a brief demonstration on how to be rich in gw2.
So, I believe my disconnect from the rest of Tyria has caused me to misunderstand what a lot of gold is. When I crafted my thief to 80 and then bought him all of his exotics, it was around 25 gold for it all. That was a ton to me. I remember thinking, “Man, I bet there are people with 300+ gold in this game.”
I just watched a stream with a guy in WvW that had 16k gold. Is this how far I am behind from playing on SPVP since head start?
same here. and anet and a lot of others still refuse to give me ca. 250 gold for soloq/teamq wins before 10.12.. cause it would shake the market if i would by t3-armor at new vendor.
hmmmm i play casually in most what guild wars 2 have to offer since day minus 3 (pre purchaser allows 3 days head start)
i have
- 800gold (i spend less, casual PvE player, world completion 81%)
- one howl (warhorn precursor, bought it from guild member for 12gold)
- no legendary weapons (them tier 6 materials!)
- full bank slots upgrades (launch week, bought lots of 100 gems with 25silvers)
- full bag slots upgrade for my warrior (gems were cheap during launch week)
- 13 character slots (recent months i spent 250+ gold on gems)
- zero gems (i do not keep spare gems)
- sPvP rank 31 wolf finisher (casual sPvP player)
- 133k glory points (casual sPvP player)
- WvW rank 50+ (casual WvW, 100% WvW maps completion though)
- warrior’s skill points 500+ (warrior is my first and main character)
- 12.5k achievements points (living stories!)
- 420+ laurels (i like saving up)
- various dungeon tokens (highest with AC tokens around 1.2k, 0 CM tokens though)
- 1.6m+ karma
