As many of you are aware, we received many reports that the winners of July’s Monthly tournament were not played by the owners of those accounts. After a thorough investigation, we have found that these accusations are true.
We are taking this very seriously. The following 10 players listed below have been given permanent dishonor.
Naru and alts
Nos and alts
Wakkey and alts
Toker and alts
Zeromis and alts
Asuna Proxy
Forever I Promise
Love Them Boons
Jolly Karen
Makus
In addition, we have removed prizes gained by the winning players and have cleared the statues. They will retain the titles for a short while until we can remove them in the future.
We will be continuing to monitor tournaments in the future.
It would not deter future buyers because the buyers are now only prevented from participating in pvp (which they did not participate in previously), they are pve-ers. In no way was their regular routine game play affected (aka pve and some wvw for pips). Slap on the wrist for the pve-ers. But better that something was done as opposed to nothing at all.

The buyers are down $400 each and I doubt they are getting there money back, Abjured did there job and got them first place, not their fault the buyers had likely never pvp’d before thus making it super obvious they paid someone to play for them.
When you ban half of your pvp scene and wonder why it’s dying out

Good bait, but needs more salt.
Wasn’t bait. Was the truth. Legit banned the NA pvp scene so now what high tier gameplay are we gonna watch?
NA pvp scene is officially non-existant now ezpz

Anet will likely do more tournaments with cash prizes with the expansion as a publicity stunt. I presume these people will be banned for those. Hilarious and awesome. They spend thousands of hours playing a game nobody else plays to a reasonable level and then get themselves banned before a potential restart of anet prize money,
Literally the best example of karma ever. These people really kittened themselves over lol

I just heard one of them was running around in wvw with the crown, confirm/deny that the crown was removed please.

I will check with CS. If you could pm me details, that would help.
I do believe that their actions are serious, and I appreciate anet’s transparency. However, a permanent ban from pvp for people who only pvp is basically a perma-ban entirely, which seems contrary to anet’s usual banning philosophy. From what I understand, perma bans are almost never given out-bans are usually a 1-2 year-thing.
I’m speaking not to defend the actions of these players, but to ask why anet has taken a somewhat different and aggressive stance here. I kindly ask Ben or another dev here to explain this decision further.

RMT, account sharing and basically ruining the first Monthly Tournament (on NA) would be my guess.

Maybe because Anet spent months working on this new tournament system only to have the FIRST monthly AT cheated by the top players they built this specific system for, for personal gain and greed. What they did was disrespectful and toxic and makes SPvP, something Anet has been trying to rebuild and promote, a joke.

Are you kidding me? They just earned $400.00 each for their actions, they can buy new accounts if they want to play that badly…
There’s some people on that list I wish weren’t banned but I’d rather you guys have a hard stance than a weak one (like Blizzard does in Overwatch). Good job.
Im so happy and thankfull this happend, now we can have fair game and a MUCH less manipulated matches, GOOD JOB anet u deserve my admiration on how efficient u did this. CHEERS, keep up the good work!.

It is obvious. They spent ages making flagship automated tournaments and then in the very first one it was ruined by players. This hurts anets business. Hype for these ATs is now dead due to the actions of these players. It has killed ATs as players no longer have faith in them. It cheapens the winning of the tournaments. In short, this really hurt anet and the pvp community. Such an action deserves a long ban.

Just to clarify my statement as a lot of people seem to replying to it→I understand the reasons for the ban: RMT, account sharing, abuse of game systems, etc. What I’m looking for though is clarification as to why it was necessarily a perma-ban, as opposed to the usual lengthy temp ban of a one to a few years.
