.Cheatand only pvp ban, what a joke.
They didn’t cheat but won the tournament fair and square.
The only they are guilty of is account sharing.
You really can’t go with real world money transactions in light of they were paid by a net to play in proleague and make money off of twitch streams.
The competitive integrity of the tournament wasn’t compromised since the results of the tournament were never in question. What’s actually done is people put a price tag on thed rewards.
I was trying not to comment, but this nonsense of defending them needs to stop. Anet, ToS/UA, and the vast majority of the community disagree (Anet and ToS is all that matters in the end, and Anet owes no further explanation in light of whatever evidence they have). They shouldn’t be masquerading around at all. Who knows what other shorts of nefarious things they are doing to ruin the sPvP game and community. Getting off light in most people’s estimation.
As far as the integrity of the game, I have serious doubts that any of their defenders understand concepts like integrity, fairness, and sportsmanship. If they did, they wouldn’t be attempting to defend something that is universally understood as cheating.
For example, now that the end of summer is upon us; football is right around the corner. I suppose I should go out and hire the local professional, or semi-professional, college or high-school football team to compete for my son’s 8th grade middle school team so as to insure they win their district? Yeah, no outcry would ensue from other parents and schools. It’s all good and fair as long as we win, right? What’s the difference? Both are games, but one is on a field and the other on a screen. Otherwise, people are invested equally expecting the same competitive fairness and integrity as stated in the rules of the game. I enjoy GW2, it’s my out after a long day. I like to compete, always have, but the last thing I want are match manipulators taking away any chance at real competition by any sort of cheating!

How is impersonating a person to play and won in a tournament not cheating when anet clearly stated it in the ToS/UA?
The competitive integrity of the tournament was clearly compromised in this case.
Azukas and Kdaddy are having a very, very, hard time grasping some very, very, basic concepts of sportsmanship.

You are comparing apples to rocket ships.
- This was an open tournament meaning anyone could enter.
- They did not cheat. They won the matches fair and square.
- people make money off of streams, fan sites, and third party tournaments.
what they did was account share. therefore, while they did win, they forfeit the prize.
so why are they sharing accounts ?
Why not use their own accounts ?
They won in terms of skills but used someone else acct? that in my eye is still cheating and has to be a reason why they were sharing accounts and not their own.
Cheating is cheating, i get some of the comments that they won fair and sq because of there skills but in the long run they used another account that wasn’t theirs and thats still cheating IMO. You can be the best but if you aren’t doing it under your own account who cares if you are the “best” if it wasn’t done on your own acct?

They were paid ($400 per person) to win the tournament by the people who owned the account.
That’s all they did wrong.
They didn’t cheat in the game nor did they manipulate anything. In fact since this happened the losing team in the finals stated that everyone knew it was them. So after they lost in the finals they started this witch hunt against the Abjured.
No where in the entire situation did a single injured player cheat

If they all bought new accounts and used those by your definition thats cheating.
They gained literally ZERO advantage by using another players account.
Did they break the ToS? Yes but that’s not always cheating. If it was then swearing in map chat would considered cheating along with naming ur character a racial slur.
Starting to understand now?
lol are we really breaking down the definition of cheating here
Technically the guys who paid the Abjured to play for them are the ones who cheated by hiring ringers.
The Abjured guys enabled this cheating by agreeing to play for someone else under a false banner.
They also allegedly accepted real money to do this.
At best this is still incredibly poor sportsmanship and fundamentally displays a complete lack of respect for the game and the company running it. I only wish they’d taken a harsher stance sooner on this sort of thing.

Nonsense! They misrepresented themselves and the team that paid them (who should also receive appropriate discipline)! Open tourney means YOU and YOUR team shows up, not someone(s) pretending to be your team – total misrepresentation and mockery of team competition, therefore the analogy is appropriate. They won their matches? Those matches were not theirs to begin with, how in the world is that fair? If the parties involved are willing, both the ones soliciting and those offering services, how in the world can you expect them to not cheat in other ways? They have gone this far, and they received money, they now have to deliver the goods; fairly? I have serious reservations! Finally, what do streams, fan sites and party tourneys have to do with being paid to play for another team, which is clearly a violation of ToS/UA? People defending these actions are probably doing the same sorts of things that’s why they see nothing wrong with it! Total nonsense defending these actions!
Things people do for currency/money xD
- I am currently a main thief roamer for SF in WvW. LOVE ME!

so they cheated……….. the people that won at the end weren’t the actual players from the whole tournment and on top of that they got paid…… how is that not consider cheating if they weren’t the one playing from there own accts?
like I UNDERSTAND your arugment as to the whole skill concept and the whole “them” not being the best in NA however thats down right just cheating bro. Regardless if it’s something that has “always” been happening it doesn’t change the fact it’s dirty lol. That’s cheating regardless of what way you want to spin it around lol.
If we played in a Super Smash brother tournament UNDER my name but it wasn’t me playing the entire time and winning every fight your telling me that wouldn’t be consider cheating at all? The moment they got paid to play in someone else acct it was 100% consider wrong/cheating.

They didn’t bought new accounts, they were paid to impersonate some one to enter the tournament and win for them.
They didn’t get dishonor because they won the tournament, this point was completely mute, they got dishonor because they impersonate other people and enter the tournament for them which broke the ToS/UA
permanent dishonor meaning just this season? Or For all seasons to come?
All seasons.
Bit harsh…
I barely play these days but I need these pro players in my games to present a challenge and provide fun.
Lol, who cheats for $400 in a game they have some notoriety in?
Oh yeah, Losers
Or smart people… that’s a week wage to most people.
I enjoy the game, but it’s exactly that, a game. Go and tell someone in real life that you made the leaderboards of GW2 and see how impressed they are…
….. And Elementalist.

To be completely honest I don’t blame them for trying. The PvP scene is in major decline, bug reporting for cheating goes largely unnoticed, they probably assumed they could make a quick buck off of A-nets incompetence. That being said they’re not stupid in regards to knowing that there might have been retaliation if things didn’t go smoothly. Out of the people punished one of them is a friend of mine, but they kinda had it coming.
I don’t really blame A-net for being heavy handed because they want to make an example out of “popular names” who in which I’m sure a few of them felt untouchable based off their status in the game to remind them that you have to follow the rules. However if you are hellbent on misbehaving, follow this one step.

I feel like it’s less about making an example, and more that these players have repeatedly cheated, match manipulated, RMT, and more. Anet gave them dishonor several times and they still kept going, this time in a rather public fashion. It’s a result of the repeated offenses, not just setting an example.
Competitive Warrior, Ele, Mesmer, Ranger, Engineer, Thief
Abjured got what they deserved. If I was Anet I would actually sue them and want 1 million $ cause they ruined GW2 pvp tournament reputation.
