Necros don’t counter bunker mesmers, they need to reduce the amount of blur/evades, and prevent caps when certain skills are used as sunfish noted above. Blocks have counter plays, so blocks aren’t an issue, Anet is nerfing the wrong thing tomorrow.

Pretty much this, I don’t think people understands how much of a nerf to the shield that is either.

Agreed that merely reducing the shield block duration is not enough. The suggestions Fish listed would be enough to make bunker mesmers more competitive with other classes.

People complain about the mindless spamming in this meta, these suggestions would go a very long way in fixing that. At least the mesmer would have to communicate with another teammate to stand on point, outside of the precog well, to prevent losing the cap.

Bunker mesmers would still have great mobility with portal, as well as fantastic utility, especially in the res department.

It’s not a hardcounter, since most bunkers are designed not to have hard counters, but it’s probably one of the better ones:

- Bunker-Mesmers aren’t too great against conditions, that’s why many now use temporal enchanter+ null field. -> Necro has tons of condis.
- Bunker-Mesmers heavily rely on boons -> Necro has strong boonstrip.
- Mesmers are susceptible to AoE (Illusions, ppl need to stand in the wells/ null field/ Staff 5: Necro has some of the best AoE in the game, or reaper that is.
- Necro’s are also much better against slow, sustained dmg and not too great against tons of burst and high-dps comps; fits the meta perfectly!
- Mesmer has the shield-block: Necro has tons of unblockable stuff.

The biggest problem with Necros was, that they get countered so incredibly hard by tempest and condi-rev.

Another problem was, that condi-rev kinda did many of the things the necro did, just better: condition-spam, boonstrip, strong against conditions itself etc. -> with a small nerf to rev, ppl might actually have to make a conscious decision if they wanna use necro or rev! ^^’

Also, one of the thing that makes bunker mesmer so strong is their ability to rez everyone, but this is mostly due to the inability to cleave downed because of infuse light. With this gone, the efficiency of bunker mesmer rez is significantly reduced.

So basically 90% of the participants are Tempest/ Chrono /Revenant.

E-sport lol…
Seriously this 200k US dollar is a waste of money right now.
Put them back and use that resource to balance your game.

First step being splitting PVE and PVP traits/skills. Otherwise people would suffer in raid because of nerf while pvp will stay broken.

I’d just like to point out that there was 2 tank Mesmers per team, except for ZC, and ezpz, only having 1 per team. Bunker mesmer really needs more adjusting than just a little bit of its block duration removed.

I’d personally suggest not allowing to hold a cap with precog well, nerf perma alacrity, and dont change the block duration, just make it so there arent 2 blocks.

Durability Runes also need a change that is more than just reducing its boon duration by 5% which is a bug fix.

Anet likes this balance which is why no changes needed. A new meta will come out in like 3 months and it will probably be like this again with some other classes.

REVENANT need to get DELETE. Then, people will start to play Maurauder, Berzerker Skills Build. Then… no one will play bunker mesmer anymore, not enough damage to make it worthwhile.

Funny how people want to nerf something that they can’t kill but that something is there because REVENANT is everywhere killing anyone.

Adjusting classes to “balance” a gameplay mode thats built on bunkering points is like applying a bandaid on third degree burns and hope it helps. Your never going to get around the fact that yes, the gameplay mode is indeed built on bunkering points.

I don’t how the pvp devs can’t look at stuff like this and not be totally embarrassed and be like we have to fix this as soon as possible. I understand to a degree saying originally we need a few months to gather data but this is obviously an emergency the sane reasonable response is to adjust the original strategy and make major balance changes sooner rather then let the patient die on the operating table. I honestly would be so embarrassed if I failed at my job like this although I would probably be fired.

Alacrity, too powerful as it stands, should be a boon instead of an effect :

  • it can already be shared to allies
  • and stacks in duration, up to being permanent, which may be fine,
  • but having no specific counter isn’t viable.

Boonstrip would become an effective counter (removal, conversion, theft), and copy/share/lengthen some added strategies.

I personally think it would not only improve the current PvP but also other game modes on the long term (hence this scarce contribution).


The stacking duration would need some fine tailoring, like any other boon, especially the maximum number of times it can occur (as a reminder on how specific it can be : five time-stacks only for Retaliation, while Fury has a time-limit of 3m).

As for converting to what : Taunt obviously (another mechanic that stands on the effect/condition frontier, and yet doesn’t work like its Fear counterpart). which would result in briefly disabled skills instead of shortened recharges.
