Hello everyone i’d like to ask the forums which class they think removes boons the best Necromancer or Mesmer. I’ve been playing around with boon removal with necro and find it to be useful in team fights and 1v1 but i’ve never really played mesmer enough to see how effective they are in boon removals. With necro I am able to constantly remove boons with dagger/focus or axe/focus while having enough sustain with staff/DS. Can mesmers constantly remove boons while at the same time sustain themselves enough or do they only do it per burst (so 3 boons removed from each shatter I think) and which in your opinion does it better?

Both? Shatters, Null Field and Well of Corruption or Corrupt boon all take no skill to land. More rewarding on power necro I guess if you’re good at boon stripping.

Well aside from the personal oppinion that null field isn’t very good compared to well of corruption, I say a shatter mesmer will have the most number of removals. F1-4 can all be used to remove boons when clones are around. As far as I know most if not all removal on necro is more of a corruption effect which adds a different factor though.

I don’t know what’s better but I do think none of them is on the level to compete against the boonspam.

If mesmers weren’t hard countered by thieves and necros weren’t hard countered by the braindead cele builds you would be seeing a lot more of them. I also agree that both of their boon removals are not good enough. Boons should be something that should be used at the right time, not just spammed in a rotation to have it permanently.

Maim shatter + boon remove has been very effective vs ele, and the boon remove isnt necessarily necessary.

Boon remove on Mesmer in a standard power shatter isnt about keeping boons constantly off a target. Rather the boons are stripped in conjunction with a high damage burst, opening the chance for them to go down.

How much boon spam you can create means nothing if they’re all gone in one second and you’re downed in the next.

I don’t think anyone is saying it isnt, the problem for mesmers is theives and unless youve got your own personal escort theif for the mesmer he’s dead.

What? I can’t think of a single celestial build that even soft counters necromancer.

Yeah the only class that I feel can wreak me is warrior. The other cele builds is more of an even fight depends on who is better skill wise.

Yeah after a bit of playing I’m of the opinion in PvP at least, necro is debuff king. While its true some of the cool down might be a bit long but with the amount of boon strip skills necro has you can rotate through them all none stop if u know what your doing even though most fights your not spamming boon strips your reacting to the enemies moves. If you just randomly spam boon strips your going to have a hard time winning any fight (lol talking from experience) and landing focus 5 you have to know when and where to use it because it has a VERY obvious animation and long cast time. I just think necro with both staff and DS can keep the pressure while debuffing (can take out guardians/high boon builds very quickly) and doing good direct damage. I’ve been in situations where the enemy is around 45% health a few slashes from the dagger auto and a hit from the passive trait debuff chill of death downs them instantly. And the AOE from staff and channeling skills dagger 2 and DS 4 are GREAT against stealth classes. DS 4 especially is effective against stealth because unlike Dagger 2 you don’t need to target the opponent to catch them all you have to do is pop DS 4 and be close enough to the target and your tentacles WILL grab them.
