Necromancers.... *sigh*
First off – what’s your weapon set?
Generally you want to dodge into the marks will fully negate them activating on you – dodge their enfeebling blood on Deathshroud, dodge their DS fear if possible. Weakness is your bane so cleanse it ASAP.
Most of all – daze the crap out of them – literally everything they do has a cast time so just daze them while auto attacking. Stealth and heartseeker smartly, don’t just spam.
Play as aggressive as possible and don’t let them breathe…necros have a very hard time killing people that are stuck on them. Letting them breathe would only cost you your life.

I’m using D/D – P/P 10/0/0/30/30 berserkers armor, What about his minions, the damage he dealt to me was mainly from his minions.
He died to an MM, if he’s talking 1v1 then you need to be smart with your CC, because frankly, as an MM, idgaf if you CC me at random, the build is centered around minions.
What you should be doing as a thief against an MM is constantly kiting. Even if you are playing D/P, go out to range, get the minions close, then jump in at the MM, burst him a bit (make sure to avoid the CC), then pop back out. Make sure you don’t let him stack up cripple/chill, don’t let him CC chain you, and watch the Bone Minions; they do pretty massive damage.
The key thing to do is kite always. You have a ton of ways to move around, so use it. If you don’t let the minions have much uptime AAing you, almost all MM builds will fall apart.
If they have marks are not able to be blocked dodging wont work. but the rest of what he said will work. Be up in there face. if you use s/d you can evade a lot of there moves and steal there boons to. would help you lots. AND make sure you don’t just waste the 4 sec fear you steal from them. Use it right as they are about to heal or dead.

Alright, thanks a bunch! So basicly I need to drop my d/d p/p setup because it seems to suck
D/D and P/P doesn’t seem to have much synergy. I’m not a thief, but Pistol main-hand is about bleed stacking, whereas Dagger mainhand is all bout them big backstabs.
ok the only real weak spot of a necro is that they have little to no stability. u cant run in their marks so try to pull em out. other than that their autoattack is too strong and the marks need a longer cooldown imo. necros and warriors are pretty much thr meta right now so try to use more ranged attacks while kiting them.
if u jump them with hearseeker or backstab the chain fears and conditions will get u quickly.

Also, d/d p/p is probably the worst combination of weapon sets you can take into pvp atm. D/d is a one trick poney and p/p, well, it’s just bad.
If you are new to thieves i’d recommend you to use sword/dagger-shortbow

A few things…
D/P, S/D and S/P would all be superior to your setup in that matchup against a condi necro. That said, with a D/D, P/P set up you would need to use mobility to your advantage. 10/0/0/30/30 with zerker ammy is a pretty rough way to go. You are going for a Jack of all trades, master of none build, and it doesn’t work. Thief is better off going all in for direct damage. That said, your best shot at a Necro if you like D/D that much is to use the minions for guaranteed Cloak and Dagger hits and land frequent backstabs on the necro before out ranging them. The minions will follow you when revealed allowing you to stealth at will, run up on the necro, BS and kite. Their heal is on a 30s CD, and if you play extremely efficiently you have a chance to pressure them and then interrupt their heal. It really is a bad matchup for what you are running though. Remember that any condition you put on the necro will get bounced back to you if you don’t dodge Staff 4, Dagger 4 or Plague Signet, and even if you do avoid those if they get the heal off, then you just made it heal for more.
lol.
Firstly, the necro you 1v1d is a minion master right, with like 5 mobs around him? They’re the trashy ones who rely 90% on their AIs. They’re pretty hard to beat with any class 1v1, but dont worry – they dont have a chance in team fights.
Secondly, if you really do want to kill these newby MMs 1v1, try stepping out of aoes (durrr) and kill his minions starting from the golem, worm, shadow fiend (blinds?) etc. I’m no thief, but as a warrior pulling out my LB and aoeing his minions down usually means a win… but its hard.
Thirdly, dd and pp? Maybe enough spam, as 22222,111111 doesnt really work now. Try s/d, so cheap with countless evades.. but it works. Just my 2c
Yeah, against MMs, smartest way to fight them is through kiting, LOS, jumping up and down obstacles since terrain pathing is a huge huge disadvantage to AIs.
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
I smashed a necro in death shroud for 15ishK+ over a period of approx 8-9 seconds. That equaled half their death shroud gone. So basically they had in theory 50,000 HP. 20 up front, another 20 that can quickly replenish under the hood that they can swap to regardless of being stunned, dazed, knockdowned, knock backed..their ain’t nothing you can do to reset the death shroud cool down.
Reroll warrior, or just go s/d shortbow on thief and back cap all game and not enjoy the game.

Yeah, there is no way this is accurate. If you did 15k damage over 8-9 seconds, it means your damage was only 25% of their HP, meaning they had 60k HP in Death Shroud. Even assuming the Necro testing is correct, and HP in DS is 120% of your actual HP, and that they had 30 in SR, their base HP had to have been 38k.
Yes. You have to play warrior to be sexessfull in pvp.
Also spirit ranger. If you want to be serious, play anything which is lame, overpowered and fotm, otherwise you will be a random scrub.Learn the basics of those fotm builds.
After that you can legitimately call yourself master.
You also need to know how to spell to be successful.
Your post is so troll.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
maybe I should reroll healing signet warrior? :P
Why even ask? You know you want to :P
I’m currently playing as thief and I’m new to this proffesion (still learning) so I got this huge roadblock I need to pass, namely necromancers. How do you take a necromancer out as a thief?
Maybe you aren’t supposed to be able to kill everybody.
I need people to explain how my guardian kills… any other class.

If a thief can’t kill every single class it’s utterly useless because it’s made out of glass. Guardian that can’t kill every single class is still highly in demand and used on every team because it can bunker.

Not entirely true. Even really good thieves struggle with some match ups 1v1 but can still be highly effective. Mobility can be the most devastating weapon that a thief has when used correctly. If you catch some high level thieves on stream you will note that they often avoid engaging 1v1’s that would be far too time consuming (win or lose) in order to (for instance) de-cap far and then return quickly to the team fight for a numbers advantage. Damage output is one strong point of thieves, but it isn’t the only one, and strategic movement about the map cannot be executed by any class remotely as well as it can be done by Thief. There are classes that are on even footing in 1v1 combat but all other things being equal the only counter to Thief mobility is Thief mobility.

Yes but I’m afraid thief is about to lose that mobility in the future. Yes the one in clocktower where you can #5 up there. Im usually right with my gut feeling too.
Now let me explain. In the beginning you could #5 to any place you could see. Then they added LOS. Then they made it so that you can’t shadow step to places you can’t walk to.
The clocktower is an exception to that rule. I really think thief mobility will not be all that after it’s “patched”.
So really, only advantage to a thief SHOULD be its ability to kill a target 1v1, and if it can’t, it really is useless. (in the future, when thief mobility is gutted)

You survive by killing the thief. Even bunkers have enough damage to kill a thief.
nerf necros!!!!!!!!!!!!
necros do need a tone down for sure, but it should be done the right way considering that thieves are still as strong as they were since the bginning and the warrior has become a beast

necros are really tough to beat. a ranger is the best counter to a necro. i’m not sure…
i’m running a spirit ranger build.
i can beat them but it will be a really long fight and it’s gonna take a lot of dodging because they can lay a lot of traps (fear and blind).
If your build has not enough toughness, mobility and hp, it will be hard for you to beat them.
most thieves are really squishy so you have to rely on your stealth. kite the flesh golem first and burst damage on the nec after.

I can kill thieves on my war bunker if they don’t run.
nerf necroszzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Hmmm, strange, I play a necro and my biggest counters are thiefs, signet wars and spirit rangers. I don’t play a thief so I can’t say exactly what they are doing, but they are constantly moving in/out of stealth and bursting my in short amount of times (heartseeker, backstab). I can beat kittenty thiefs pretty easily by just cc’ing them, but if they’re any good I can barely land a hit on them (dodge marks, heal in stealth, etc.)
Thoth Divine – Power Necro
I Hope You Die – Burst Berserker
One more thing: I play necro and I am very new to spvp as well. The biggest mistake Thieves do against me in 1v1 situations is they try to keep pressuring me when I am in Deathshroud. Don’t waste your Initiative trying to wear down my life-force, I can regain that stuff quicker than you get your initiative back. Back off and break line of sight or you’ll find yourself fear’d, immobilized and with 3 stacks of torment on you. You don’t want that.
Life force runs out by itself, the necro will pop out of it if he can’t attack you with it. If he does not, wait until he runs out, keep on your toes. Necros are not very mobile.
As soon as the nec leaves DS, it will be on a cooldown of 10 seconds. That’s when I don’t want thieves anywhere near me. If he used his DS skills those will be on an even longer CD. So if he should pop it back on he’s likely unable to fear you just yet.
Last but not least, stealthing won’t save you from condi spam. Necros have a few skills to put down AoE conditions, they will hit you in stealth. If you need to get out and heal up, break line of sight. Always keep moving. We are terrible at mobility.
What else? Don’t try applying conditions to us, we’ll throw those right back in your face.
Your best bet is to keep moving. A good thief can annoy the living piiiiss out of me until I start making mistakes and run out of life force.
Good luck, see you out there
Stack conditions on a necro in DS and dps when he comes out and the head goes “pop” give him 2-3 seconds when he is out and he might be able to heal if not transfer the conditions.
Yes please, so I can get bigger heal.
Aaaaaaan interrupt him when he comes out ^^

Hi, misinformation.
Greater marks does not prevent you from dodge rolling through them and taking no damage/effect, it just means you can’t…. block…. through them.
Evade is not the same as block.

If they manage to die vs a bunker guard it’s not a strong guardian…it’s a braindead thief, and yes i had some killing themselves with retaliation too
