First I’m glad to see necros getting some attention. However, is anyone else thinking it’s a bit ridiculous in PvP with all the necros? I like necros, so this is not a hate thread, but I’m just asking for honest opinions.

I play PvP every day and it seems so different, I had 2 matches today where 6 or more of the 10 players were necros. So there must have been some change to warrant this, because it’s not been this crazy before.

In the past 2 days I have not been able to play a match without 20+ minions and reaper shrouds pulled off at the last minute before the last of their HP vanishes, just to be about full when the shroud ends. Again to all the sensitives here, not hating here, I know that there’s been crazy stuff before which eventually settles out somehow.

the change from season one is diamond skin got nerfed, in season one ele countered necro 100%, as a necro it was literly imposible to kill a decent ele in a 1v1. Now that diamond skin got nerfed there is no heavy counter for necros anymore

With anet buffing reapers over and over and over and over..

Are you really surprised? Low skill celling, high survivability and damage, lotsa powerfull condis and condi transfer + corrupt on ranged auto(lolz). Also, anet killed several other classes so that limits diversity a bit.

Average number of necros in pvp match, for me at least, is 6. Min 3, max 9. And i dont expect it to change any time soon(maybe some more revs will emerge).

This game’s PvP community is made up entirely of lemmings. Forums and metabattle say something is OP = everyone and their mother jumps on it.

Necros are getting stacked so much now because they where a popular class (in NA at least) even when they weren’t strong. Now that they are strong it’s just nuts.

One of the nice things about unranked is since it’s not serious, people don’t feel compelled to stack the FoTM.

There should never ever in any case, ever be a team of 4 stacked classes, yet, this is happening with Necros, and only necros. Never have I seen a team of 4-5 of the same class than Necro.

1) rev and reaper are strongest classes atm. Rev is stronger and too strong since theres way less counter than against necros. A newbie example is that each pro league team stacks 2+ revenants, but none is willing to protect more than 1 reaper.

2) scraper and druid are weaker than above, but way above average. It is their tanking capabilities that makes them almost equally valuable in conquest.

3) any of the above classes can overrun a random pug of random skill levels. It is normal to lose a soloq match against 3 reaper, or scrapper or whatever on enemy team….it is not normal to lose against 3 thieves those classes are just good atm


4) ok general stuff aside lets talk necro
-minions
A popular reaper shout spawns minion that absorb direct dmg from necro. U can ignore the minions they do nothing, and if they dont hit you, they wont absord dmg for their master. Any power or condi build can use this one
Full minions
If its all different types then hes actual minionmaster. Crazy 1v1 but weaker in teamfights. Let him stay afk on node, sneaky decap or outrotate if he moves, or get enough aoes in teamfights to wipe minions. Dont die to explosions
-full heal
Normaly necros cant heal in shroud. A full heal is 99% an ally ele healing them once they exit shroud.
With blighters boon or unholy sanct. U can heal, but it will around 5k max in normal cases. Best counter to just kite the melee shroud still applies

Tldr
Yes necro strong, imo its 2nd overall and just under OP radar. I wouldnt mind shaving down rev scrap reaper and druid. There are counters to stacking necros like any other stack

Besides Thief, but barely, and everything else counters Thief now, so go figure.

Managing a huge health pool doesn’t require the same level of skill. It used to be that necros were weaker at higher skill cap, so their ease of play was countered by the classes weakness. Now, necro is balanced or only slightly OP at high skill cap, so they are OP at low/medium skill cap because they are relatively easy to play and require skill to counter (boon strip, cc chain).

The solution is to lower their innate tankiness and force them to use active defenses like most of the other classes.

Necros don’t have reflects, invulns, vigor, blocks,
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,

It’s a bit too much but everyone knows this.

Did you remember when Anet basically put Burning on autoattack with the old dhumfire? And Necro had his shiny moment in pvp with a lot of necros around.

This is basically dhumfire 3.0 with more corruption, more stability on DS, and more condis.

I’ve mained necro since beta weekend one and in GW1 before that; I’ve been asking for active defenses rather than mindless health pool since day one. Unfortunately it would take a rather large rework. Right now necros are the strongest theyve been since dhuumfire first came out. Only real weaknesses they have is high burst combined with lots of crowd control.

Just fought a match in Stronghold, have not done it since it first came out. Now, I may not fully understand the base archers just outside the gates, but I thought they were able to one-shot players like the base defenders in WvW. Well, the opposing team had 4 necros, at least 2 minion builds and they just camped right outside our starting gate. It was a good tactic. the defenders just aimed at the minions, while the players destroyed our team until we got smart and tried something different. Like I said it was a good tactic, but again I thought it would be impossible with the defenders being designed to prevent just that.

The whole point of them not having active defensives is to give the class a unique playstyle.
Death Shroud is arguably one of the most dynamic defensives in the game. Far more dynamic that the binary evade/blocks that everyone else in the game runs around spamming.

Also meta necro’s aren’t tanky. Tanky implies mitigation. Meta Necros are just a HP sponge. Focus the necro and it dies quickly since it can’t replenish the HP pool as fast as it’s losing it.
There are reasons why tournament teams have never taken more than 1 necro.

The necro nerf is a step in the right direction, it wasn’t slammed into obliveon, just tuned down. Keep up these small patches please. It’s exactly what PVP needs. Everyone plays thieves as well, I bet they’re just popular.

played against 5 necro team yesterday rekt them, played with 4 necros earlier rekt them. bad players will copy paste necro build from metabattle assuming the will facerolled everyone, then they fight against good players or play against players who really played necro and they complain why they keep losing.

Honestly I don’t enjoy playing condi builds, but I am playing every single class. I love to wvw with thief, to pvp with ranger, guardian… I was trying. Trying didn’t helped so had to take my necro to pvp. You want at least to compete go necro. Condi damage is ridiculous. Once we gone kitten necros in second division against properly build team, guardian was melting. Boon corruption and condi transfer and you win. Want to win, go necro, want to play go anything. Thank you Anet.

i think the main problem with reaper is just the chill condition. really.
it is the strongest condition in the game when its used by necros ( even more so than daze) because:
1, 66 % slower movement speed
2, 66 % slower skill recharge rate
3, deals good damage

all this combined in to one condition… really? and they didnt even make it any harder for necros to access chill in any way..

this isnt hate either, i just think it needs a little bit of attention.

chill is only 33 % away from being just like immobilization..
the reduced skill recharge makes it harder for you to cleanse conditions

I like necro’s too, but yeah. Not really a thinking class. Spam conditions, keep an eye on your health, enter shroud when it’s low, once everything is dead, regen health and repeat.

you forgot that minions do no direct damage but traited those 10 minions running around with the reaper Each stack conditions on foes as well as take them from necro
so repears with minion swarm are imune to condi , take 50% less damage and gain increased condition spam as well as target clutter because of a little swarm of rats you can accidentally select over and over

i haven’t come across so many necros yet. Yesterday, the daily was for the necro win, so that may influence.

last season i split my playtime between my necro (main), the dragonhunter, a revenant and an ele. I ended up playing more with the ele, as i could still face anybody, as opossed to the necro, where going 1on1 on an ele was a big no.

But with the nerf to diamond skin, we are no longer hardcountered by a guy sitting there. Also, conditions seem to be the king now (thieves, rangers, necros, eles) and no one deals with conditions as well as a necro does.

So for the moment i am back to the profession i know better. I’d like to better learn revenant, but i feel i can do more as a necro right now.

That, and many necros are really bad, so winning all 1on1s is a big boost to my self-esteem

Thats where chill came in too. typing from mobile sorry every class can spam or time there defensive skill only noobs spam them unnecessarily. Necs dont have that luxury…and is a painful lesson from previous builds. They get 2nd life bar? So what they had to build that up from 0. Every class has that.

necro are freaking easy to play and to learn to play. its high reward and a lot of oh sjit bottoms to help survive longer and therefore make a different. ofc theese players reroll from warior and thief to something that will work. and yeah 3 necro on one point work wonders no matter skill level.

I once mained necromancer back when I still played this game a lot, and I’m kind of sad to see the power creep affect them this much.

The main issue is that necros were buffed back in January without any real nerfs to compensate for it and balance them. They can still be picked off due to poor disengage, but the class has become a kitteneesy since their condition output is so spammable compared to other classes and reaper shroud is just plain amazing compared to death shroud.

If I come back to the game I’ll probably play ele or Druid, but I don’t see season 2 ranked holding my attention for all that long.

And other classes have blocks, stealth, cleanses, boon respam, invunerability, and escapes. Virtues b shatters, tool belt skills, stances, quick heals, shouts auras, seeds…high burst damage heal spam..etc etc..we can discuss game mechanics all day ..

Yeah I liked how he said “force them” like all the serious people in the Necro community haven’t been asking for active defenses for over 3 years. We were told “no, that’s not their vision for Necro.”

Yup seeing lots of necros myself.. Had a match against 5 of them but we won. I used necro last season and did pretty good with him then. I actually used scrapper more this season and only recently switched to necro mainly for profession achievements.
