Need better matchmaking system for SPvP.
They’re working on it. It’s coming.
When?
We do not know.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
matchmaking is a mistake IMO and merely a bandaid for poorly designed infrastructure. Nor is it something the current player base can easily accommodate due to the dwindling numbers unless implemented very carefully (which in itself is a waste of time and energy as it’s effectively doing things the hard way). If anything the first priority should be to separate solo and group ques to ensure that everyone is facing competition of the same kind. the numbers we have currently can support this single division but not much beyond it.
Next, the Glory/Rank rewards for hotjoins need to be cut in half or better – it’s a place to learn or fool around, not a place to farm the inexperienced. There also needs to be a reason to leave hotjoins and take a shot at greater rewards. Copper chests don’t cut it. This would also introduce these players into the actual intended game format and strategies – something that does not happen in hotjoins. This would eventually create a larger mid level talent pool that could then find their way into groups and then higher tiers of game play. A player base that has been substantially depleted.
As well, standard paids need to have their ticket fee reduced substantially. There’s nothing special enough about these to keep the costs so high. Weekly and Monthly tourneys should be the only paid tournaments with any kind of substantive entry fee.
Lastly, the ranked ladder system is a must. This isn’t just for matchups but to give the people at the top or aspiring for it a reason to keep competing against other ranked opponents rather than killing time wiping the floor with newbs in hotjoins waiting for the next paid tourney to pop.
Tl;DR – It’s not about dividing everyone up into their own little brackets. It’s about creating a natural progression to move everyone in the same direction in a fun and competitive environment.
but hey, what do I know…
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
@hackks. well said. i like your design.

I think even more of the casual players will leave if this is implemented and go to WvW.
I solo Q for tournies alot. and its not infrequent that someone on my team notices we are fighitng a premade and decides to afk.
Which is so annoying as it completely messes up the rest of your teammates. HOpefully a matchmaking system would cut down on this. I dont mind fighting tougher opponents, but i hate having teammates who constantly give up/afk or outright quit.

Why are you surprised? I know this kind of giving up is not cool but with current matchmatking (or lack of it) it is often the best thing you can do for your own sanity. I also sometimes queue to solo tournament. 1st round is a lottery, you will get a premade around half the times I would say. Second round you get a premade almost all the times. Getting to 3rd round while joining solo is a rare event to behold.
I often check enemy setup at the start and if they are running some cookie cutter bunker/mesmer squad or similar you already know its a premade which joined frees to farm noobs. Such games usually end with scores 500-50 or something like that. Then you have some kitten from enemy team spam your chat with things like “easy”, “noobs”, “uninstall GW2” etc. To spare yourself some rage best thing to do is to just go afk for 5 minutes.
I am waiting for some sort of matchmaking system becouse as it is now, hotjoin is the most enjoyable mode for me mostly becouse my win ratio oscilates around 50%. This should also be the case in tournament mode (if it would use some sort of ELO system or whatnot) but sadly it is not yet the case.

That’s what i noticed as well. I faced almost only guilds today, most running guardian mesmer 2 ele and necro, playing for 2 shrines. You can’t do anything against that kind of build as a random team, even if you really try hard.
At first, i wasn’t trying a lot neither so we lost 500-50. Then i decided to make some serious tactics, but we lose like 500-320, mostly because they’re just able to stand on shrines longer than we do( because of build and voice communication probably..)
But on the other hand, you can’t really blame guilds for wanting to play, if paids tournaments are empty…
