Need level 22 to access Heart of the mists?
Don’t you just need to be level 2?
You can enter heart of the mist immediately after leaving the starting zones afaik

no…. look
this is so frustrating… as a pvper.,. leveling to 22 takes like alot of time >.>
You can get in by going through the Asuran gates in main cities, you just can’t directly use the UI to teleport there till lvl 22.

Thats genius, he probably also has to talk to the npc to get into the games……
This is honestly sad, for me its even too much that we need to finish the tutorial. Why cant we just go to pvp after we skipped the initial video scene??

Most likely, but still beats leveling 20 levels xD
And agreed that it’s a silly feature.

Because people got tired of people that have a grand total of zero knowledge about the game running around in ranked match and destroying it for everyone?
The fact that it actually is possible to get there if you know how it works is a rather good compromise I would say.

That doesn’t even make sense, the pvp experience cannot be measured by the pve lvl of the character. And if you don’t like less skilled people ruining the match you can always make your own competitive team.
While the PvP experience isn’t the same as PvE, PvE still makes you learn the mechanics of your profession and how the game works as a whole.
Indeed, you can make your own team, but that doesn’t mean the other team would have done the same and it is just as boring to have completely new players in the opposing team seeing as the match will be way too easy and thus boring.

I don’t know how much you can learn from 22 pve lvls considering you have no access to most of the skillls/traits of your profession.
That’s one of the big issues I have with GW2 PvP, why not separate the competitive play from the semi-competitive ?
- Team ranked – can join only with a full party.
- Solo ranked – teams cannot join it, players can play with people of the same skill lvl.

this is exactly what I did earlier…
but i just thought the level requirements for old players
they should add options for veterans and new players…
to pick “SKIP” those tutorial parts…
new accounts should have
“SKIP” button
I think this is a good feature. If you know your way around you can get in. If not it will make you get a little knowledge about your class first.
Secondly…what I don’t understand is, if you are an avid PvPer…do you not have hundreds of Tomes of Knowledge. Lol? This should not be a problem at all for any PvPer.

OMG. I just bought the game for a friend so that we could pvp together.
What happened? Why do we now need to be level 22 to get to pvp or 18 to ZvD? What happened to the cool system of slowly unlocking weapon skills? Second weapon doesn’t unlock at level 7 anymore? This has always been a pvp game for me, its the whole reason I bought it and play it.
I don’t get these changes. It is vitally important to be able to easily swap between classes to improve at pvp, and yet we are forced to go through 22 levels of pve before we can even touch spvp? You know how boring doing those 22 starter levels is going to be for every class? Crazy.
You don’t have to level up.
You can access PvP and WvW from level 2.

I used to be able to do it from the menu, I just read above we can go through portals to get there, its still a weird change that makes no sense to me. Glad you guys told me about how to get in before level 22 though, my heart sank so far when I got in game with my buddy and saw the level 22 requirement.
They hide the GUI option like they hide BLT etc etc so they don’t ‘confuse’ new people with ‘options’
Can keybind the option tho and use it.
Again, you don’t need to level up to 22 for PvP or 18 for WvW.
From the announcement: “For experienced players, most systems are still available as they are today; we will simply introduce these systems more gradually to new players and allow them to learn our game at a reasonable pace. For example, WvW and PvP will be messaged to players via the level-up notification system at levels 18 and 22, and the buttons in the top left will be hidden until then, but experienced users can use the portals in Lion’s Arch or use hot keys to access those game modes immediately. Once the buttons are unlocked for one character on your account, they’ll be visible to all future characters as well.”

The why and how of this has been discussed too many times to count since it’s announcement back in August.
But back on topic. You are not required to level up at all. Just use the portal in LA, or press the hot key to gain access to WvW. (“B” I believe). If you don’t have LA opened yet, you can use B to go to WvW, go through the LA portal, then into the heart of the mists portal. Plus once you unlock the quick access on a character, it becomes unlocked on every character on that account.
It’s the chain I beat you with until you

Cool, I was just looking at my friends computer, like you say I can take my characters straight into spvp even if they are below level 22 with the normal UI icons.
Good to know it becomes unlockable for the account once you unlock it on one character, my mate will be stoked when I tell him.
Found a new guy in Queensdale that was trying to get to pvp, but the buttons don’t seem to work (WvW, PvP Panel, etc), even after binding them…
(edited by Liberis.9573)
Yeah, as said, this is just for new players’ first characters. It’s supposed to make sure they learn a bit first. But that said, the first 22 levels can be, quite honestly, the most boring levels. Introducing a pure PVPer this was is a really bad decision. I almost lost a recruit because of it once. I basically had to level his character for him because the PVE side was just not fun to him at all and being new it wasn’t very fast either.
Chances are if someone came to strictly PVP, they’re not going to learn anything by level 22, not enough to be competitive, more than likely they’ll look for guides or builds instead. Plus there is that short PVP tutorial, and honestly, GW2 could use a re-playable PVP training scenario that goes through each of the maps and explains the core concepts and teaches you to rotate. That way people can learn in a judgement-free environment and in the mean time learn their abilities. Hell maybe even have some player submitted tutorials directly accessible from the game via a UI element.
Either way, though. Not enough is learned and it’s far too different of a game 1-22 and all it really does is hurt new players and can deter them from caring. It just simply needs removed because I feel it does more harm than good at this point.

So I bought new account today, and I want to join heart of the mists so I can start pvping.
But it requires level to enter?

How to get in HoTM as Lv1
- Make new character
- Join on friend that’s in a hotjoin server
- Join WvW map (purchase shoulder/gloves there too cuz you won’t have them as Lv1)
- Use portal or join HoTM from UI
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
I’m not surprised, I mean, you don’t unlock downed skills until somewhere in the 10’s. It’s pretty obvious that they complicated things more than they originally were with their idiotic leveling unlock system.
The game at launch was not so complicated that we couldn’t figure it out, it didn’t treat us like idiots. The current system basically treats us like children who couldn’t handle having options. Do they think the average GW2 player is mentally deficient or something? Are they? I didn’t think they were.

PVE makes u ignore traits , as you dont have them until your practically 80 (most of them you get in the 70’s..). PVE also pigeonholes you into one build and one armor set, as you won’t have enough skill points to unlock more than one build, and won’t be able to afford more than one armor set.
That’s not exactly what I’d consider learning the mechanics of your profession when up to 22 you don’t have 90% of it unlocked.
Much better to allow PVP players to enter at lvl 2, then they can access all their class skills and most builds (some sigils are still locked behind SP and gold even in pvp) and learn to actually play their class.
About the only thing you might learn in pve is to dodge and mash button 1, play zerk as most boss encounters involve either mindless spamming or instant one shot mechanics, until you hit 80 at which point you still have very few skills unlocked or traits due to the ‘wonderful’ NPE change.
the momment i hit lvl2 i can enter it soooo Bug ? gonna get a Screenshot
so i created a new caracter a few mins ago
it 100% works for me the momment i hit lvl2
it seems like you need at least ONE lvl22 char and there on all of the new chars can enter at lvl2 you need atleast 1 lvl22+ char on the account

They revamped it long ago when they release chinese version of the game.
any new account needs to level up to 22

No, he is right you can enter Pvp and WvW directly after the tutorial. If you dont need to have a level 22 character. You only have to ether use the portel in lions arch or bind you pvp/wvw key, since for some dumb reason they have decided to hide the pvp/wvw buttoms on the ui…
But all that was said in this topic already, so please read pdavis.8031’s post…

While they did revamp parts of the game for Chinese release (which we got quite a bit later) it is still fully possible to get into sPvP at lvl 2. No need to wait for lvl 22.
You simply go to your race capital. Take a asura gate to Lions Arch and from there takes an asura gate to Heart of the Mists or any of the WvW maps.
