They want Ele nerfed and mesmer nerfed, but I say, why not nerf this.

Rather than suggesting nerfing a class, plz be more specific on what exactly is causing the problem.

EDIT: In any case, the problem here was the 2 insta-procs of fire and air, and a 4.6k shadow strike seems to much, but what I was saying before, stuff like this isnt post-patch

That’s not true. It’s not common to get HP from 17k to 3k in less than a second.
Thief can usually survive as long as they get just a little bit more time. I went to dueling server a lot and rarely see thief duel ending up being a one-shot fight.

Why don’t you check out how fast the first more or less 12k damage hit and tell me how you dodge it in the middle of an spvp match lol. That tidbit happens in less than half a second and stuns you. The theif would be even worse off it it used a zerker amulet (obviously no light armor class or thief can effectively use it now in spvp without getting insta-killed by a supersize attack)

with a backstab it is possible , it depends on the build you use. if you use a full dps oriented build, high risk high reward you can oneshot … but if you make a mistake … you are dead . I don’t think a build like that is really viable becouse with aoe you would like a lot … but if you want to make it for fun , you can do that. I can tell you for example that i tried a full elixir carrion build on engineer for fun with hgh. When i reached more than 15 might of stack (quite fast) in stealth with elixir U i could nearly oneshot people using all my pistols skin on target in few second. It is fun but it is not really viable …. i die as hell … The fact that you can oneshot does not mean that a build is really viable

Idk. With venom share, That p/d thief could do allot of damage in team fights especially if his weapon swap is SB. (He did not backstab at all)

Ok from that vid I can tell you the following:
1) You are in Hot Join Server, that means, no1 is playing serious and no1 is using a good build (not even you yourself)

I bet the third spetialization line is Critical Strikes.

This means that players is playing a troll build. That build has no survival of any kind and is not at all viable in sPvP. As a troll build it is used to troll other players, and it is good at it. So no nerfs to be addressed cause it is useless.

It is simply too overpowered, it can develop same amount of damage or more as the Troll build from up there and has double or triple more survival.

It is the simplest build to play for Thief, no skill needed due to the stupid RANDOM sigil proc and PASIVE trait (panic strike) proc.

I main thief, I ONLY play thief, and I hate this ridiculous OP d/p build. It makes the game toxic, and it makes all bad thief Players to be carried by this build. I dont want to be carried by my build, and any good Player does not want that neither.

This build and all those with so much RANDOM sigil proc on crit and all those PASIVE play with pasive trait procs and easy conditions on weapon swaps, ARE RUINING THE PVP.

So yes please, NERF RANDOM AND PASIVE play.

Lol you are so wrong. so so wrong. But you did get the p/d right. Regardless, it would be fair if he didn’t open on an unsuspecting player from stealth and it is totally fair for tank players. Thief is rather limited though. They have to go both armor and vitality to survive.

I would say it’s pretty common to see such burst now. Yes, thieves can survive, but the person who recorded it didn’t really react at all and there definitely was a time window where he could have avoided at least some of the damage.

He didn’t even backstabed you and he’s not playing meta build (p/d)
He had quickness due to trait Flanking Strike probably.
All he did was sneak attack + steal + shadow strike.
Meanwhile rune proc he leeched 975 hp with vampirism rune
Rune of air and fire + some condi

What do you expect? it’s thief vs thief squishy vs squishy the whole duel consist of who’ll get out of stealth first cos the one who strike first probably wins
All you had to do was dodge or use blinding powder I mean the real problem isn’t the burst but the lack of counterplay for stealth.

I saw you take every hit. Face a Mesmer or air Ele and it will look like a single instant kill attack.

Also, I am aware that an ele can do similar, however, it doesn’t hit you from stealth and stun you instantly with its elite skill like thief. For clarification, I’m not the one who died to this build in the video.

How do you know you didn’t even target him lol can’t see his boons, besides quickness is good with pistol.
On a sidenote you should have seen or rather heard it coming at 0:02 sound of stealth.

Again how do you target a player that just hit you from stealth?
If the thief had used it right next to him like a backstab, it also 100% cant be dodged. only stun break to dodge shadow shot.
I am again not the person who played this build.

so you likely have a marauder amulet, heard a shadow refuge being dropped by fellow thief, had d/p could have tried to stealth up and relocate to prevent a burst, had no stun breaks slotted, just ran around asking for it and came here to complain. open on an unsuspecting player? you were already in combat and were aware of the danger for sure.

I’m not sure if you realize that you as a thief also have the access to stealth and are capable of doing the same as your opponent.

An old meta thief could easily get a 12k combo in less of a second + procs (against berserker builds), which results in a 15k combo, if you dont avoid the dmg… After, this build isnt going for trickery, which is worts party support (non pvp build) but better doing dmg, so if you cannot react is just a delete as seen. All of this post and pre patch

While I, of-course, am getting lots of hate from the thief supporters or trolls, I really posted this so hopefully the balance team gets wind of it and makes their own call.

Yea true i agree but none of this has anything to do with the actual d/p set. The fire/air sigil burst can be applied to any set on any build on any class and they are as stupid on any other class as they are on thief.

I am scared that anet will read the d/p op posts and nerf the wrong things aka the weapons themselves (that do not need nerfs) rather than the actual culprits that are fire and air.

Panic strike is annoying as hell but every class has passive traits that are powerful, so if anet nerfs thief’s passive annoying trait it is only fair that they do that on every class right? Not gona happen, incendiary powder is still in the game and actually stronger than before, so is reaper’s protection, shared anguish, ect.

Only advice I have for you is l2p though. If anything, thief is underpowered atm. Acro traitline is worthless and so is cs due to gm trait being moved to da. Rip thief. Only one build is viable now and everyone knows what that is.

^ This. I’d like to see them done away with as well. Thief is not the only class that uses them to get big damage spikes. I got nailed for half my health bar from one tick of Doom from a Necromancer because it proced both those sigils and Chill of Death all at once.

I do play a thief and deal with this from other thieves. A lot of times it’s just that, the one who gets the opening strike wins. There are counters though, like Shadowstepping away. Since the thief hit you with that many attacks that fast it’s likely they got the Haste proc from Flanking Strikes. But thief is not the only class that can get high damage now. Warriors can dish it out pretty quick with a GS. I’ve seen Power Necros since the patch capable of doing 16k damage in 2 seconds. You just got outplayed is all.

He was just told by me to record while I was somewhere on the map he didn’t know. Then I stealthed, watched him run around a bit, and hit him with a surprise attack. (Just like a regular spvp match not a duel).

Ugh… This combo is kinda old, and it waste lots of your initiative, not to forget one trick phony that die if your burst failed. I may be wrong but I assume he started his burst with melee range Sneak Attack after entering stealth(which you don’t realize it, zero awareness omg), immediately to Shadow Strike>Shadow Strike>Steal>Shadow Strike>Infil. With the sigils proc the damage is kinda ok, slightly lower than S/D or S/F Ele, hence not to the point it needs to be nerfed.

As soon as I got hit by steal I would have dodged and healed immediately. Daze only lasts for one second now. DPS thieves cant afford to be that slow.

i want bad players to stop acting like they have opinions that matter. stop demanding the rest of the game be brought down to your level of mediocrity and get good. balance is a lot different (and objective) at higher tier level of play. if you’re demanding thief gets nerfed you are objectively ignorant about this game or bad at it, period.

erm yes it is! go to wvw. thieves and other classes can pretty much 1 shot u if u are glass. I have toughness in wvw and thieves used to hit me out of nowhere for easy 9k-11k. if i was glass id be toast!then there is killshotwar and rapidfire rangers….
