Everyone is a bunker build now (except me because I think it’s stupidly lame and refuse to stoop down to that level) and it’s ruining PvP.

If you play Zerk, you can forget killing a bunker. Because you have no defence, they’ll just nuke you while taking NO damage at all. It’s basically godmode.

If you’re stupid enough to play bunker, then you do no damage, but can survive stuff. It’s boring, stupid and ruins PvP.

The amount of games I sit afk in the base because I’m bored of being killed by ppl I cannot even damage below 90% is rediculous. I’m posting this while in a game actually, my 3rd afk match tonight.

Anyone recommend a good afk botting program for me please? This is so boring. :\

Another thought, since I have plenty of afk-time on my hands. If you’re opposition has a bunker build, you should get 3 extra players on your team to ‘balance’ things.

That’s fair because it takes at least 5 people or more to kill just 1 of their team, and if they have more than one, well, forget winning.

Firstly, don’t go afk during a match, that’s not fair to your team.

Are you in a Hot Join server or is this SoloQ/TeamQ?

If you’re in Hot Join, you can easily find another server that doesn’t have someone playing a bunker build.

If you’re doing a ranked match, it’s a matter of rotation. If the bunker is sitting at his/her home node, your team can outnumber the opposing team 4v5 at the mid node and most likely take it giving your team two nodes to one.

Sometimes its about out-thinking your opponent then outright beating them in a fight.

Bunker you mean a build that is very tanky but still does a decent amount of damage? Because pure bunker builds are balanced like bunker guardian = 0 damage.

But bunker DPS is imba : turret engi , MM necro , soldier Axe warrior with Intel sigil etc..

They need to Nerf damage of the builds that can be tank and DPS at the same time.

And you’re right my attitude is terrible, but what must I do? Run in to pvp as a lemming unable to kill the OP’s and just feed them points? No thanks, I’ll rather afk in the base. I do actually try at the start of the game, but if it’s against a team that takes 5 ppl to kill one and they are ahead on points, I just concede to that and wait it out. I find it boring as hell fighting an uphill, futile battle against a better team that has tanky players that cannot be killed.

PvP should be about balace. It should be more like that “Aspect Arena” game where you all have the same stats, the same hp etc but just different skills and using them accordingly. I’m not saying PvP should be as simple/boring as that, but at least remove these tanky ppl by capping the max hp/defense stats.

And after spending 7 games afk tonight, I’m now bored enough to come post here again. =]

Because of the way GW2 is designed, as players get better they start to land a lot more of their damage. A new player might only land 10% or 20% of his potential damage, and even experienced players can’t land all damage because of dodges, blocks, and other defensive abilities.

Even the tankiest build cannot withstand even five seconds of pure damage from a dps-oriented opponent. What you need to do is set up your damage abilities with immobilizes or stuns, and bait out dodges and other defensive cooldowns.

Also, you should consider your build. I see a lot of people in tournaments and hotjoins that just don’t have much damage OR survivability in their builds. Sometimes it’s using zerker amulet but not having any good way to chain damage skills together; sometimes it’s using soldier’s amulet but having no active defense or mobility. Either way, it just hurts to see people playing builds that literally aren’t good at anything.

Have you considered the possibility that you are, in fact, terrible at PvP?

A) Missing all his attacks.
B ) Running a terrible build.

If you’re getting 5v1 and dying, you should blame yourself. not the game

I dare say I have a VERY tough bunker build on my Ranger (regen/Good condi clear/1000+ Toughness with 20K hits/Barkskin/2 stun breaks and near perma Evade lol)…and any more than 3 guys and I start dropping fast….5 enemies, forget it for more than 20-30 seconds. My build DOES provide good burst though timed and I have killed guys with multiples on me but the OP seems a little exaggerated to say the least.

I don’t mind the middle of the road bunkers who can do decent damage and defense. I certainly prefer them to the instagib play where warriors chain cc you to death in a few seconds or thieves stealth kill you even faster. These bunkers actually allow combat to be more interesting and keep glass cannons from being easy mode.

However, completely defensive bunkers who can’t kill or be killed are just as bad as pure glass cannon.

I felt the same way, I would kill the bunker from outside of the node but would lose due to pts. It’s a game of pts, find a way to stand toe to toe in the node to contest or expect to lose via pts even if you eventually kill the bunker.

gw1 team differ to spike team, bunker team, splitter team and balanced team
spike team is a full dmg
bunker team is a full defensive
splitter team got 50% of the team spike and 50% bunker
balanced team got all pg defensive and dps at the same time
gw 2 is the same
there are spike build (zerker), bunker and balanced (dps/ bunker)
just l2p and teamwark

You can’t really compare it. Gw1 relied on a lot of teamwork, because you had dps builds, healers, rupters, etc… Everyone had a role. Here, we have polyvalent builds(i.e turret engi, hambow,..) that can do many roles and work on their own.

Also, the capping system was completly different though. There were more shrines to cap, and it was most on a point = cap it.

On topic, what needs to happen is maybe more explicit counters to such builds. There’s no real way to beat easily a 5 hambow team, from the same level as you.

There is only two bunkers that can actually destroy 5 players without much effort. One being warrior bunker (too much damage given the amount of damage they can soak up) and the other being engineer (too much pressure and or control given the amount of damage they can soak up or mitigate).

BM Ranger is also fairly strong, but it can be countered by applying continuous pressure by one or two foes, and only the most exceptional of ranger players can take on 5 players and win.

Mesmers, almost regardless of build, is very weak to conditions.

Elementalist, Dump some CC on it and watch it crumble. Immobilize and chill will wreck havoc on them, as they lose momentum and attunement recharge skyrockets.

Thieves – same as rangers, apply pressure. they will have to run away and come back later. Their damage is also pretty manageable, albeit in some builds it can be too high (still wondering if Cavaliers thief would be too much to handle if they ran a DD shadowarts + critical strikes build)

And yet all higher skill teams run guardian bunker and nothing else, hmm, maybe it is a skill issue after all?

Also, what the OP seems to be going on about, is that some bunkers are just far too strong in the damage department while still going for maximum defense.

Actually bunker guardians have fairly low survivability compared to pure survivor builds. They go down extremely fast in a 1v2 vs. two roamers, and even 1v1 they will go down without too much trouble.

They’re taken by all the top teams because of their teamfight support and downed-state control. “Holding points” is barely part of the job description.

However, a lot of less-experienced players will do stuff like take soldier’s amulet but without good defensive skills or healing. That means that their builds are literally bad at everything—there’s not much dps and there’s not much survivability, either. It’s no wonder bunkers appear unstoppable against builds like that.
