Without reading anything about professions I picked a Mesmer out the gate and have loved it. I realized that it was a little gimmicky but I die in tPvP to better players so I figured that it wasn’t too OP. I have a several friends that play with me and constantly complain about the Mes profession and have decided to try another character for a while just to see the difference. I typically play casters in all MMOs that I play and was wondering what a good “middle of the road” class would be worth trying.

Well if you like playing caster classes. Then i’d recommend you pick up a Necro.

If you pick up an Ele, your friends will complain even more that your a fotm player.

If you take a Necro and beat them, i guess you prove skills? Try out a hybrid necro or something

I find the “you play fotm class we dont like you” a bit silly :P
If you wanna pick an ele pick an ele if you want a necro go necro..lol its a game!
Unless you want badly skill recognition and you are afraid that if a class is stigmatized as op your winning ,regardless of build you are using, will be degraded
To be honest these days even if you go triple conjure as an ele you are considered op by a considerable amount people

To be honest, I’d stick with a Mesmer. They are so much fun to play and play a big role in tpvp. As mentioned above, you can also try out Necromancer. They are interesting and are also enjoyable. But just stick and practice with a Mesmer and learn. It’s the only way to get better no? Haha.
And, who cares about what your friends say? Use what you want mang.

Mesmers are great but the meta is apparently already shifting. They were rated the second-strongest profession in a poll a little while ago, but the same poll given now might put them third or even fourth. Portal seems less important on Spirit Watch, and ultra-mobile comps can make it unnecessary even on the other maps.

Professions that are fairly effective but very, very rarely considered OP or cheesy would be engi and necro. I also dislike playing professions or builds viewed as OP. I just like the feeling that if I do well, it’s because I played well, not because my profession/build was stronger than my opponent’s.

viable, most guardians might suck but the ones who don’t are amazing and it makes you that much more impressive to play with an underrated class.

Play what you enjoy playing for the simple mechanics of the class, that’s what is important. Try strange builds, bunker theif is amazing and lots of fun.

Definitely, I play a 4-kit engineer and grenades aren’t one of them. The OP mentioned he didn’t like playing a profession that was complained about a lot, so I mentioned the poll because that seemed to be relevant.

Just don’t play a warrior because you’ll be feeding the other team points. Wait until warriors get some changes done that’s if you play the class.

I’m actually playing a warrior lol. well I just mean that I want something that isn’t gimmicky ( which I believe mes to be a bit), and something alil more challenging. I play PvP to challenge myself. Thank you all for the posts
