New PvP content (Nov 1st interview with Colin Johansen)
I’d be fine if all we got over the next 3 months was the option for hotjoin 5v5 spvp.
1. I personally think the custom arenas are their next big must-have for the truly competitive edge. Being able to organize actual practices against comps and really train with a purpose (experimentation, emphasis on practicing strats outside of the public eye, etc.) should take the competitive scene in a good direction. I can appreciate why ladders/rankings are nice, but I can’t remember the last time the competitive community for an e-sport cared about what the ladder rank was. Also, custom arenas should give third-parties a conduit for holding tournaments, which should spice up the scene.
2. Also, I think class bugs at this point are almost the elephant in the room. Each class has threads dedicated to the laundry list of little things that need to be taken care of, and it really hasn’t seemed like progress is being made towards them recently. Of course everything will be triaged, but speaking from a Warrior class perspective, I’m not sure more than one or two have been addressed in weeks. Many aren’t major, but things like the Fast Hands warrior trait has actually gotten me killed sometimes, and becomes slightly more and more frustrating as time passes. It’s unnecessary frustration that just weighs on the player base.
3. New modes would probably do a good job at reinvigorating the structured PvP scene as well, from casual to competitive. Just having something new to do and explore will put fresh blood in the scene, and hopefully more people stick to it since they can have a preferred mode and enjoy the game.
I personally don’t involve myself in sPvP all that much these days, but I am extremely interested in the scene. I’ll be curious to see what they do moving forward.
“He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”
Can’t agree emphatically enough over 1) and 2) The rest I don’t care about order as long as things are streaming in periodically but if I had to pick, I would put ranking as 3) but new modes would be a wonderful breath of fresh air.
But for the love of god 1 and 2 should have been much further along by now so please arenanet, I’m begging you, devote resources to these.
What makes them honestly think players want to play new content in pvp?
I’m willing to bet that this changes nothing.

They are, I assure you. Balance changes need to be properly tested before they can be made live, though. Takes time. No way around it.
Incidentally, I think the order of 1 and 2 are off. Bug fixes need to be the focus first, because they’ll drastically change the way a class plays. Trying top balance classes before they’re working as intended seems like folly to me, since they’ll just have to be rebalanced afterwards.
What makes them honestly think players want to play new content in pvp?
LOL. Probably the huge number of people in this forum saying they want it, to start. Why wouldn’t they want new content?

About the order of 1 and 2, I see your point and generally agree
Given the situation, I put balance first because class and game balance (e.g. 2 second deaths, unkillable bunkers) seems more detrimental to keeping a player base. I think overall more people are put off by these issues compared to bugs, but it’s just my opinion. Plus, some bugs have been around since beta and it often feels like there is no end in sight (although that’s no excuse)

Biggest thing i got from this half hour :
They are in the works of deciding if spvp should give pve xp. If they decided to go through with giving some experience for spvp that would be GREAT, because ive been playing since betas and my highest leveled character is level 22. Its just too grindy doing pve hearts and stuff, all i want to do is do the dungeons and end game stuff.
Master Charles gets it.
New content means nothing at all if the game is just as broken as it was before the content.
What makes them honestly think players want to play new content in pvp?
I’m willing to bet that this changes nothing.
Functionality is most important, but I think a new mode could really help.
Conquest itself is unbalanced depending on class strengths and weaknesses. Any mode that focuses on combat rather than team-based side objectives would go a long way to make issues clear for everyone. 1v1 should be the basis for all class balance, and dueling is somewhat standard. Most modes require teamwork, but some are better for the scientific method than others. A bit of pure combat could do wonders for balancing and the meta when classes find their center.

rankings should be #1 priority….
Arena net said that there wont be tanks, healers and dps. Well, currently in PvP there are Tanks and DPS, either remove tanks or add healers. Id prefer removing but either way works fine. With current Tanks removed, lower burst damage.
