New World Tournament has 150k prize pool!
Meanwhile Dota2 international has 10 millions dollars prize pool…
I Read that it has 50k prize pool
Winner team gets 50k dollars and they split that in 5 people and everyone gets 10k dollars.

Well to be fair that was mostly crowdfunded by the playerbase…

3 tournaments a year, each of them 50k = 150k pool/ year

Exactly. Dota2 has a player/fanbase that’s large and excited about the tournament. The 150k is basically just a cash injection from Anet to generate artificial excitement about an otherwise underwhelming event.

Because Dota and LoL never injected cash to accelerate the competitive scene. I see :p
Also, if you don’t think making $30k from gaming is much, my advice is don’t quit your day job.

lol, this just shows how desperate anet is to get e-sports going… after 2 years they finally give out a cash prize??
Hearthstone, a freaking card game that has barely been out for 1 year has had more cash prize tournaments than gw2..
I will say this, at least anet is at least trying…(to bad they won’t actually update the actual sPvP system, which is why e-sports for gw2 is never going to happen…its such a bad system implemented here and its not competitive or even remotely close to balanced enough for it to be considered e-sports)…
Just look at the twitch viewers when ToL and other pvp tournaments were going on… the numbers were terribly low. It’s got a very limited and small number of fans… even runescapes PvP gets more viewers on twitch than ToL did…

GW2 never really got pushed by anything no advertisment at all, no cash prizes etc.
Anet is now trying to push it for the very first time till it released.
Maybe someday GW2 will get more attention.
/Hope

It’s been anet’s fault from the start lol… all that e-sport blabbering and hype and they did absolutely nothing to back it when GW2 was actually on everyone’s radar about a year and a half ago…. now its kinda too late.. everyones moved on.. you can hope sure, but thats about all anet has at this point… hopefully this event won’t be a flop, i’d love to see it actually succeed, but the realistic side of me says it ain’t happenin

If you have so much against the developers at ArenaNet then please, the door is open. You can leave right here and now, probably would be for the better as you obviously do not enjoy this game and force it upon yourself to play it. In addition to this you spread your negativity around.
Do ArenaNet aspire to become PART of the e-sport scene? Sure they do, most companies does. However reality is this; this is an MMORPG. It is not a MOBA. It is not designed around ONE singular game mode with ONE singular mission. It has NPC’s that is not designed to fill ONE role. It is built on an entirely different basis. Thus the requirement for it to succeed is vastly different from that of a MOBA or a trading card game.
The only other comparable e-sport game there is that can on equal grounds be compared with GW2 is WoW. And i do not think i’ll even grant WoW the title of having had a proper e-sport scene to begin with. Cash prizes, yes, but a proper e-sport, no.

Yes they are trying. Also prize pools are not new to ArenaNet. Guild Wars 1 had one.

Thanks to the feature pack that is upcoming they will get closer to what you want. Today news about standardized models is proof that they are willing to make the changes necessary to make it a valid esport.

I got nothing against the developers, it’s not their fault. My agenda would be against the higher ups/suits at NCsoft/anet, which pretty much control the direction of development. I have nothing against devs, they are just doing their jobs and their hands have been tied by the suits since launch.
I still enjoy this game but to say it couldn’t be better guided is silly. I play it casually when my friends are on for some tPvP.. still working on champ magus title after recently finishing up champ hunter…
E-sports for an MMORPG is tough and kitten near impossible, which is why they should , you know, actually try to focus on making their actual PvP system something people actually want to watch..
WoW couldn’t really do it but GW2 had a chance after WoW’s flop at esport and unfortunately, it really hasn’t worked out it for GW2 either… its just a nature of the beast, MMORPGs are just a hard selling point in e-sports…
If you think my criticisms are negative, so be it. It’s a forum, I can voice my concerns, within my rights.
If you think this game’s pvp system is just fine and dandy, hey, great for you. I just think it could be so much better…
