New map question- is orb a bundle or a buff?
But RtL wil be affected by the 40% movement decrease, right? This seems like the most logical choice, and I’m an ele.

Ride the Lightning does not drop the orb. Attempting to stealth or being combo’d into stealth does not drop the orb. The stealth just fails, with IMMUNE text.

Also, I’m looking forward too this new Map, as it takes a more GuildWars 1 – Style approach to the PvP. Which means you can’t just run “any” Build on the Maps, like it seems to be on Niflhel sometimes. I allready have stuff in mind like ranger or ele as runners, while thiefs and warriors would make excellent chasers.
I’m exited but I just wanna ask;
Is it going to get into Tournaments with release? Or just into Hotjoin? because this Map would unfold exactly zero of it’s tactical potential in Hotjoin, so we could just skip that phase :s
People are only talking about Eles because Eles are forced into bunker specs in the current game due to terribly designed Ele utility skills and traits. I’m quite sure once you bunker the hell out of other classes, the base low armour and HP of Ele will drag it down a few notches as an orb runner.
I feel bad for sword/dagger thiefs. As a orb carrier we will have no use from
1. Tactical Strike,
2. our second weapon skill – Infiltrator’s Strike
3. a lot of traits that suport stealth will be useless: Hidden Killer (from Critical Strikes), Meld with Shadows, Hidden Assassin, Shadow Protector, Shadow’s Embrace, Infusion of Shadow, Cloaked in Shadow, Patience, Shadow’s Rejuvenation (from Shadow Arts).

5. a lot of traits that suport stealing will be useless: Serpent’s Touch, Mug, Improvisation (Deadly Arts), Hidden Thief (Shadow Arts), Kleptomaniac, Thrill of the Crime, Long Reach, Bountiful Theft, and Sleight of Hand (Trickery).
I think we should be able to stealth, and get all benefits from that, but still be visible while carrying the orb. Stealing should be also avaible, but with reduced range. Otherwise we are in no position to even touch the orb.

The thing that isn’t fun, is when the orb carrier is rarely in any real danger of being caught or stopped. When the other team doesn’t even bother trying to chase, because they know there is no chance to catch the carrier.
Like an Elementalist with Ride the Lightning, crazy condition cleanse / healing sustain and high up time on Regen, Protection and Stability + Mist Form.

Does Mesmer portal work?
So basically now eles will play “pass the ball”.
Take buff use ride the lightning, use mistform then drop the orb for the next ele to ride the lightning and mistform and so on.
A lot of complaints in this thread seem to be that some classes will be better flag carriers than others. But so what? That isn’t the only role that is going to be needed, like Guardians Line of Warding I expect will be extremely useful to slow a pursuing group down (just one example).
Not sure if this was answered but will Mesmer veil cause the orb to be dropped? I presume so but it could potentially lead to some kind of griefing.

If it behaves like other stealth, you simply won’t be stealthier when passing through the veil. As for the RtL complaints, I’m pretty sure it’ll be affected by the 40% movespeed debuff, just like HS, for example. If, somehow, it isn’t, then this universe really doesn’t make sense anymore.

Since I still occasionally take damage while rtl down the slope at chieftain base on forest I’m guessing using rtl down those stairs will result in a dead ele.
Will Minor and Major traits such as Ele’s Zephyr’s Speed and One with Air respectively, and those from other professions, still take effect? Or will they be nullified upon picking up the Orb? Thanks.

I’ve stated this before but some people just can’t get enough of RTL bashing. It’s not like you can actually RTL away anywhere anytime. One wrong move, a stone in the way, a slightly uneven terrain, a cliff, a staircase, all of which seems to be heavily abundant in the map preview and you’re basically a sitting ball of flashy VULNERABLE light for 3 seconds or just RTL into your death.
There must be a logical reason behind allowing RTL to be usable when carrying the orb. Can we not wait until the map goes live before we go cry OP?

Thiefs will make there money killing other team orb runners. Defending there orb runner. Or backcapping enemy while fight over orb taking place.
I doubt seriously thiefs will be viable orb runners.
A-net made it very clear that thieves will be supporting the carrier or hunting down the enemy carrier.
Every profession can use they’re skills without losing the orb except the thief so… it cant be clearer than that!
Imo this new map will be like this:
1 – Enter map
2- Pop up the score / team UI
a) Our team has at least 1 ranger or ele, stay and fight!
b) Our team has no ranger nor ele -> leave map and enter a different one.
UNLESS something is done about rangers and eles on the same patch the map comes out.
aw well nothing we can do just sit back and wait for it.
Edit. Im ok with thieves be terrible orb carriers, as a thief, the last thing i wont is to be focused on anyway.

Lol, thief/shatter mesmer will be great for orb carrier killing. And what’s up with ranger? All they can do is spam traps with a very obvious animation..
^sword 2 mobility is imo at rtl level due to the low cd and max range you can achieve while you also get an evade which is amazing since you d be carrying the orb.
If you play ranger and still havent figured it out learn to be mobile :P
I for one love this new idea!
It’s true that some classes will be a lot better in carrying the orb then others, but then again, other classes will be a lot better at killing the orb carrier. This will sure give a new dimension to the PvP experience and we’ll just have to see how it works out.

I’m looking forward to playing my tanky engi spec as an orb runner. It probably won’t be as good as an ele, though.
We dont know yet, being perma slowed might really effect the ele.
I expect eles will still rule this map, but i woudlnt be shocked if they didnt.
Everyone is focusing on running the orb… You know that is the secondary objective right?… Then everyone doesn’t need to be good at it. If your class isn’t “built” for running the orb you still have to hold the conquest objectives. Nothing has changed go kill people inside the circles.

It’s the new concept on the map, and we already discuss the conquest part in other threads. It’s true we will have the same set of rules in dealing without the orb running, but that doesn’t change the significance of having balanced flag running. Not that I think it’ll be that terribly unbalanced as is, even if Ride the Lightning and Ele sustain makes them the best at it.

i play a ranger, don’t know much about this game mode (is it playable yet?) but from what i’ve read, ranger may be op :/
- swiftness doesn’t work, so SoW (+25% movement speed) will be amazing
- we have 2x 6 second invulnerabilities – 12 seconds total
- a ~25 second stability
- big leap on GS, decent evade + leap on 1h sword
or do some of these things not work?
I’d suggest a renaming of this map:
Instead of Spirit Watch, name it ‘Elemental Watch’.
If you know apriori that a profession was going to dominate sPvP, you certainly wouldn’t ship the game. Why would you do differently for a new secondary objective?

They’ve probably been developing this map for several months, which means they’ve been working on it since the time everyone thought eles were free kills.

Wow, seriously? Think about how we could use Nemisis Fear Build to send the Orb Carrier in the other direction for 7 seconds min. ? And we are the best against a bunker ele (which will be the orb carriers), imo…

Swiftness does not work and necro has the most slows. The map has potential to make certain under used necro skills viable granted they function correctly (spectral grasp). I can picture a fear/chill/ cripple meta shift towards counter carrier necros. But nothing is certain until we play the map. People pay too little attention to the info we are given. The carrier has automatic 40% slower base run speed meaning those average run speed plus swiftness will be moving 65% faster than the carrier. Even with RTL low mobility classes will be able to reach high mobility carriers granted they play smart.

Forget slows; countering carriers is going to be all about blowout and fears. Did you guys see all those bridges in the map?

I am curious if we sometime will have some PvP map what will be actualy about fighting, where runers dont win. Where I get highest score because I kill most players, not just run most captured points. PvP mean player vs player. Devs in Anet forgot that and gives us marathon instead.

While carrying the orb, the orb is considered a buff. You can indeed use invulnerability skills while carrying it (Mist Form, Endure Pain, Elixir S, ect.)
Shadowsteps are considered teleports. Infilitrator’s Arrow, Lightning Flash and the like will all cause you to drop the orb.
How about Jump Shot, Overcharged Shot, Acid Bomb, Rush, Swoop and similar skills ?
Hmm i think Necro will be useful on this map vs orb carryiers , corupting boons into conditions + a lot of skills to slow down the enemy , and condiotions will be great there , but we will see.
Sounds like sword/greatsword Ranger and sword/greatsword Warrior are going to be the best carriers, since they both have the best travel skills, AoE fear, and “Protect Me”/Endure Pain. It will be interesting to see.

Do developers realize that RTL has 1500 range instead of 1200 range as tooltip says?
From what I have seen the patch didn’t change that.
It works in Rampage with a warrior. You get double hp, and 20 seconds of stability. If you spec tanky you are super hard to bring down. Plus the movement skills a warrior can have is insane.
